Factors affecting undergraduate students’ motivation at a university in Tra Vinh
ABSTRACT: Motivation plays an important role in foreign language learning process. This study aimed to
investigate student’s motivation patterns towards English language learning at a University in Tra Vinh, and factors
affecting their motivation change toward English language learning of non-English-major students in the semester.
The researcher used semi-structured interview at the first phase of choosing the participants and writing reflection
through the instrument called “My English Learning Motivation History” adapted from Sawyer (2007) to collect
qualitative data within 15 weeks. The participants consisted of nine first year non-English-major students who learning
General English at pre-intermediate level. They were chosen and divided into three groups of three members each
(high motivation group; average motivation group; and low motivation group). The results of the present study
identified six visual motivation patterns of three groups of students with different motivation fluctuation, through the
use of cluster analysis. The study also indicated a diversity of factors affecting students’ motivation involving internal
factors as influencing factors (cognitive, psychology, and emotion) and external factors as social factors (instructor,
peers, family, and learning environment) during English language learning in a period of 15 weeks. The findings of
the study helped teacher understand relationship of motivation change and its influential factors. Furthermore, the
findings also inspired next research about motivation development in learning English process.

opportunities. At present, Huzhou tourism has become one of the most characteristic tourist cities on the East
China tourism line. With the development of Huzhou City, the tourism industry has been further improved, and
the tourism degree of the whole city has further increased the transformation and upgrading of the tourism
industry. However, the development of tourism in Huzhou City still lags far behind the tourism development of
major cities in East China. This round of research mainly analyzes the current development of tourism in
Huzhou City, on the basis of analyzing the specific situation, pointed out that the current development of
Huzhou tourism problems, and then analyzes these problems one by one, and put forward some specific
solutions, so as to promote the further rapid development of tourism in Huzhou City.

- 2. This setting I have chose, which I believe that will come in handy in many of the scenes featured in the trailer. Ross Gibson, when on his search for the missing girl (Isabella) , will need places to search. Not only is he involved in a search for the missing girl but he will be following around people who he believes are the kidnappers. The search for the kidnapper can be done in the park, as shown with the long round down, which can be shot showing Gibson following who he suspects is behind the kidnapping. This can be done with eye-line matches looking back from the perceived kidnapper, but seeing no one behind him. The fact that the suspected kidnapper will be walking down a road in a park, creates an enhanced perception and suspicion of the character being the kidnapper as a park is usually a place where many kids are abducted as well as being vast with many places to hide people. The filming will be based around the winter period, giving the effect when filming of a secretive and closed place, being dark with little light. AVENUE HOUSE PARK
- 3. To add to the suspicion, I found a place which shows a continuous inward road into the forest of the same park. Once more if filmed in darker weather conditions, and using the torch prop, could showing the action of Gibson searching for the killer, or the young girl who had been taken. This could once more be used in a scene when Gibson is following who he believes is the abductor of his neighbours daughter. The Fact that the suspected kidnapper is walking into the forest of the park shows there must be something hidden within . It also looks very suspicious and gives the audience the perception that Gibson is following the right man and is on the right track to prove everyone wrong. This setting can add to the darker side of the trailer, as we could see Gibson searching in the dark with a torch, and could at any moment be jump scared or he could find the girl in bad conditions.
