This document discusses the history and components of virtual reality systems. It begins by defining virtual reality as an artificial 3D environment created by computer hardware and software that users can interact with and appears real. The document then summarizes the history of virtual reality from its origins in the 1980s to current applications. It describes the key components of virtual reality systems including head mounted displays, audio units, gloves, and reality engines. It also discusses types of virtual reality systems from non-immersive to fully immersive and how immersion is experienced by users. The document concludes by outlining advantages and disadvantages of virtual reality systems.
Christian Jacquemin presented research projects at LIMSI-CNRS involving telepresence, tangible interfaces, and emotions. LIMSI has 120 permanent staff working on topics like language processing, multimodal perception and interaction, and augmented and virtual reality. Some projects presented include augmented virtuality artworks, augmented reality for performing arts and open air installations, audio augmented reality, mobile augmented reality, and physical world augmentation using multiple physical layers.
Sketching user experiences: Getting the design right and the right designMerve Aydın
Stories and sketches are effective ways to explore interaction design concepts quickly and inexpensively. Sketches do not require advanced drawing skills and can take many forms, including storyboards, comic strips, photographs with annotations, and simple videos. They allow designers to rapidly iterate and test multiple alternatives early in the design process. While not as polished as finished designs, sketches are valuable for capturing dynamics, movement, and the overall user experience in a visual format that can be quickly understood and shared.
The document provides an overview of the features and capabilities of CryENGINE 2, an advanced 3D game engine. It describes 19 sections covering technologies such as real-time rendering, lighting, shadows, fog, terrain and character animation systems. Key features include dynamic environments, destruction, vehicles, artificial intelligence, and support for multi-platform development.
Using a hacked Kinect, MAX/MSP, and some Adobe AfterEffects animating skills, this ostensible painting subtly (and not so subtly) animates in response to a person’s presence and body movement. The unsuspecting person may or may not notice that they are in fact bringing the painting to life with their movements. It is only upon their further investigation, by producing other movements that they will begin to see that they are in fact 'co-authoring’ the liveliness of the painting.
The co-creation of an individual’s imagination with the Gainsborough painting turns what is personal, private & unseen experience to a shared, public, and visible one. It demonstrates the kind of imaginative ideas that can be produced upon provoking an individual’s attention. .
The document provides specifications for the LIQ-60 line monitoring system from GridSense, which consists of Conductor Mounted Sensors (CMS), data collators (LIQ-Gateways), and analysis software. The LIQ-60 CMS monitors faults, load changes, temperature and other data on overhead power lines between 5-138kV. It detects faults from 5-25,000A, logs load and temperature data, and stores fault waveforms and timestamps. The LIQ-Gateway collects data from multiple CMS units and transmits it via cellular or radio to utility control rooms using various communication protocols.

This document discusses leveraging systems for change using Donella Meadows' 12 leverage points for systems. It summarizes how two of these leverage points, delays and reinforcing feedback loops, apply to the ITSI-SU project. Delays that are too short or long can undermine the system. The project experiences delays at the classroom and regional levels. Reinforcing feedback loops in the teacher online community can increase participation and implementation quality over time. Information flows, like about technical issues, are also important to address. Changing fundamental paradigms may be difficult to achieve but could enable deep change.
Stakeholders are diverse people with an interest in a common issue or topic. There are currently barriers to communication between stakeholders in a community, such as a lack of a centralized system to display public planning events, connect stakeholders, and facilitate information sharing based on their priorities and interests. The proposed Social Objects Stakeholder Card aims to overcome these barriers by providing a modern digital roledex function, allowing stakeholders to publicly display their interests, filter and share information, and schedule availability - with the goal of increasing positive and diverse stakeholder partnerships for community development projects.

HDI 2013 - Who's Coaching the Coaches? article Rebecca Gibson
1. The document discusses evaluating and improving the effectiveness of coaching interactions between supervisors and agents in contact centers.
2. It recommends establishing standards for coaching performance, requiring coaches to track coaching activities and results, and asking agents to provide feedback on coaching.
3. Measuring coaching quality and quantity, coaching skills, and tying coaching to performance metrics will provide insights to enhance coaching effectiveness.
The document discusses traditional quality assurance measurements used in contact centers and why they are ineffective. It outlines more strategic and tactical measurements that provide greater business value by focusing on performance improvement, cultural impact, and business objectives. These include metrics like customer satisfaction, sales conversion rates, errors and rework, and employee satisfaction. The document provides examples of how a medical supplies company could correlate quality ratings with agent productivity and financial performance to improve customer experience and business outcomes.

Introduction to Animation and its Thought ProcessSonia Guerra
This document provides an introduction to animation, including its definition, thought processes, types, production process, and software/tools used. Animation is defined as the art of movements that are drawn between each frame, rather than what exists in each frame. The key types discussed are 2D, 3D, stop motion, VFX, and experimental animation. The production process involves pre-production, production, and post-production stages. Creative and critical thinking are essential thought processes for animators.
This document introduces the Kinect gestural interface device. It discusses the speaker's background and experience with Kinect. It outlines the plan to explain what the Kinect is, provide a simple example interface, and discuss the ingredients of joint position tracking and 3D math. Examples of gestural interfaces are shown, including one to control a program using beard movements. The document demonstrates capturing joint position data and using it to control an image. It discusses what makes a good gestural interface and shows an example medical application. It provides resources for learning more and announces an upcoming book on computer vision with Kinect.
The document discusses Autography, a playful persuasive mobile application that allows people to draw digital graffiti at locations in Florence, Italy. It aims to influence behavior and encourage participation in a positive way. There was initially an idea for an app to remove real graffiti, but the creators realized graffiti can be a form of positive expression. So they developed Autography to make creating graffiti easier digitally. It has been successful, with about 100 drawings made per day. The document then discusses principles of applied games and the process for creating them to address complex topics.
We review Autography design as an exemplary case of persuasive application. We immerse it in the context of applied and persuasive games built around gameful mechanics and interactive learning. We then contrast it with superficial gamification efforts. We propose some guidelines for an effective process of cooperative design and process for these complex media productions.
Suzi's indie game project focuses on creating an interactive demo that acts as a trailer for a game inspired by input-output cinema. The demo will be created using Game Maker and feature exploration of a fantastical tree world with narrative elements rather than traditional gameplay. Inspiration comes from artists like Brian Froud and games like Sword & Sorcery EP that emphasize visuals, sound, and story over mechanics.
Simple yet extremely important rules when designing and creating any content for virtual reality which should yield in high immersive experiences. Workflow setups between multiple modelling tools and substance painter using PBR materials exporting into game engine Unity 3D.

10. Actualizing the Individual Experience
How to demonstrate the different experiences
and perceptions we all have with the same
image due to the differences in our thinking?
11. Using Transitive Law
If A + B = C, then A = C
Unconscious Thinking + Unresponsive Image = Experience, Thinking = Experience
Unconscious Actions + Responsive Image = Experience, Movement = Experience
Actions are a manifestation of our thinking.
Actions influence image
Image becomes an output of our thinking
