- 2. Shirin Neshat is an Iranian visual artist who lives in New York City. She is known primarily for her work in film, video and photography. Neshat left Iran to study art in Los Angeles at about the time that the Iranian Revolution occurred. About a year after the revolution, Neshat moved to the San Francisco Bay area and began studying at Dominican College. Eventually, she enrolled in UC Berkeley and completed her BA, MA and MFA.

CONTROVERSY : • Shirin was threatened with her life by the Iranian government for representing women in Iran in a wrong way. • Shirin was ordered further 1 decade of exile from Iran. • Later on, due to diplomatic talks and foreign embassy meetings, Shirin was allowed to return to her country and reunite with her family. • In India, many protests happened due to the Farsi poetry used in the photographs. • The photo exhibition was banned in India due to these protests.
