Engineering and management education in India is experiencing significant changes, with a rise in institutions focusing on high-quality training and infrastructure. 1. Shaping Your Future
Engineering and Management are one of most popular choices for students in India. It is very safe to say
that our society has some kind of obsession with degrees in Engineering and an MBA. And this has
created a huge market for institutes to pop-up at every nook and corner.
However, there are some amazing institutions also in the country which do an absolutely great job of
teaching and training students in the field of engineering and management. And these institutes are
seriously investing tons of money on building a world-class infrastructure; bring together talented and
distinguished faculty members and last but by no means least – designing a research-led, cutting-edge
curriculum in line with the requirement of the industries in India. PM Narendra Modi took the initiative to
boost India’s manufacturing sector in order to create more and more jobs for millions of graduates who
are graduating every year from thousands of colleges across the country. His “Make in India” campaign
has further underlined the importance of quality graduates that India now very seriously needs to
produce. Earlier, it has been reported by several leading newspapers that the quality of students coming
out from the engineering colleges are not able to do even simple mathematical calculations, leave alone
the stream specific tasks. Another important shortcoming of most of the engineering and management
graduates are that since they aren’t industry ready obviously, the companies are spending sky-rocketing
amounts on training of new joiners. Literally, things are being taught all over again. Scarcity of jobs in
streams such as chemical engineering, manufacturing engineering and pharmaceuticals coupled with
lack of interests of students in these have pulled them towards the glitter of swanky software giants in
India. Hence, non-IT students are joining technology firms after getting diploma equivalent of training on
leading technologies. Quite a lot of times, a student holding MBA isn’t well educated enough to create
value in the organization. So, it can be safely inferred that studying at top management colleges &

My recent visit to Nashik for a talk helped me in changing my perspective. Nashik can very well boast
best engineering colleges and top management colleges. With absolutely modern, eco-friendly
buildings sprawling over 200+ acres of lush green campus with fast Wi-Fi, ultra modern lecture theaters,
laboratories and well furnished hi-tech residences for boys and girls took me on a sci-fi ride. The
cafeteria with sumptuous meals, faculties with master and doctorate degrees, heavy focus on
industry-institute interactions, tons of guest lectures are some of the goodies being offered. This is
essentially changing the way engineering and management education has always been thought. The
focus on learning by doing, learning from peers as well as from professors obviously is the prime area.
Apart from this, huge focus on team-work, leading the team understanding team dynamics is being done
to make the graduates industry ready. Industry heavy weights sit with curriculum designers to provide
their inputs on knowledge and skills required for tomorrow.
It can be inferred with a lot of confidence that paradigm shift in technical and managerial education
design and delivery has begun and while no one is watching and realizing, a power, dynamic India is
emerging which will be ready with appropriate knowledge and skills to‘re-engineer’ the 21
st
century which
belongs to Asia in which India will be playing a major role.
