Screencasting
Alex Zirkelbach
What is
Screencasting?
● Screencasting is a feature that
takes media from a smaller device
and displays it onto another
device.
● The feature is commonly used for
screencasting a smartphone to a
TV.
Why should you use
Screencasting?
● How often do you interact with any
kind of media on your phone, and
wish it could be on a larger screen
like your TV?
● What media can be used with
screencasting?
○ Videos
○ Photos
What will you need for
Screencasting?
● Do you use an iPhone or Android
Smartphone?
● AirPlay is a screencasting feature
exclusive to Apple products such as
iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers.
● If AirPlay is not a built-in feature for
your TV, then an Apple TV is
required to screencast to your TV
from an Apple device.
What will you need for
Screencasting?
● Smart View is a screencasting
feature exclusive to Android
smartphones.
● If Chromecast is not built-in to your
TV, then a Google Chromecast is
required to screencast to your TV
from an Android smartphone with
Smart View.
Chromecast is not
exclusive to Android
smartphones
● While AirPlay is a screencasting
feature exclusive to Apple devices,
Chromecast is a screencasting
feature that can be used on any
device.
● Smart View is still an exclusive
feature to Android smartphones, but
more general apps that also use
Chromecast can be used on an
Apple device.
● There is a broad variety of apps
available on smartphones that can
screencast to other devices
● Google Home is one of the more
useful and common apps that uses
screencasting.
● I note it as a more useful app
because it allows you to mirror your
phone, which makes anything
displayed on your phone, displayed
on the device you are casting to.
Example of
Screencasting with
Google Home
1. Download the Google Home app
Example of Screencasting with Google Home
2. Add a device to your Google Home

3. Choose a Room for your Device 4. Select the device, then Cast my screen
Example of Screencasting with Google Home
5. Navigate to whatever you want to be displayed on the other device.
Activity
● What media do you interact with
on your smartphone, tablet, or
laptop?
● Is that media able to work with
screencast?
● Not all media is compatible with
screencasting.
Will you use
Screencasting?
