A server is a computer that provides information to other computers connected to it via a network. Servers require certain minimum hardware specifications including a processor of at least 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, and 10GB of available storage. To install Windows Server 2008, one must start from a bootable USB drive, select installation options such as disk partitioning, and complete a setup process that includes setting passwords and licenses. Servers are used to control network access, send/receive email, manage printing jobs, host websites, and provide information to groups rather than individuals. They also enhance security by requiring login credentials and blocking unauthorized access to stored data.
