Community Repositories: Why You Need One for Your Open Source ProjectAll Things Open
Presented by: Kiran Rin' Oliver
Presented at the All Things Open 2021

Abstract: A well designed, clearly laid out community repository is a strong addition to any open source project's GitHub organization. Having a community repository means that not only experienced project contributors, but those new to your community can quickly get up-to-speed. Designing a community repository takes time, investment, and a commitment to improving documentation and enabling developers.
In this talk we will learn more about why you should consider having a community repository in your OSS project's GitHub organization.
Attendees will learn how to create a README that lays out best practices for new contributors, establishes their code of conduct front-and-center, learn the differences between a contributor guide and a community repository, and will leave with actionable takeaways to start their own community.
Title: Public Money? Public Code!
Why does programmed software with taxpayers’ money is not released as a Free Software? We want legislation requiring that publicly financed software developed for public sector must be made publicly available under a Free and Open Source Software licence.
If it is public money, it should be public code as well. Code paid by all people should be available to all people!
This talk will provide a brief overview of the Free Software Foundation Europe’s (FSFE) previous and ongoing activities to foster software freedom in Europe, on the levels of politics, legal work with enterprises, and general public awareness.
There is no open source business model - only people selling complementary goods, and using an open source project as a development and distribution model.
Have you ever asked yourself how can you leverage open source for selling your products or services, attracting talent and innovating? In the first part of this lecture I’ll give a historical context about how open source has transformed the Software industry and changed the way we develop, collaborate, communicate, organize and think about business values. In the second part I will talk about open source opportunities, challenges and what it means to successfully plan and implement an open source project from the practical side. I will also share my own Open Source management experience at Intuit.
Sometimes dominant design is established by small and new ventures, rather than by large corporations, as we would expect. This is the case of Arduino, an open source platform for building and prototyping electronics projects, that imposed itself as dominant design in the fast-growing field of the digital makers. In our presentation, we use Arduino as an exemplar case to challenge some conventional wisdoms and traditional ways of thinking in strategic management. Our findings show that organization design and organizational processes shape the new ventures strategy (rather than viceversa), and play a critical role in setting a new dominant design.

[Workshop] Building an Integration Agile Digital Enterprise with Open Source ...WSO2
Today, transforming a conventional business into a digital one is essential to increase revenue and productivity. Integrating heterogeneous systems and building an ecosystem with integrated components is a fundamental requirement for this.
Most modern systems support integration with other systems through APIs that are exposed to well-known protocols and standards. However, it is hard to expect all existing systems of an organization to be capable of integrating with other systems. Certain legacy systems will only be replaced a few years down the line.
Therefore, the challenge is to drive all these existing systems towards integration. In this half-day workshop, we will discuss how you can use the lean, enterprise-ready, and high-performing WSO2 Integration platform to solve integration and innovation challenges that organizations face when performing brownfield integration.
Discussion topics include:
- The benefits of using open source technologies
- Managing an API lifecycle with open source technologies
- Upleveling brownfield integration with open source technologies
- Customer identity and access management with open source technologies

The open source movement has rapidly become the way code is being developed for today’s smart and agile businesses. This webinar will cover how an “open mainframe” is the perfect solution for deploying open source on an enterprise computing platform. You will learn how the open source community has gathered around the mainframe platform and how Open Mainframe Project is the starting point for open development.
On April 17 at 8 am PST, Open Mainframe Project hosted a webinar titled “Open Source on the Modern Mainframe.“Join this roundtable session to learn the latest approaches to integrating the mainframe into modern devops tooling and practices to accelerate delivery and drive true cross-platform applications. Open Mainframe Project leaders from IBM, SUSE, VCU, Velocity Software and Western & Southern Financial Group will share insight and roadmaps about several open source projects under the OMP umbrella that can help with your devops needs.
Open Mainframe Project leaders from IBM, SUSE, VCU, Velocity Software and Western & Southern Financial Group will share insight and roadmaps about several open source projects under the OMP umbrella, including Ambitus, Feilong, Polycephaly, Zowe and Zorow, that can help with your devops needs.
I gave this talk on IEEE Day (October 7, 2014). I covered Introduction to Open Source, Various Projects and Products in Open Source, What students can get from Open Source and various different aspects of Open Source during this talk.

Open Source & What It Means For Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)Evernym
Open source and open standards have been two pillars of self-sovereign identity since the beginning. Only by breaking down barriers to both development and production can we ensure that SSI works for everyone, everywhere.
Openness is also at the core of how Evernym operates, and our motivation for launching Sovrin, subsequently donating Hyperledger Indy to the world, and more recently, open-sourcing our own products.
In this webinar, we covered:
- The importance of open source software, and why it's needed for self-sovereign identity
- The open source tools available today, from Hyperledger Indy and Aries to Evernym's Verity
- What Evernym's open-sourcing of Verity means for developers
- Getting started with either open source or our free Sandbox plan

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
