It allows each store to have its own database and provides functionality for basic transactions, inquiries, and reports. However, certain business processes and distributing inventory among stores are beyond the scope of what was developed.

Netapp Deduplication concepts
NetApp deduplication provides block-level deduplication within flexible volumes to reduce storage capacity needs. It works at the 4KB block level on active file systems and can be configured to run automatically or manually. Deduplication uses fingerprints that are unique digital signatures for blocks. During deduplication, fingerprints are compared and any duplicate blocks are replaced with a pointer to the existing data block to save space. Up to 4% additional space may be needed in a volume and up to 3% in an aggregate for deduplication metadata.

- 1. Blockflix Grid Team Blockflix is a movie rental business solution that has been developed with access to the database provided exclusively by stored procedures. Certain key business processes such as collection and review of payments for membership, or penalties are beyond the scope of the backend that we have developed. We designed the database to allow each store to have it’s own database needed for a high availability system but did not include the supporting processes in this exercise.
- 3. Blockflix Grid Team We did not provide a procedure to disperse inventory among the branch stores as that was believed to be part of a scenario where each store would have a local database. We did however write a script to disperse the inventory across all stores so that we could prove our inquiries and reports work properly.
