The Scandinavian chronicles
Alejandra (host): Hi there! Welcome to another episode of Anglo-life specially The
Scandinavian Chronicles. Today we are gonna talk about the history and folklore of the
Vikings. On this occasion, we have the company of two special guests.
One of them is a well known historian who graduated from the University of Oslo.
Welcome Angie, how are you doing?
Angie (guest 1): Hello Alejandra and listeners, I’m doing great. Thank you very much
for inviting me. I'm very happy to be here.
Alejandra (host): Our other guest is an outstanding Magister Artium in History of
Religion graduated from the University of Copenhagen. Welcome Maria Fernanda, how
are you?
Maria Fernanda (guest 2): Hello Alejandra, Angie and everyone. I’m pretty good
actually. Thank you very much for the invitation. I’m really glad to be here with you.
Alejandra: Lately, my followers have been suggesting that we should talk about the most
important characters of Scandinavian history. For this reason we are gonna chatter about
the vikings.
So, we are gonna start with Angie. Well, Angie tells us something relevant about the
vikings? Who were they?
Angie: Okay, the vikings were a paramount tribe that conquered a lot of countries, they
came from an area called Scandinavia, and nowadays we are known as Norway, Sweden
and Denmark. They were known as great sailors, warriors and conquerors. For example,
around the late 700 and beginning of 800, the vikings started to invade different parts of
Europe, they built their own ships, with special materials that made them unique, and
enabled them to access different coastlines.
Alejandra: Mmmm, that was wonderful, they were a powerful tribe. So, we can continue
with Maria Fernanda. In a folklorical context, what do you have to put in the picture?
Mafe: One important thing in those people is their mythologie, and in this case Norse.
This belief was the most predominant before christianism became the prevailing religion,
and it was used by believers to help organize and understand the world. It’s for that that
they became very devoted to their gods. For example, Thor “the god of thunder” and
Loki considered the god of fire who had the ability to change his shape into different
animals, they were Odin’s children, who was the supreme deity.
Alejandra: Ohhh Mafe, that was awesome, I really got engaged with your chronicle.
I’m so grateful to you girls for sharing a little bit of the amazing vikings’ world. Thank
you to our audience. It has been a pleasure.
Angie: The pleasure was mine. It’s a fascinating tribe, It has contributed so much to our
development. See you soon!
Mafe: Good bye, I have deeply enjoyed sharing this time with you talking about this
aspect of Scandinavian history that I find so captivating. I look forward to sharing with
you in another time.
Alejandra: Finally, remember to follow me on my youtube channel and instagram
account as anglolife22. So, keep up with me in the next episode.
