5. The Apostle Paul’s Focus
Toward the end of his life, Paul said to Timothy
(2 Tim. 4:6-8):
…the time for my departure is near.
I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me
the crown of righteousness
which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that
day--and not only to me, but also
to all who have longed for his appearing.

Joy comes from investing spiritually in other people
Indeed, you are our glory and joy. 1Thess 2:20
Joy can be had in the midst of suffering
...you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering
with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 1Thess 1:6
Future joy should motivate our present actions
…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its
shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. 12:2

9. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where
moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and
steal.
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroys and thieves do not break
in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Do it all for the glory of God.
It’s the motive that counts!
