1) The major problem facing Muslims is the growing misperception in the West that Islam is inherently linked to extremism, intolerance, and violence. This misperception developed historically over decades. 2) The most difficult challenge is influencing the premises that led to this misperception and bridging the gap between those who call for "freedom and democracy" and Muslims who call for justice. 3) Muslims in America should shape their future through integration - bringing the best of Islamic heritage to reinforce American values of justice, liberty, and the spiritual nature of humanity. This can be done through local engagement, founding think tanks, lobbying, and academic work.
