LLPs: bridge the gap between formal in-class learning and less formal, experiential learning.
High-Impact: LLPs are said to be “high-impact” b/c they broaden, deepen, and enhance learning by extending learning beyond the formal confines of the classroom and, importantly, b/c they support a smoother transition to college, particularly for students coming from underrepresented populations and more diverse backgrounds.
Association of American Colleges & Universities labeled LLPs a so-called “High-Impact Practice” because of their positive association with student learning and retention and because they have proven to do a particularly good job serving underrepresented populations. (Kuh, G., 2008)
