Realistic fiction or no?
This document examines different genres of literature to determine if they are examples of realistic fiction. It analyzes Bud, Not Buddy, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Cinderella, and How To Code based on components and criteria for realistic fiction such as historical accuracy, scientific plausibility, and inclusion of magic or fantasy elements. Most of the stories are determined to not be realistic fiction due to missing historical details, involving other genres like fantasy, fairy tales, or science fiction, or presenting informational materials rather than a narrative. Only Bud, Not Buddy fully meets the criteria to be considered realistic fiction.
2010 Caudill Nominees
The Rebecca Caudill Award is given annually to the most outstanding book voted on by students in grades 4-8 in Illinois schools. Last year's winner was The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The purpose of the award is to encourage children and young adults to read for fun and develop a lifelong interest in reading. A list of 15 books nominated for the 2010 award is then presented, each with a brief genre and plot description.

Narrative graphics
Graphic novels are books that contain comic strips and illustrations to tell a story. They can be fiction, non-fiction, or an anthology. Graphic novels are distinguished from comic books which are periodicals. Many graphic novels are adapted into films, and some films are adapted into graphic novels. One example is Coraline by Neil Gaiman which was first a graphic novel then a stop motion film. Graphic novels are rarely praised but Maus, about the author's father's experience in the Holocaust using mice to represent Jews and cats to represent Germans, was the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize.
Develop A Story for Screen
This document provides guidance on developing the key elements of a screenplay idea, including coming up with a high concept plot or hook, defining the main characters of the hero and adversary, and establishing the hero's internal flaw or need. It stresses the importance of having a remarkable one-line idea, or logline, that pitches who wants what but is blocked by whom. Templates and examples are given to help the reader understand these fundamental components for telling a compelling story.
