In year 1564, Sir Philip arrives as pupils at
shrewsbury school UK Sidney (1554-1586) was a
true ‘Renaissance man’ soldier, statesman, poet,
and diplomat, he was knighted on 1583.

Charles Darwin
Naturalist,revolutionary & Father of Evolution
In year 1820, Charles Darwin arrives as pupils. He
defined evolution as "descent with modification,"
the idea that species change over time, give rise to
new species and share a common ancestor.

3. Moser Library
It was originally opened in 1916. The Library
provides access to approximately 40,000 print
books, 500 e-books, a selection of print, online
magazines and newspapers. The first edition
copies of Darwin’s 'On the Origin of the Species'
to 19th Century watercolours were left to the
Library by Edward Moser.
Cross-Country Running
The origins of organised cross-country running at
the School can be traced back to 1819.
The RSSH is historic at Shrewsbury School and
has the distinction of being the oldest
cross-country club in the world.
4. First School Rowing Regatta
The first School Rowing Regatta was held in
1839 which led to the formation of the Royal
Shrewsbury School Boat Club (RSSBC) in 1866.
Independent School of The Year
It was awarded the title of Independent School of
the Year in 2020 and achieved finalist status in
2023, along with numerous other accolades.
