Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was the sixth president of Iran from 2005 to 2013. He was born in 1956 in Iran and studied civil engineering, receiving his PhD from the Iran University of Science and Technology. He held various government posts and became mayor of Tehran in 2003 before being elected president in 2005. As president, he implemented conservative social policies and increased government spending while supporting Iran's nuclear program. After leaving office, he now teaches at the University of Science and Technology and takes public transportation to work.
