This paper proposes a fault diagnosis scheme applied to a wind turbine system. The technique used is based on a modified sliding mode observer (SMO), which permits the reconstruction of actuator and sensor faults. A wind turbine benchmark with a real sequence of wind speed is exploited to validate the proposed fault detection and diagnosis scheme. Rotor speed, generator speed, blade pitch angle, and generator torque have different orders of magnitude. As a result, the dedicated sensors are susceptible to faults of quite varying magnitudes, and estimating simultaneous sensor faults with accuracy using a classical SMO is difficult. To address this issue, some modifications are made to the classic SMO. In order to test the efficiency of the modified SMO, several sensor fault scenarios have been simulated, first in the case of separate faults and then in the case of simultaneous faults. The simulation results show that the sensor faults are isolated, detected, and reconstructed accurately in the case of separate faults. In the case of simultaneous faults, with the proposed modification of SMO, the faults are precisely isolated, detected, and reconstructed, even though they have quite different amplitudes; thus, the relative gap does not exceed 0.08% for the generator speed sensor fault.
African vulture optimizer algorithm based vector control induction motor driv...IJECEIAES
This study describes a new optimization approach for three-phase induction motor speed drive to minimize the integral square error for speed controller and improve the dynamic speed performance. The new proposed algorithm, African vulture optimizer algorithm (AVOA) optimizes internal controller parameters of a fuzzy like proportional differential (PD) speed controller. The AVOA is notable for its ease of implementation, minimal number of design parameters, high convergence speed, and low computing burden. This study compares fuzzy-like PD speed controllers optimized with AVOA to adaptive fuzzy logic speed regulators, fuzzy-like PD optimized with genetic algorithm (GA), and proportional integral (PI) speed regulators optimized with AVOA to provide speed control for an induction motor drive system. The drive system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink and laboratory prototype is implemented using DSP-DS1104 board. The results demonstrate that the suggested fuzzy-like PD speed controller optimized with AVOA, with a speed steady state error performance of 0.5% compared to the adaptive fuzzy logic speed regulator’s 0.7%, is the optimum alternative for speed controller. The results clarify the effectiveness of the controllers based on fuzzy like PD speed controller optimized with AVOA for each performance index as it provides lower overshoot, lowers rising time, and high dynamic response.

In this paper, a Wind Turbine Emulator (WTE) based on a separately excited direct current (DC) motor is studied. The wind turbine was emulated by controlling the torque of the DC motor. The WTE is used as a prime mover for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM). In order to extract maximum power from the wind, PI and Fuzzy controllers were tested. Simulation results are given to show performance of proposed fuzzy control system in maximum power points tracking in a wind energy conversion system under various wind conditions. The strategy control was implemented in simulation using MATLAB/Simulink.

Wind Energy has received great attention in this century. It influences the new power systems, adding new challenges to the power system expansion problem. Nowadays, double feed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbines are used majorly in wind farms, due to their advantages over other types. Therefore, the analysis of the system using this type has become very important. In this paper, a wind turbine modelling was introduced with suggested controllers, in order to enhance the system response, with respect to both pitch control and maximum output power. Cuckoo search algorithm (CSA), a meta-heuristic optimization technique, was implemented to determine the gains of a proportional-integral (PI) controller and fractional order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controller to optimize the system, which considered three control loops: pitch, rotor-side converter, and grid-side converter control loop. Simulation results were determined using MATLAB/Simulink. The comparative analysis of the results showed that the PI Controller gave the simplest and the best response in case of the pitch and rotor-side control loops while the FOPID was the best when applied to the grid-side control loop. Based on the results and discussion, a suggestion of using a compination of each controller was introduced.

This paper presents the design of the modified sliding mode controller (MSMC) for the purpose of tracking the nonlinear system with mismatched disturbance. Provided that the performance of the designed controller depends on the value of control parameters, gravitational search algorithm (GSA), and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques are used to optimize these parameters in order to achieve a predefined system’s performance. In respect of system’s performance, it is evaluated based on the tracking error present between reference inputs transferred to the system and the system output. This is followed by verification of the efficiency of the designed controller in simulation environment under various values, with and without the inclusion of external disturbance. It can be seen from the simulation results that the MSMC with PSO exhibits a better performance in comparison to the performance of the similar controller with GSA in terms of output response and tracking error.

In this papier, a low-cost solar photovoltaic water pumping system based on an induction motor without the use of chemical energy storage is presented. In literature, we can find several Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithms, the choice of the algorithm is according to the nature of application. In this article, Variable Step Size Incremental Conductance MPPT method has been developed since it is fast and has less oscillations. The studied photovoltaic pumping system contains a centrifugal pump which is driven by a three-phase asynchronous motor. To control the water flow, the field-oriented control has been implemented. The control system is applied on two cities with different climatic conditions to evaluate their performance. The photovoltaic pumping system is developed using the MATLAB/Simulink software to discuss the results obtained. Consequently, the proposed MPPT based on the incremental conductance variable step shows good performances in terms of efficiency and tracking speed.

This paper presents a new nonlinear control for the overall model of a three-blade horizontal axis variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) including mechanical and electrical parts, with the aim of improving its performance and making it more profitable. The proposed control is an extension of the classical sliding mode control (SMC) by converting its sliding surface into a sliding sector. The classical SMC approach is widely used for nonlinear systems due to its stability against parameter variation, it is robustness against modeling uncertainties, its good results against external disturbances, and its ease of implementation in real time. Unfortunately, the SMC has a major drawback related to the chattering phenomenon. This phenomenon is due to the utility of a higher switching gain in the case of large uncertainties, it causes high-frequency oscillations once the sliding regime is reached, and it can cause a loss of accuracy by influencing the input control variables. This is the reason that aims to develop a new control law to eliminate the chattering and to guarantee stability, which is demonstrated by the Lyapunov theory. The effectiveness of the developed control is compared with the SMC and is illustrated by numerical simulations using MATLAB toolboxes.

Nonlinear control of WECS based on PMSG for optimal power extraction IJECEIAES
This paper proposes a robust control strategy for optimizing the maximum power captured in Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) based on permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG), which is integrated into the grid. In order to achieve the maximum power point (MPPT) the machine side converter regulates the rotational speed of the PMSG to track the optimal speed. To evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed controller, a comparative study between the IBC control and the vector control based on PI controller was carried out through computer simulation. This analysis consists of two case studies including stochastic variation in wind speed and step change in wind speed.

Alienor method applied to induction machine parameters identification IJECEIAES
This paper presents an identification method to estimate simultaneously the electrical and mechanical induction machine (IM) parameters by using only the measured current and the corresponding phase voltage. This identification method is based on the output error and uses the multidimensional Alienor global optimization method as a minimization technique. Alienor method is essentially based on converting multivariable problem to monovariable one. To improve the Alienor method performance, the reducing transformation is proposed and compared with the genetic algorithm (GA). Firstly, the identification method is verified using the simulated data. Secondly, the validation is then confirmed by measured data from one machine. The corresponding computed transient and steady state currents agree well with the measured data. The results obtained show the superiority of the proposed Alienor method versus GA in terms of computing time.
This paper presents simulation and experimental results of anti-windup PI controller to improve induction machine speed control based on direct torque control (DTC) strategy. Problems like rollover can arise in conventional PI controller due to saturation effect. In order to avoid such problems anti-windup PI controller is presented. This controller is simple for implementation in practice. The proposed anti-windup PI controller demonstrates better dynamic step changes response in speed in terms of overshoots. All simulation work was done using Simulink in the MATLAB software. The experimental results were obtained by practical implementation on a dSPACE 1104 board for a 1.5 KW induction machine. Simulation and experimental results have proven a good performance and verified the validity of the presented control strategy.
In this paper, a detail design and description of a predictive current control scheme are adopted for three-phase grid-connected two-level inverter and its application in wind energy conversion systems. Despite its advantages, the predictive current controller is very sensitive to parameter variations which could eventually affected on system stability. To solve this problem, an estimation technique proposed to identify the value of harmonic filter parameter based on Model reference adaptive system (MRAS). Lyapunov stability theory is selected to guarantee a robust adaptation and stable response over large system parameter variation. The simulation results shows the efficiency of the proposed techniques to improve the current tracking performance.

Finite element method is more precise than the winding function approach, as it is based on the actual geometry of the machine and the machine model can easily be modified in order to study the effect of faults on the machine’s performance. Accurate models of the machine under healthy and faulty conditions are developed. This paper presents simulations of broken bars detection in a three phase squirrel cage induction motor under no load, half load and full load conditions for two and eight broken bars. The analysis is done using MagNet.
Inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) faults on the induction machine has received much attention in the recent years. Early detection of such faults in wind turbine systems would allow to avoid fluctuation on wind power output and maintain the reliability level. In this paper, Sliding Mode Observers (SMO)-based fault detection and isolation method is developed for induction generator (IG)-based variable-speed grid-connected wind turbines. Firstly, the dynamic model of the wind turbine and IG was given and then, the control was made based on Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method. The IG closed-loop via Indirect Rotor Flux Oriented Control (IRFOC) scheme was also described. Hence, the performance of the wind turbine system and the stability of injected power to the grid were analyzed under the ITSC fault conditions. The control schemes were proved to be inherently unstable under the faulty conditions. Then, robust SMO were investigated to design an ITSC fault detection and isolation scheme. Finally, simulation results of ITSC detection and isolation in the variable-speed grid-connected wind turbine with affected IG confirm the theoretical development.
Design and investigations of MPPT strategies for a wind energy conversion sys...IJECEIAES
The purpose of this work is to design and to discuss various strategies to optimize the production of a wind energy conversion chain based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), by capturing the maximum power at the wind turbine, using maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and pitch control. The proposed controls allow the generator to monitor the optimal operating points of the turbines regardless of wind speed variations, system parameters disturbance, and parameters variation. Simulation of WECS based on a 1.5 MW wound rotor induction generator under MATLAB/SIMULINK is carried out using the PI controller (PIC), RST controller and fuzzy logic controller (FLC). Analysis and comparisons are made for different operating scenarios: Reference tracking, robustness under variable wind speed conditions and parameters variation. The application of FLC provides a very interesting outcome for the robustness and the dynamic challenges.
Improving the delivered power quality from WECS to the grid based on PMSG con...IJECEIAES
Renewable energy has become one of the most energy resources nowadays, especially, wind energy. It is important to implement more analysis and develop new control algorithms due to the rapid changes in the wind generators size and the power electronics development in wind energy applications. This paper proposes a grid-connected wind energy conversion system (WECS) control scheme using permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The model works to improve the delivered power quality and maximize its value. The system contained one controller on the grid side converter (GSC) and two simulation packages used to simulate this model, which were PSIM software package for simulating power circuit and power electronics converters, and MATLAB software package for simulating the controller on Simulink. It employed a meta-heuristic technique to fulfil this target effectively. Mine-blast algorithm (MBA) and harmony search optimization technique (HSO) were applied to the proposed method to get the best controller coefficient to ensure maximum power to the grid and minimize the overshoot and the steady state error for the different control signals. The comparison between the results of the MBA and the HSO showed that the MBA gave better results with the proposed system.
Evaluation of wind-solar hybrid power generation system based on Monte Carlo...IJECEIAES
The application of wind-photovoltaic complementary power generation systems is becoming more and more widespread, but its intermittent and fluctuating characteristics may have a certain impact on the system's reliability. To better evaluate the reliability of stand-alone power generation systems with wind and photovoltaic generators, a reliability assessment model for stand-alone power generation systems with wind and photovoltaic generators was developed based on the analysis of the impact of wind and photovoltaic generator outages and derating on reliability. A sequential Monte Carlo method was used to evaluate the impact of the wind turbine, photovoltaic (PV) turbine, wind/photovoltaic complementary system, the randomness of wind turbine/photovoltaic outage status and penetration rate on the reliability of Independent photovoltaic power generation system (IPPS) under the reliability test system (RBTS). The results show that this reliability assessment method can provide some reference for planning the actual IPP system with wind and complementary solar systems.
Intelligent Control for Doubly Fed Induction Generator Connected to the Elect...IJPEDS-IAES
In this paper we are interested in optimizing the wind power capture, using the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). This machine is preferred to other types of variable speed generator because of their advantages in economic terms and control. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based on Direct Torque Control (DTC) which is used to control the electromagnetic torque in order to extract the maximum power. The main objective of this intelligent technique is to replace the conventional switching table by a voltage selector based on (ANN) to reduce torque and flux ripples. Moreover, the fuzzy logic controller is used to grid side converter to keep DC link voltage constant, and also to achieve unity power factor operation. The main advantage of the two control strategies proposed in this paper is that they are not influenced by the variation of the machine parameter. The pitch control is also presented to limit the generator power at its rated value. Simulation results of 1,5 MW, for (DFIG) based Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) confirm the effectiveness and the performance of the global proposed approaches.
This paper describes the design and implementation of Hardware in the Loop (HIL) system D.C. motor based wind turbine emulator for the condition monitoring of wind turbines. Operating the HIL system, it is feasible to replicate the actual operative conditions of wind turbines in a laboratory environment. This method simply and cost-effectively allows evaluating the software and hardware controlling the operation of the generator. This system has been implemented in the LabVIEW based programs by using Advantech- USB-4704-AE Data acquisition card. This paper describes all the components of the systems and their operations along with the control strategies of WTE such as Pitch control and MPPT. Experimental results of the developed simulator using the test rig are benchmarked with the previously verified WT test rigs developed at the Durham University and the University of Manchester in the UK by using the generated current spectra of the generator. Electric subassemblies are most vulnerable to damage in practice, generator-winding faults have been introduced and investigated using the terminal voltage. This wind turbine simulator can be analyzed or reconfigured for the condition monitoring without the requirement of actual WT’s.

Wind power systems are gaining more and more interests; in order to diminish dependence on fossil fuels. In this paper, we present a variable speed-wind energy global system based on a synchronous generator with permanent magnetic (PMSG). The major goal of this study is to track the maximum power that is present in the turbine. An examination of control methods to extract the MPPT point, from a wind energy conversion system (WECS) under variable speed situations is presented. An intelligent controller based on the fuzzy logic control (FLC) is proposed for regulating permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) output power, in order to improve tracking performance. The principle of this maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm consists in looking for an optimal operating relation of the maximum power, then tracking this last. We simulated our system with MATLAB-Simulink software. The found results will be debated to elucidate performance of the global system.
Wind energy has many advantages, it does not pollute and it is an inexhaustible source. However, the cost of this energy is still too high to compete with traditional fossil sources. A new control technique of Double fed induction generator for wind turbine is undertaken through a robust approach tagged nonlinear sliding mode control (SMC) with exponential reaching law control (ERL). The SMC with ERL proves to be capable of reducing the system chattering phenomenon as well as accelerating the approaching process. A nonlinear case numerical simulation test is employed to verify the superior performance of the ERL method over traditional power rate reaching strategy. Results obtained in Matlab/Simulink environment show that the SMC with ERL is more robust, prove excellent performance for the control unit by improving power quality and stability of wind turbine.
In this paper, an adaptive anti-windup control strategy for permanent magnet synchronous generator dedicated for wind energy conversion systems. The proposed control has the advantage to suppress the performance deterioration caused by the overshooting phenomenon, and optimize the controller gains using the particle swarm optimization algorithm. The scheme of the speed controller is implemented on field orientation control in the generator side converter. A simulation of the proposed scheme is carried out in SIMULINK-MATLAB in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the control against the saturation and the parameter optimization.

A model was developed for each component of the wind turbine (turbine, DFAG and cascade rectifierinverter). MPPT device must be introduced in order to obtain maximum energy efficiency so that PI-MPPT method is made. The objective is to apply this command to control independently the active and reactive powers generated by the asynchronous generator uncoupled by orientation from the flow. The results of digital simulations obtained show the improvement of the performances of the sliding control compared to the field control, also it has provided information on the commands available techniques as reference tracking and robustness.

by women in the various sectors while taking geographic dispersion into
account. The bibliometric analysis delves into topics including women's
leadership in environmental groups, their involvement in policymaking, their
contributions to sustainable development projects, and the influence of
gender diversity on attempts to mitigate climate change. This study's results
highlight how women have influenced policies and actions related to climate
change, point out areas of research deficiency and recommendations on how
to increase role of the women in addressing the climate change and
achieving sustainability. To achieve more successful results, this initiative
aims to highlight the significance of gender equality and encourage
inclusivity in climate change decision-making processes.

The active and reactive load changes have a significant impact on voltage
and frequency. In this paper, in order to stabilize the microgrid (MG) against
load variations in islanding mode, the active and reactive power of all
distributed generators (DGs), including energy storage (battery), diesel
generator, and micro-turbine, are controlled. The micro-turbine generator is
connected to MG through a three-phase to three-phase matrix converter, and
the droop control method is applied for controlling the voltage and
frequency of MG. In addition, a method is introduced for voltage and
frequency control of micro-turbines in the transition state from gridconnected mode to islanding mode. A novel switching strategy of the matrix
converter is used for converting the high-frequency output voltage of the
micro-turbine to the grid-side frequency of the utility system. Moreover,
using the switching strategy, the low-order harmonics in the output current
and voltage are not produced, and consequently, the size of the output filter
would be reduced. In fact, the suggested control strategy is load-independent
and has no frequency conversion restrictions. The proposed approach for
voltage and frequency regulation demonstrates exceptional performance and
favorable response across various load alteration scenarios. The suggested
strategy is examined in several scenarios in the MG test systems, and the
simulation results are addressed.

Alienor method applied to induction machine parameters identification IJECEIAES
This paper presents an identification method to estimate simultaneously the electrical and mechanical induction machine (IM) parameters by using only the measured current and the corresponding phase voltage. This identification method is based on the output error and uses the multidimensional Alienor global optimization method as a minimization technique. Alienor method is essentially based on converting multivariable problem to monovariable one. To improve the Alienor method performance, the reducing transformation is proposed and compared with the genetic algorithm (GA). Firstly, the identification method is verified using the simulated data. Secondly, the validation is then confirmed by measured data from one machine. The corresponding computed transient and steady state currents agree well with the measured data. The results obtained show the superiority of the proposed Alienor method versus GA in terms of computing time.
This paper presents simulation and experimental results of anti-windup PI controller to improve induction machine speed control based on direct torque control (DTC) strategy. Problems like rollover can arise in conventional PI controller due to saturation effect. In order to avoid such problems anti-windup PI controller is presented. This controller is simple for implementation in practice. The proposed anti-windup PI controller demonstrates better dynamic step changes response in speed in terms of overshoots. All simulation work was done using Simulink in the MATLAB software. The experimental results were obtained by practical implementation on a dSPACE 1104 board for a 1.5 KW induction machine. Simulation and experimental results have proven a good performance and verified the validity of the presented control strategy.
In this paper, a detail design and description of a predictive current control scheme are adopted for three-phase grid-connected two-level inverter and its application in wind energy conversion systems. Despite its advantages, the predictive current controller is very sensitive to parameter variations which could eventually affected on system stability. To solve this problem, an estimation technique proposed to identify the value of harmonic filter parameter based on Model reference adaptive system (MRAS). Lyapunov stability theory is selected to guarantee a robust adaptation and stable response over large system parameter variation. The simulation results shows the efficiency of the proposed techniques to improve the current tracking performance.

Inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) faults on the induction machine has received much attention in the recent years. Early detection of such faults in wind turbine systems would allow to avoid fluctuation on wind power output and maintain the reliability level. In this paper, Sliding Mode Observers (SMO)-based fault detection and isolation method is developed for induction generator (IG)-based variable-speed grid-connected wind turbines. Firstly, the dynamic model of the wind turbine and IG was given and then, the control was made based on Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method. The IG closed-loop via Indirect Rotor Flux Oriented Control (IRFOC) scheme was also described. Hence, the performance of the wind turbine system and the stability of injected power to the grid were analyzed under the ITSC fault conditions. The control schemes were proved to be inherently unstable under the faulty conditions. Then, robust SMO were investigated to design an ITSC fault detection and isolation scheme. Finally, simulation results of ITSC detection and isolation in the variable-speed grid-connected wind turbine with affected IG confirm the theoretical development.

The purpose of this work is to design and to discuss various strategies to optimize the production of a wind energy conversion chain based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), by capturing the maximum power at the wind turbine, using maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and pitch control. The proposed controls allow the generator to monitor the optimal operating points of the turbines regardless of wind speed variations, system parameters disturbance, and parameters variation. Simulation of WECS based on a 1.5 MW wound rotor induction generator under MATLAB/SIMULINK is carried out using the PI controller (PIC), RST controller and fuzzy logic controller (FLC). Analysis and comparisons are made for different operating scenarios: Reference tracking, robustness under variable wind speed conditions and parameters variation. The application of FLC provides a very interesting outcome for the robustness and the dynamic challenges.

Renewable energy has become one of the most energy resources nowadays, especially, wind energy. It is important to implement more analysis and develop new control algorithms due to the rapid changes in the wind generators size and the power electronics development in wind energy applications. This paper proposes a grid-connected wind energy conversion system (WECS) control scheme using permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The model works to improve the delivered power quality and maximize its value. The system contained one controller on the grid side converter (GSC) and two simulation packages used to simulate this model, which were PSIM software package for simulating power circuit and power electronics converters, and MATLAB software package for simulating the controller on Simulink. It employed a meta-heuristic technique to fulfil this target effectively. Mine-blast algorithm (MBA) and harmony search optimization technique (HSO) were applied to the proposed method to get the best controller coefficient to ensure maximum power to the grid and minimize the overshoot and the steady state error for the different control signals. The comparison between the results of the MBA and the HSO showed that the MBA gave better results with the proposed system.

The application of wind-photovoltaic complementary power generation systems is becoming more and more widespread, but its intermittent and fluctuating characteristics may have a certain impact on the system's reliability. To better evaluate the reliability of stand-alone power generation systems with wind and photovoltaic generators, a reliability assessment model for stand-alone power generation systems with wind and photovoltaic generators was developed based on the analysis of the impact of wind and photovoltaic generator outages and derating on reliability. A sequential Monte Carlo method was used to evaluate the impact of the wind turbine, photovoltaic (PV) turbine, wind/photovoltaic complementary system, the randomness of wind turbine/photovoltaic outage status and penetration rate on the reliability of Independent photovoltaic power generation system (IPPS) under the reliability test system (RBTS). The results show that this reliability assessment method can provide some reference for planning the actual IPP system with wind and complementary solar systems.
Intelligent Control for Doubly Fed Induction Generator Connected to the Elect...IJPEDS-IAES
In this paper we are interested in optimizing the wind power capture, using the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). This machine is preferred to other types of variable speed generator because of their advantages in economic terms and control. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based on Direct Torque Control (DTC) which is used to control the electromagnetic torque in order to extract the maximum power. The main objective of this intelligent technique is to replace the conventional switching table by a voltage selector based on (ANN) to reduce torque and flux ripples. Moreover, the fuzzy logic controller is used to grid side converter to keep DC link voltage constant, and also to achieve unity power factor operation. The main advantage of the two control strategies proposed in this paper is that they are not influenced by the variation of the machine parameter. The pitch control is also presented to limit the generator power at its rated value. Simulation results of 1,5 MW, for (DFIG) based Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) confirm the effectiveness and the performance of the global proposed approaches.
This paper describes the design and implementation of Hardware in the Loop (HIL) system D.C. motor based wind turbine emulator for the condition monitoring of wind turbines. Operating the HIL system, it is feasible to replicate the actual operative conditions of wind turbines in a laboratory environment. This method simply and cost-effectively allows evaluating the software and hardware controlling the operation of the generator. This system has been implemented in the LabVIEW based programs by using Advantech- USB-4704-AE Data acquisition card. This paper describes all the components of the systems and their operations along with the control strategies of WTE such as Pitch control and MPPT. Experimental results of the developed simulator using the test rig are benchmarked with the previously verified WT test rigs developed at the Durham University and the University of Manchester in the UK by using the generated current spectra of the generator. Electric subassemblies are most vulnerable to damage in practice, generator-winding faults have been introduced and investigated using the terminal voltage. This wind turbine simulator can be analyzed or reconfigured for the condition monitoring without the requirement of actual WT’s.

In this paper, we present a variable speed-wind energy global system based on a synchronous generator with permanent magnetic (PMSG). The major goal of this study is to track the maximum power that is present in the turbine. An examination of control methods to extract the MPPT point, from a wind energy conversion system (WECS) under variable speed situations is presented. An intelligent controller based on the fuzzy logic control (FLC) is proposed for regulating permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) output power, in order to improve tracking performance. The principle of this maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm consists in looking for an optimal operating relation of the maximum power, then tracking this last. We simulated our system with MATLAB-Simulink software. The found results will be debated to elucidate performance of the global system.

identification of a Li-ion battery, employing a nonlinear autoregressive with
exogenous inputs (NARX) model. The proposed approach integrates the
benefits of nonlinear modeling with the adaptability of the NARX structure,
facilitating a more comprehensive representation of the intricate
electrochemical processes within the battery. Experimental data collected
from a Li-ion battery operating under diverse scenarios are employed to
validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. The identified
NARX model exhibits superior accuracy in predicting the battery's behavior
compared to traditional linear models. This study underscores the
importance of accounting for nonlinearities in battery modeling, providing
insights into the intricate relationships between state-of-charge, voltage, and
current under dynamic conditions.
Smart grid deployment: from a bibliometric analysis to a surveyIJECEIAES
Smart grids are one of the last decades' innovations in electrical energy.
They bring relevant advantages compared to the traditional grid and
significant interest from the research community. Assessing the field's
evolution is essential to propose guidelines for facing new and future smart
grid challenges. In addition, knowing the main technologies involved in the
deployment of smart grids (SGs) is important to highlight possible
shortcomings that can be mitigated by developing new tools. This paper
contributes to the research trends mentioned above by focusing on two
objectives. First, a bibliometric analysis is presented to give an overview of
the current research level about smart grid deployment. Second, a survey of
the main technological approaches used for smart grid implementation and
their contributions are highlighted. To that effect, we searched the Web of
Science (WoS), and the Scopus databases. We obtained 5,663 documents
from WoS and 7,215 from Scopus on smart grid implementation or
deployment. With the extraction limitation in the Scopus database, 5,872 of
the 7,215 documents were extracted using a multi-step process. These two
datasets have been analyzed using a bibliometric tool called bibliometrix.
The main outputs are presented with some recommendations for future
research.

One of the problems that are associated to power systems is islanding
condition, which must be rapidly and properly detected to prevent any
negative consequences on the system's protection, stability, and security.
This paper offers a thorough overview of several islanding detection
strategies, which are divided into two categories: classic approaches,
including local and remote approaches, and modern techniques, including
techniques based on signal processing and computational intelligence.
Additionally, each approach is compared and assessed based on several
factors, including implementation costs, non-detected zones, declining
power quality, and response times using the analytical hierarchy process
(AHP). The multi-criteria decision-making analysis shows that the overall
weight of passive methods (24.7%), active methods (7.8%), hybrid methods
(5.6%), remote methods (14.5%), signal processing-based methods (26.6%),
and computational intelligent-based methods (20.8%) based on the
comparison of all criteria together. Thus, it can be seen from the total weight
that hybrid approaches are the least suitable to be chosen, while signal
processing-based methods are the most appropriate islanding detection
method to be selected and implemented in power system with respect to the
aforementioned factors. Using Expert Choice software, the proposed
hierarchy model is studied and examined.
Enhancing of single-stage grid-connected photovoltaic system using fuzzy logi...IJECEIAES
The power generated by photovoltaic (PV) systems is influenced by
environmental factors. This variability hampers the control and utilization of
solar cells' peak output. In this study, a single-stage grid-connected PV
system is designed to enhance power quality. Our approach employs fuzzy
logic in the direct power control (DPC) of a three-phase voltage source
inverter (VSI), enabling seamless integration of the PV connected to the
grid. Additionally, a fuzzy logic-based maximum power point tracking
(MPPT) controller is adopted, which outperforms traditional methods like
incremental conductance (INC) in enhancing solar cell efficiency and
minimizing the response time. Moreover, the inverter's real-time active and
reactive power is directly managed to achieve a unity power factor (UPF).
The system's performance is assessed through MATLAB/Simulink
implementation, showing marked improvement over conventional methods,
particularly in steady-state and varying weather conditions. For solar
irradiances of 500 and 1,000 W/m2
, the results show that the proposed
method reduces the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the injected current
to the grid by approximately 46% and 38% compared to conventional
methods, respectively. Furthermore, we compare the simulation results with
IEEE standards to evaluate the system's grid compatibility.

Robot manipulators have become important equipment in production lines, medical fields, and transportation. Improving the quality of trajectory tracking for
robot hands is always an attractive topic in the research community. This is a
challenging problem because robot manipulators are complex nonlinear systems
and are often subject to fluctuations in loads and external disturbances. This
article proposes an adaptive synchronous sliding control scheme to improve trajectory tracking performance for a robot manipulator. The proposed controller
ensures that the positions of the joints track the desired trajectory, synchronize
the errors, and significantly reduces chattering. First, the synchronous tracking
errors and synchronous sliding surfaces are presented. Second, the synchronous
tracking error dynamics are determined. Third, a robust adaptive control law is
designed,the unknown components of the model are estimated online by the neural network, and the parameters of the switching elements are selected by fuzzy
logic. The built algorithm ensures that the tracking and approximation errors
are ultimately uniformly bounded (UUB). Finally, the effectiveness of the constructed algorithm is demonstrated through simulation and experimental results.
Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed controller is effective with small synchronous tracking errors, and the chattering phenomenon is
significantly reduced.

A remote laboratory utilizing field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technologies enhances students’ learning experience anywhere and anytime in embedded system design. Existing remote laboratories prioritize hardware access and visual feedback for observing board behavior after programming, neglecting comprehensive debugging tools to resolve errors that require internal signal acquisition. This paper proposes a novel remote embeddedsystem design approach targeting FPGA technologies that are fully interactive via a web-based platform. Our solution provides FPGA board access and debugging capabilities beyond the visual feedback provided by existing remote laboratories. We implemented a lab module that allows users to seamlessly incorporate into their FPGA design. The module minimizes hardware resource utilization while enabling the acquisition of a large number of data samples from the signal during the experiments by adaptively compressing the signal prior to data transmission. The results demonstrate an average compression ratio of 2.90 across three benchmark signals, indicating efficient signal acquisition and effective debugging and analysis. This method allows users to acquire more data samples than conventional methods. The proposed lab allows students to remotely test and debug their designs, bridging the gap between theory and practice in embedded system design.

Efficiently identifying and resolving code smells enhances software project quality. This paper presents a novel solution, utilizing automated machine learning (AutoML) techniques, to detect code smells and apply move method refactoring. By evaluating code metrics before and after refactoring, we assessed its impact on coupling, complexity, and cohesion. Key contributions of this research include a unique dataset for code smell classification and the development of models using AutoGluon for optimal performance. Furthermore, the study identifies the top 20 influential features in classifying feature envy, a well-known code smell, stemming from excessive reliance on external classes. We also explored how move method refactoring addresses feature envy, revealing reduced coupling and complexity, and improved cohesion, ultimately enhancing code quality. In summary, this research offers an empirical, data-driven approach, integrating AutoML and move method refactoring to optimize software project quality. Insights gained shed light on the benefits of refactoring on code quality and the significance of specific features in detecting feature envy. Future research can expand to explore additional refactoring techniques and a broader range of code metrics, advancing software engineering practices and standards.

Rapidly and remotely monitoring and receiving the solar cell systems status parameters, solar irradiance, temperature, and humidity, are critical issues in enhancement their efficiency. Hence, in the present article an improved smart prototype of internet of things (IoT) technique based on embedded system through NodeMCU ESP8266 (ESP-12E) was carried out experimentally. Three different regions at Egypt; Luxor, Cairo, and El-Beheira cities were chosen to study their solar irradiance profile, temperature, and humidity by the proposed IoT system. The monitoring data of solar irradiance, temperature, and humidity were live visualized directly by Ubidots through hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) protocol. The measured solar power radiation in Luxor, Cairo, and El-Beheira ranged between 216-1000, 245-958, and 187-692 W/m 2 respectively during the solar day. The accuracy and rapidity of obtaining monitoring results using the proposed IoT system made it a strong candidate for application in monitoring solar cell systems. On the other hand, the obtained solar power radiation results of the three considered regions strongly candidate Luxor and Cairo as suitable places to build up a solar cells system station rather than El-Beheira.

Over the past few years, the internet of things (IoT) has advanced to connect billions of smart devices to improve quality of life. However, anomalies or malicious intrusions pose several security loopholes, leading to performance degradation and threat to data security in IoT operations. Thereby, IoT security systems must keep an eye on and restrict unwanted events from occurring in the IoT network. Recently, various technical solutions based on machine learning (ML) models have been derived towards identifying and restricting unwanted events in IoT. However, most ML-based approaches are prone to miss-classification due to inappropriate feature selection. Additionally, most ML approaches applied to intrusion detection and prevention consider supervised learning, which requires a large amount of labeled data to be trained. Consequently, such complex datasets are impossible to source in a large network like IoT. To address this problem, this proposed study introduces an efficient learning mechanism to strengthen the IoT security aspects. The proposed algorithm incorporates supervised and unsupervised approaches to improve the learning models for intrusion detection and mitigation. Compared with the related works, the experimental outcome shows that the model performs well in a benchmark dataset. It accomplishes an improved detection accuracy of approximately 99.21%.
Developing a smart system for infant incubators using the internet of things ...IJECEIAES
This research is developing an incubator system that integrates the internet of things and artificial intelligence to improve care for premature babies. The system workflow starts with sensors that collect data from the incubator. Then, the data is sent in real-time to the internet of things (IoT) broker eclipse mosquito using the message queue telemetry transport (MQTT) protocol version 5.0. After that, the data is stored in a database for analysis using the long short-term memory network (LSTM) method and displayed in a web application using an application programming interface (API) service. Furthermore, the experimental results produce as many as 2,880 rows of data stored in the database. The correlation coefficient between the target attribute and other attributes ranges from 0.23 to 0.48. Next, several experiments were conducted to evaluate the model-predicted value on the test data. The best results are obtained using a two-layer LSTM configuration model, each with 60 neurons and a lookback setting 6. This model produces an R 2 value of 0.934, with a root mean square error (RMSE) value of 0.015 and a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.008. In addition, the R 2 value was also evaluated for each attribute used as input, with a result of values between 0.590 and 0.845.

Honey is produced exclusively by honeybees and stingless bees which both are well adapted to tropical and subtropical regions such as Malaysia. Stingless bees are known for producing small amounts of honey and are known for having a unique flavor profile. Problem identified that many stingless bees collapsed due to weather, temperature and environment. It is critical to understand the relationship between the production of stingless bee honey and environmental conditions to improve honey production. Thus, this paper presents a review on stingless bee's honey production and prediction modeling. About 54 previous research has been analyzed and compared in identifying the research gaps. A framework on modeling the prediction of stingless bee honey is derived. The result presents the comparison and analysis on the internet of things (IoT) monitoring systems, honey production estimation, convolution neural networks (CNNs), and automatic identification methods on bee species. It is identified based on image detection method the top best three efficiency presents CNN is at 98.67%, densely connected convolutional networks with YOLO v3 is 97.7%, and DenseNet201 convolutional networks 99.81%. This study is significant to assist the researcher in developing a model for predicting stingless honey produced by bee's output, which is important for a stable economy and food security.

The internet of things (IoT) is a revolutionary innovation in many aspects of our society including interactions, financial activity, and global security such as the military and battlefield internet. Due to the limited energy and processing capacity of network devices, security, energy consumption, compatibility, and device heterogeneity are the long-term IoT problems. As a result, energy and security are critical for data transmission across edge and IoT networks. Existing IoT interoperability techniques need more computation time, have unreliable authentication mechanisms that break easily, lose data easily, and have low confidentiality. In this paper, a key agreement protocol-based authentication mechanism for IoT devices is offered as a solution to this issue. This system makes use of information exchange, which must be secured to prevent access by unauthorized users. Using a compact contiki/cooja simulator, the performance and design of the suggested framework are validated. The simulation findings are evaluated based on detection of malicious nodes after 60 minutes of simulation. The suggested trust method, which is based on privacy access control, reduced packet loss ratio to 0.32%, consumed 0.39% power, and had the greatest average residual energy of 0.99 mJoules at 10 nodes.

In real world applications, data are subject to ambiguity due to several factors; fuzzy sets and fuzzy numbers propose a great tool to model such ambiguity. In case of hesitation, the complement of a membership value in fuzzy numbers can be different from the non-membership value, in which case we can model using intuitionistic fuzzy numbers as they provide flexibility by defining both a membership and a non-membership functions. In this article, we consider the intuitionistic fuzzy linear programming problem with intuitionistic polygonal fuzzy numbers, which is a generalization of the previous polygonal fuzzy numbers found in the literature. We present a modification of the simplex method that can be used to solve any general intuitionistic fuzzy linear programming problem after approximating the problem by an intuitionistic polygonal fuzzy number with n edges. This method is given in a simple tableau formulation, and then applied on numerical examples for clarity.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), seventy million individuals worldwide suffer from epilepsy, a neurological disorder. While electroencephalography (EEG) is crucial for diagnosing epilepsy and monitoring the brain activity of epilepsy patients, it requires a specialist to examine all EEG recordings to find epileptic behavior. This procedure needs an experienced doctor, and a precise epilepsy diagnosis is crucial for appropriate treatment. To identify epileptic seizures, this study employed a convolutional neural network (CNN) based on raw scalp EEG signals to discriminate between preictal, ictal, postictal, and interictal segments. The possibility of these characteristics is explored by examining how well timedomain signals work in the detection of epileptic signals using intracranial Freiburg Hospital (FH), scalp Children's Hospital Boston-Massachusetts Institute of Technology (CHB-MIT) databases, and Temple University Hospital (TUH) EEG. To test the viability of this approach, two types of experiments were carried out. Firstly, binary class classification (preictal, ictal, postictal each versus interictal) and four-class classification (interictal versus preictal versus ictal versus postictal). The average accuracy for stage detection using CHB-MIT database was 84.4%, while the Freiburg database's time-domain signals had an accuracy of 79.7% and the highest accuracy of 94.02% for classification in the TUH EEG database when comparing interictal stage to preictal stage.

Based on this, a combined algorithm for recognizing driving style is proposed. The generated data set is sent to the Kohonen network, where clustering is performed according to driving style and degree of danger. Getting the driving characteristics into a particular cluster allows you to switch to the private indicators of an individual driver and considering individual driving characteristics. The application of the method allows you to identify potentially dangerous driving styles that can prevent accidents.

Because of its spectral-spatial and temporal resolution of greater areas, hyperspectral imaging (HSI) has found widespread application in the field of object classification. The HSI is typically used to accurately determine an object's physical characteristics as well as to locate related objects with appropriate spectral fingerprints. As a result, the HSI has been extensively applied to object identification in several fields, including surveillance, agricultural monitoring, environmental research, and precision agriculture. However, because of their enormous size, objects require a lot of time to classify; for this reason, both spectral and spatial feature fusion have been completed. The existing classification strategy leads to increased misclassification, and the feature fusion method is unable to preserve semantic object inherent features; This study addresses the research difficulties by introducing a hybrid spectral-spatial fusion (HSSF) technique to minimize feature size while maintaining object intrinsic qualities; Lastly, a soft-margins kernel is proposed for multi-layer deep support vector machine (MLDSVM) to reduce misclassification. The standard Indian pines dataset is used for the experiment, and the outcome demonstrates that the HSSF-MLDSVM model performs substantially better in terms of accuracy and Kappa coefficient.

Optimizing system design significantly boosted power generation, promoted renewable energy utilization, and enhanced energy storage capacity. The study underscored the benefits of optimizing hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems for sustainable energy usage. Optimizing the design of solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems as examined across diverse climatic conditions in a developing country, not only enhances power generation but also improves the integration of renewable energy sources and boosts energy storage capacities, particularly beneficial for less economically prosperous regions. This paper proposes a fault diagnosis scheme applied to a wind turbine
system. The technique used is based on a modified sliding mode observer
(SMO), which permits the reconstruction of actuator and sensor faults.
A wind turbine benchmark with a real sequence of wind speed is exploited
to validate the proposed fault detection and diagnosis scheme. Rotor speed,
generator speed, blade pitch angle, and generator torque have different
orders of magnitude. As a result, the dedicated sensors are susceptible to
faults of quite varying magnitudes, and estimating simultaneous sensor
faults with accuracy using a classical SMO is difficult. To address this issue,
some modifications are made to the classic SMO. In order to test the
efficiency of the modified SMO, several sensor fault scenarios have been
simulated, first in the case of separate faults and then in the case of
simultaneous faults. The simulation results show that the sensor faults are
isolated, detected, and reconstructed accurately in the case of separate faults.
In the case of simultaneous faults, with the proposed modification of SMO,
the faults are precisely isolated, detected, and reconstructed, even though
they have quite different amplitudes; thus, the relative gap does not exceed
0.08% for the generator speed sensor fault.

1. INTRODUCTION
In the last decade, the most rapidly expanding renewable energy sources are wind turbines, supplied
by an entirely arbitrary wind speed, operating in uncertain environments, nonlinear dynamics, and exposure
to considerable disturbances are key properties of these systems [1], [2]. Several recent studies have been
conducted to improve the power coefficient of wind turbines as well as electricity production, blade profile
and augmentation strategies using optimization approaches based on artificial intelligence (AI) have been
addressed [3], [4]. Notwithstanding the implementation of advanced technology in modern wind turbines, the
maintenance of these turbines is still long and costly, which influences their electricity production [5].
Odgaard et al. presented two wind turbine benchmark models (WTBMs) in 2009 [6] and 2013 [7],
the second model is more realistic. Several research papers have been published in fault detection and
isolation (FDI), and fault tolerant control (FTC) based on these WTBMs [8]–[11]. The main objective of an
FDI system is to raise an alarm when an abnormal operation occurs in the monitored process and to locate its

source. A widely studied methodology is the observer-based approach, which analyzes the residuals that
represent the difference between the actual and observer outputs of the monitored system [12], [13]. In this
paper, an observer class known as the sliding mode observer [14] is adopted. This observer class aims to
reconstruct the fault instead of examining the residual.
An unknown input proportional integral observer for decoupling the unknown input was established
in Sun [15], and an optimization of it is introduced to lessen the effects of sensor noise, the actuator faults of
the WTBM were also estimated using the suggested observer. A Kalman-like observer and support vector
machines-based FDI system were proposed in [16], [17]. Shi and Patton [18] proposed an observer based
active fault tolerant control (AFTC) approach. By modeling the wind turbine as a linear parameter varying
(LPV) model using linear matrix inequality linear matrix inequality (LMI), to evaluate the system states and
faults, an extended state observer was established. To examine some faults in wind turbines, a deep learning
fault detection and classification method based on the time series analysis method and convolutional neural
networks (CNN) is provided [19]. Changes in wind turbine blade vibration responses WTB can be used to
detect the presence of damage. Xu et al. [20] introduced a probabilistic analysis approach for wind turbine
damage detection.

disturbances and modeling uncertainties as well as their ability to estimate unknown inputs. SMOs have been
widely used for FDI [14], [21]–[24]. Using a Takagi-Sugeno SMO, the actuator parameter faults in the
WTBM were only partially identified and reconstructed [25], the reconstruction’s accuracy needs to be
improved because the method lacks robustness regarding model uncertainty. SMO is used by
Rahnavard et al. [26], [27] to address the fault detection (FD) of sensors and actuators in the WTBM.
In contrast to WTBM-based approaches that merely detect and isolate the fault without providing
any information on its magnitude, this paper proposes an FDI scheme that, in addition to faithfully
reconstructing the fault, provides the exact magnitude, making it exploitable in FTC schemes that require
knowledge of the fault magnitude. A modified fault estimation scheme based on the SMO is presented in this
paper, particularly to detect, isolate, and estimate the sensor faults of the WTBM. The proposed modification
is related to the discontinuous switching term of the observer, which allows an accurate reconstruction,
especially in the case of simultaneous faults. The aerodynamic torque is considered as an input, and the
MATLAB/Simulink environment is used to implement the simulations. The paper is structured as: section 2
briefly describes the WTBM, section 3 presents the fault estimation scheme along with modifications to the
SMO and numerical values of its parameters, section 4 addresses fault scenarios and simulation results, and
section 5 concludes the paper.
2. WIND TURBINE MODEL
The model considered is similar to the one studied in [7], it is a horizontal axis wind turbine with
three blades, Figure 1 depicts a system overview of this system. This benchmark model contains the
following subsystems: blade and pitch system, drive train, converter, and generator, the wind turbine’s
aerodynamic characteristics are strongly dependent on the blade pitch angles, the rotor speed, and the wind
speed, which is the driving force of the wind power system. The resulting aerodynamic torque is transmitted
from the rotor to the generator via the drive train, and at the output, the electrical energy is obtained from the
converter. Depending on the different operating requirements, a controller is set up to control the blade pitch
angles and the generator torque [28].
2.1. Blade and pitch subsystem
This block contains the aerodynamic model, blades, and pitch system. The aerodynamic torque is

The pitch system is a hydraulic system consisting of three identical actuators, each with an internal
controller, the actuator i adjusts the pitch angle βi(i=1, 2, 3) of the blades by rotating them. This subsystem

The drive train allows to transfer the aerodynamic torque to the generator to ensure a high speed of
rotation required by the generator, the model is built of a slow shaft and a fast shaft linked by a multiplier

3.2. Modifications for the observer
The outputs of the wind turbine have very different orders of magnitude 102

gain, whose value is roughly equal to the fault magnitude’s maximum value. The choice of κ changes
according to the considered output and its value must be chosen with precision by the designer. Therefore, in
the classical SMO structure, the parameter is taken as fixed, which introduces a limitation for the fault
reconstruction.
In fact, choosing a fixed κ does not allow for precise reconstruction of the faults of all the outputs;
thus, it is necessary to redefine κ to adapt to each output, which is impractical and a priori inaccessible in the
case where multiple faults affect multiple outputs at the same time. To remedy this problem, a modification

3.3. Observer design

4. SIMULATION RESULTS
4.1. Wind input
The wind speed profile adopted in the simulation shown in Figure 3 is highly random and issued
from a wind park’s real wind speed measurement [7]. The wind speed considered covers a range of 3-18 m/s,
which represents a good coverage of the normal operation of a wind turbine. Depending on the wind speed,
in the interval (3, 12.5 m/s) the power generated by the wind turbine will be optimized, the wind turbine will
be controlled to maintain a constant energy production in (12.5, 25 m/s), and if the speed exceeds
25 m/s the wind turbine will be parked in order to avoid any damage.

4.2. Sensor fault reconstruction
The objective is to reconstruct sensor faults, fact (t) is considered null in (11), four sensors are
implemented to measure generator speed (𝜔𝑔), rotor speed (𝜔𝑟), blade pitch angle (𝛽), and generator torque
(𝜏𝑔), for each sensor, a fault is proposed, in the last case, the faults are considered simultaneously, the
magnitude of the fault is chosen in a logical way according to the amplitude of the variable considered, and it
is noted that the fault profile is a priori unknown by the system. The sensor faults simulated in this paper are
the following:
Case 1: Figure 4 (fault case 1) shows the real and estimated faults of the generator torque sensor,
which starts at 100 s and ends at 255 s; this fault realizes a constant amplitude bias, the maximum real fault
amplitude is 400 N.m, this value represents 10% of the maximum value of the generator torque in the
considered interval, the obtained result shows that the reconstructed fault follows faithfully and accurately
the real fault.
Case 2: The generator speed sensor fault is reconstructed. It runs from 400 to 600 s as shown in
Figure 4 (fault case 2). It is an intermittent fault that realizes a constant amplitude bias with maximum
amplitude of 25 rad/s, which represents 32% of the maximum value of the generator speed in the considered
interval. The results of the simulation show that the fault is reconstructed accurately with a relative gap that
does not exceed 2.8%. However, At the moment of a sudden change in the real signal, an overflow is
observed for the reconstructed signal. It is also noted that when a fault occurs for the rotor speed sensor, a
perturbation appears in the signal reconstructed for the generator speed sensor fault, and vice versa, due to
the fact that the two quantities are coupled by (5) and (6).
Case 3: The rotor speed sensor fault is also simulated. It starts at 1,400 s and ends at 1,600 s as
shown in Figure 4 (fault case 3), and the fault amplitude is 0.2 rad/s, which is 20% of the maximum
measured rotor speed value. A part from the overshoot at the time of state change, and the disturbance in the
interval (400, 600 s) due to the fault in the rotor speed sensor which occurs in this interval, the rotor speed
sensor fault is reconstructed with good accuracy, the relative gap is: 2.5%.
Case 4: The fault profile of the pitch position sensor is shown in Figure 4 (fault case 4). Starting at
1,100 s and ending at 1,200 s, with a maximum amplitude of 0.8°. The real signal and their reconstructed
values are perfectly confused.
Case 5: In this case, the sensor faults are considered simultaneously. Figure 5 illustrates this
situation: the generator speed sensor and rotor speed sensor faults are considered between 400 and 600 s, the
generator torque sensor fault starts at 510 s and ends at 680 s, and the pitch position sensor fault is considered
between 520 and 650 s. The simulation results show that the generator torque sensor and pitch position
sensor faults are reconstructed accurately. The overshoot is still observed for the generator speed sensor and
rotor speed sensor faults; however, the relative gaps for these two faults are respectively evaluated at 0.08%
and 0.07%, which shows that the reconstruction accuracy is higher compared to the case of the faults
considered separately. This allows us to conclude that the effect of the modification brought to the observer,
already evoked in paragraph 3.2, is more significant in the case of simultaneous faults.

5. CONCLUSION
The wind turbine faults affecting the generator torque sensor, generator speed sensor, rotor speed
sensor, and pitch angle sensor result in non-optimal operation of the wind turbine system. In this paper, a
sliding mode observer with a modified switching term to fit the different magnitudes of the sensor faults is
implemented in order to reconstruct in real time the aforementioned faults. To validate the proposed
modification, five sensor fault scenarios are proposed. These scenarios illustrate two situations: in the first
one, the faults are considered individually, and in the second one, the faults are considered simultaneously.
Throughout the simulation, the switching term is taken to be of the same value even though the sensor faults
have quite different magnitudes. The results of the simulation show that the faults are detected, isolated, and
reconstructed with precision in the situation of the faults considered individually, except for the overshoot
observed for the generator speed and rotor speed sensor faults, which disappears in a very short time. In the
case of the simultaneous faults (case 5), the reconstruction is more precise and done without changing the
parameters of the SMO, which justifies the modification of the switching term proposed for this SMO.
