The Rendel Constitution was a 1953 review of Singapore's constitution led by British diplomat Sir George Rendel that advocated for limited self-government. It recommended transferring some political power to local people by renaming the Legislative Council to the Legislative Assembly, with all 25 members directly elected by the people. It also suggested the Legislative Assembly control less important areas like housing and education, while Britain maintain control over key areas like security, laws, finance and defense.
