outside God
• Achievements – performance based
acceptance
• Relationships
• Children
• Acquiring money/things
• Recognition from others
• Work/careers
• Play hard
22. Without purpose, life has no
meaning.
“I have labored to
no purpose; I have
spent my labor and
strength in vain and
for nothing.”
Isaiah 49:4
Pain-avoidance
25. Most people lack purpose and
meaning because they have no
relationship with God
May He grant you
according to your heart’s
desire and fulfill all your
purpose.
Psalm 20:4
26. Finding your purpose
begins with God
…everything got started in him and
finds its purpose in him.”
– Colossians 1:16 (Msg)
27. You were created and
set apart by God
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set
you apart.” -- Jer 1:5
28. God created you and set
you apart for a purpose
“For I know the
plans I have for
you,” declares the
Lord, “plans to
prosper you and
not to harm you,
plans to give you
hope and a future.”
– Jer 29:11
29. Our ultimate purpose is to know God
This is what the LORD says:
"Let not the wise man boast of
his wisdom or the strong man
boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his
riches, but let him who boasts
boast about this: that he
understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD, who
exercises kindness, justice
and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,“ declares
the LORD. Jer. 9:23
30. God has determined
our purpose
“For we are God’s workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in
advance for us to do.”
– Ephesians 2:10
31. Your purpose in life is
chosen by God.
“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me”
(Ps. 138:8).
Not everyone fulfills their purpose
but everyone has one.
32. We were planned
before time began
“…who has saved us and called us with a
holy calling, not according to our works,
but according to His own purpose and
grace which was given to us in Christ
Jesus before time began,” (2 Tim. 1:9).
33. Pre-appointed
Time and Place
And He has
determined
their pre-appointed
times and the
boundaries of their
dwellings ...
Acts 17:26-29
34. I have an assigned portion
(purpose and destiny).
LORD, you have assigned me my
portion and my cup; you have
made my lot secure. The boundary
lines have fallen for me in pleasant
places; surely I have a delightful
inheritance. Ps 16:5-6
36. The two most important
days in your life are the day
you are born and the day
you find out why.
Mark Twain
37. 1. Seek God first...yet God chose us. He is the
initiator. We respond to his invitation.
“But seek first His Kingdom and His
righteousness and all these things will be
given to you as well.” – Matt 6:33
38. Steps to Discovery
2. Self-discovery of gifts and
aptitudes
3. Progressive, building block
process
4. Character Development –
Joseph Process
39. 5. Divine revelation & circumstances
– Paul – Damascus Road
– Moses – burning bush
– Gunnar Olson 1996
– Cyprus 1998
40. What God calls us to cannot be definitely stated, because His call is
simply to be His friend to accomplish His own purposes. Our real
test is in truly believing that God knows what He desires. The things
that happen do not happen by chance— they happen entirely by the
decree of God. God is sovereignly working out His own purposes.
–Oswald Chambers
41. God’s ultimate assignment for our lives
often comes with “great horror and
darkness” Satan wants to thwart the
purposes of God in you. i.e. Abraham
Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon
Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon
him. Then He said to Abram: "Know certainly that your
descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs,
and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred
years………." Gen 15:12-16
42. When God calls you to walk down a certain
path, He gives you, and only you, the grace
for that assignment. Do not let others sway
you out of sympathy or reasoning.
43. Rev 2:17
“And I will give him a white
stone, and on the stone a new
name written which no one knows
except him who receives it.”
Each of us has a name in
Heaven that uniquely fits us.
44. Each person has a book in heaven.
“Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed
and in Your book they all were written,
the days fashioned for me,
when as yet there were none of them.” - Ps 139:16
45. Our individual book is a
written record of all that
God planned for us and
the Kingdom impact He
has destined for our
lives. Every person ever
born has a book written
about them. The battle is
to get what is in the
book to manifest on the
earth.
46. What’s in your book?
“Your law is within my
heart.” Ps 40:8
What are your interests,
desires, aspirations,
longings and passions?
Clues to what is in your
book in heaven.
