Autism and Education
The project I have chosen to radically revise my second paper about Autism and Education. I plan on making an informative power point based on the researched information from my paper. In the power point, I will discuss the different options available to the parents of children with autism. The different options I will discuss include enrolling a child in a private school, the process of enrolling a child in public school, and enrolling a child in an alternative school. For each option, I will discuss the pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages of each choice. The objectives of my power point include informing parents of autism more about the disorder, outlining the step by step process of enrolling a child into a special education program in a public school, outlining the different laws associated with how the public school systems and special education, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and give references for more information on Autism and how to help out the cause. The goal of the power point overall is to inform parents of children with autism of their different options, and hopefully it will become an aid in their decision when it comes time to decide how they want to educate their child. I also plan on providing more information on Autism, so they will be able to learn more about the disorder and have some references to find more information about it.
As for the interface, I will be using Microsoft Powerpoint. In the program there is an option to ‘Publish as a Webpage”, which is how I am going to publish my work. I will be posting the link to the webpage I created with the power point to a blog I created so it will be accessible to a wide audience. By using a blog as well I give the audience a chance to provide feedback on my website, or a forum to post more information. Parents can post their opinions, choices, or provide advice for each other.

Library Sleepover @ EEE
The children had a storytime and made gingerbread houses to take home. That evening, they played in the library and various toys watched a video, played games on the computer, read books, and looked at pictures of birds. After a snack, it was time to sleep in a gingerbread house the children had made the previous Saturday at the Egg Harbor City Library branch.

San Rafael Public Library started offering STEM programs for preschoolers on Saturdays after finding weekday programs were poorly attended due to parents' work schedules. The programs were very popular, filling to capacity with repeat participants. Families commented that the programs helped spark their children's interest in science. Moving forward, the library plans to allow more freedom of movement in programs to keep children engaged and incorporate different activity stations related to topics. The goal is to nurture curiosity and a love of learning in children.

UK Comenius project dissemination event

The Acquisitions Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) Libraries underwent restructuring due to budget cuts and changing needs. Two staff positions were reallocated to other departments, reducing the Acquisitions staff from 9 to 7. The department distributed responsibilities differently and provided training to adapt to new workflows. Changes were ongoing across the libraries to do more with fewer resources through efficiencies like copy cataloging and patron-driven acquisitions. Regular communication, training, and staff involvement helped manage the transition.
Read to a Dog Program Information
The first formal reading dog program called R.E.A.D. began in 1999 in Salt Lake City where therapy dogs listened to children read. Studies found that children who read to dogs improved their reading skills and had lower stress levels. Many public libraries now offer reading dog programs which are popular among both struggling and skilled young readers. The volunteers and their certified therapy dogs play an important role in helping children gain confidence in their reading abilities.

- Are you hoping to expand services to youth with disabilities in your community? Are you interested in offering sensory storytimes for children with disabilities or special needs in the public library? Charlotte Mecklenburg library staff along with a couple of community partners will hold a panel discussion on sensory programming. Workshop participants will gain ideas that include: getting sensory storytimes started in the public library; partnering with local community agencies and schools; holding focus groups and learning from parents about programming needs; and connecting with others offering sensory programming. Participants will receive program ideas/outlines; information about creating sensory programming kits; suggestions for creating a family contact distribution list; and booklists to consider for the library collection. In addition, participants will gain information from community panelists about services and what the public library can offer for youth with disabilities or special needs.
