The document discusses the growing issue of childhood obesity around the world. Some key points:
- 42 million children under 5 and 1 billion adults worldwide are overweight or obese.
- Obesity rates have doubled in many countries and are caused by a lack of exercise and high calorie diets.
- Childhood obesity is a concern as 80% of obese children will be obese as adults, increasing their risk for health issues like diabetes and heart disease. Prevention through healthy eating and exercise is important to address this epidemic and reduce healthcare costs.

What Is the Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic?
The Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic is a new one of a kind weight loss “tonic” supplement. It helps men and women burn fat fast using a simple 20-second Japanese tonic.
Don't drink sugar calories. ...
Eat nuts. ...
Avoid processed junk food (eat real food instead) ...
Don't fear coffee. ...
Eat fatty fish. ...
Get enough sleep. ...
Take care of your gut health with probiotics and fiber. ...
Drink some water, especially before meals.
One generation ago, people would not dream of picking up whatever
packet of junk food they could get at first in order to feed their faces.
Today, we do that so very casually. “I am hungry” usually means “I
want a hamburger or a frankfurter, probably with chips on the side
and one cola.” “Let‟s go out and party” means “Let‟s go out and booze
till we can‟t stand up on our own and intersperse the drinks with as
much synthetic-laden wannabe Chinese food that we can get.” And, “I
am on a diet” means “I am on a chemically driven pill which will kill my
hunger and deprive my body of vitamins.”
Neil Dembeck uses innovative methods to help encourage children to actively engage with sports and exercise, and most importantly making it fun for them. The trick is to help them enjoy the activities which will in turn, increase their mental well being and long term happiness.
Eating a healthy diet is not about strict limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Rather, it’s about feeling great, having more energy, improving your health, and boosting your mood.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the structure and function of taste buds.
Describe the relationship between the taste threshold and taste index of common substances.
Explain the chemical basis and signal transduction of taste perception for each type of primary taste sensation.
Recognize different abnormalities of taste perception and their causes.
Key Topics:
Significance of Taste Sensation:
Differentiation between pleasant and harmful food
Influence on behavior
Selection of food based on metabolic needs
Receptors of Taste:
Taste buds on the tongue
Influence of sense of smell, texture of food, and pain stimulation (e.g., by pepper)
Primary and Secondary Taste Sensations:
Primary taste sensations: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Umami
Chemical basis and signal transduction mechanisms for each taste
Taste Threshold and Index:
Taste threshold values for Sweet (sucrose), Salty (NaCl), Sour (HCl), and Bitter (Quinine)
Taste index relationship: Inversely proportional to taste threshold
Taste Blindness:
Inability to taste certain substances, particularly thiourea compounds
Example: Phenylthiocarbamide
Structure and Function of Taste Buds:

Editor's Notes
I wanted to start out with children but also tell how it affects adults later on in life.
Also in my application I wanted to do something physical with baseball. So I brought baseball into my project which is a passion in my life.
-Obesity has been blown way out proportion over America. -In 1990 the highest obesity rate in any state was 14% or less.
- Just 18 years later in 2008 the rate of Obesity ranged from 32.8% to 19.5%. The lowest obesity rate in 2008 was Colorado at 19.5% which was more than 5% more than any state in 1990.
The number of overweight children under the age of 5 in the world for 2010 is over 42 million. When children become so overweight at a young age, it is so much more likely they will not be able to lose the weight,In the world there are over 1 billion over weight adults and at least 300 million are obese.
Obesity is a disease of excess body fat and having a BMI over 30.A person is also considered overweight if their BMI or Body Mass Index is between 25 and 30.Body Mass Index is not always accurate because it is measured by height and weight. A person could be muscular and could be calculated by the BMI to be overweight or even Obese.- The ages that childhood obesity is classified to are ages 2 to 19.
Over the past 30 years obesity rates in children have tripled. 1 in 3 children now are overweight or obese. These statistics are different age groups of children in America from 1980 and 2007, showing the obesity rates. In 1980 5% of children ages 2 to 5 were obese, compared to 2007 2 to 5 year olds had an obesity rate of 12.4%. In 1980 6.5% of children ages 6 to 11 were obese. In 2007 the same age group had an obesity rate 17%.In 1980 5% of adolescents ages 12 to 17 were obese. In 2007 the age group 12 to 17 had an obesity rate of 17.6%These statistics show drastic changes in just a 17 year span.
Obesity has doubled in adults since 1980 and also children have nearly tripled their obesity rates from 1980 as well. This evidence may suggest that obesity is hereditary. - There are few cases where obesity is Hereditary, but parents do have influence on what their kids eat. Mainly becoming overweight comes from lack of exercise and a high calorie intake. -The typical average American spends 8 hours in front of some type of screen everyday.including cell phones, tv, computers and electronics of that nature
This May Be The First Generation to Not Outlive Their Parents. The past generations have been out living the previous ones because of medical research and technology. And now that people are becoming so overweight, it so dangerous to their health creating many medical problems.
Big America. Everything in America is bigger. We have the biggest buildings.
The biggest cars.
The biggest houses.
The biggest companies.
And sadly the biggest people.America is becoming know as the country of obesity and gluttony.America is officially the fattest nation in the world- Only one state in all of America has less than a 20 percent prevalence of obesity which happens to be Colorado.
I took the three main races in America and found their obesity rates. All these percentages and statistics are from 2008 Caucasians have the lowest rate of obesity in America with 24%.
-Followed by Hispanic people Hispanics had 29 %
According to statistics African Americans have the highest obesity rates in America. African Americans had an obesity rate of 36 %,
-The current Nation’s economic crisis is not looking well to help obesity. Because of unemployment rates being so low and also inflation. People will be working more and not being around the house as much. Families are looking for a quick, cheap meal instead of a home cooked meal. Usually a cheap quick meal that everyone is used to is fast food. In America Over 68 billion dollars are spent directly on Medicare costs due to Obesity each year.Children that are treated for obesity account for roughly 3 times more than children of normal weight.
-Alongside America having the biggest people research shows the south has the biggest people in all of America. The southern states have larger people because traditionally southern states have larger meals. Home cooked and also fast food. Southern States also have the most cases of diabetes due to obesity. In the past decade childhood cases of type 2 diabetes have increased by 10 times more because of the rising rates of Obesity. It is dangerous for children to be diagnosed with this disease so early, causing for those children to have early graves dug.
Portion sizes have drastically changed in the last twenty years. If someone from the 80s were to be transported to the present they would not only be stunned by gas prices but also how drastically how much bigger food has gotten.Resturant and fast food servings are twice what they used to be. Infact in 1980 The McDonalds Large 16 ounce drink is now the small. The new large drink is 32 ounces. - Not only in the fast food industry but also within the home. -One example of this is the supersize option at McDonalds.- Fast food is very unhealthy it contains a very high amount of sodium. sugar, and fat. Making your risk to obesity much greater when you eat fast food.
In America there about 13,000 stores and 83 of them are located in the city of Manhattan, New York.
America is recognizing this problem and is trying to find solutions, but they can’t just do it alone. So what is America doing about this overweight generation?
The government is now starting to consider taxing soda and all sugary drinks. The extra tax is too help pay for the the high healthcare costs that have reached all time new levels. The government estimated that adding a tax of three cents per 12-ounce serving to these types of sweetened drinks would generate $24 billion over the next four years.-Maybe this will help our young society to not drink soda maybe it will not but it is helping the burden of America’s health care costs. -Coke Coke is trying to make its’ soda accessible to everyone in the world. Anyone in the world would only have to walk a mile at most to get a bottle of coke. There are people in Africa that barely have that much access to fresh water but they can get a coke. - Believed this new tax to be outrageous.
Michelle Obama is making sure that everyone in America is receiving healthy food. They are putting healthier foods in school so that children may chose from more nutritious food. The first lady’s commitment to help the children of America to stop spending so much time inside and get outside and starting to get more physical activity.
What exactly is a calorie? They simply represent energy. A calorie is a measurement of energy. Your body needs calories every single minute of the day, to help you breathe or stuff like keep your hair growing. Just as a car needs fuel to drive. -The Calorie chart has the average daily calorie intake of all the age groups. The average male intakes 2000 to 3000 calories a day. The average female intakes about 1800 calories a day.-When you are told how many calories you should each day, this means that if you intake that many calories each day you will neither gain or lose weight.
Something every other week I like to do is go to Burger King for Whopper Wednesday. When you look at the large meal you have a large 32 ounce drink which equals 390 calories- Then a large fry is another 540 calories, and finally the burger with 920 calories. The total amount of calories amounting to a whopping 1850 calories. This one meal would take up more than a good majority of anyone's daily calorie intake. Most of the calories that fast food amounts to are called empty calories.
What is an Empty Calorie. Well to answer that question, empty calories have a high amount of calories but are very low in nutrition. Some examples of foods that contain mostly empty calories are french fries, fried chicken, chips, and all other deep fried foods.Tips on ways to Avoid Empty Calories- Instead of ordering french fries you could order a baked potato, or instead of fried chicken you could order a grilled piece of chicken. A good tip to avoid empty calories are to not eat anything that is deep fried.
Obesity increases the likelihood of many diseases.-Itcan cause heart disease -The heart is one of the most important organs in the body next to the brain. If the heart stops working altogether you will die within minutes. You need your heart to pump the blood throughout your body for everything to function right. -There are many types of heart diseases but they all ultimately disrupt the heart and its’ pumping action. Coronary Artery Disease is most common of the heart diseases - The main cause from obesity -Atherosclerosis which is the hardening of the arteries.
