1. Short paper #2
Blood Red Road
Throughout this discussion of the young adult novel, Red Road Blood, we have addressed such
issues as dystopian women, sisterhood and brotherhood, gender role stereotypes, queer
theory, patriarchy, and intersectionality.
In this short paper, (2 and ½ to 3 pages minimum, worth 30 points) you will choose at least one
of these areas to cover and analyze, using both quotes from the critical essays and/or chapters
from Tyson’s book and/or our own definitions of sisterhood and brotherhood.
Summarize the book briefly in the intro and include what you are planning to focus on in your
thesis.
I would suggest that you use different topics in several paragraphs but it is certainly possible to
write your whole paper on sisterhoods, queer theory, intersectionality or use a combination of
above topics.
You need to use quotes in this essay, both from critical essays and Blood Red Road.
Your body paragraphs, should include points from the articles, powerpoints, and disccussions of
criticismfrom articles we have gone through. Make sure you use quotes that you can support
or refute with analysis of specific languagefrom Blood Red Road. You should be
using and analyzing specific quotesfromthe bookao that you can analyzehow
it supports thepoint you are making. Do not leave the analysisup to thereader.
Makes sure the quotes giveyou something to analyze/interpret that isnot
extremely obviousin and of itself and then explain by showing meaning that is
not obvious. Do not assume I will figureit out for myself.
Use both articles from the Course Reader and/or powerpoint presentations. I also want you to
make certain that you cite page numbers of quotes from Blood Red Road when you analyze
them. Include a Works Cited page.
All of the articles are available in your Course Reader or in the powerpoints listed under
Presentations on the website or as handouts. Use page numbers from the pages listed on the
handouts, not the pages in the course reader. If you are quoting from powerpoints, no page
numbers are necessary
