The Scout Movement is a voluntary educational movement for young people open to all regardless of race or creed. The first scouting organizations in Indonesia were founded in 1916. Indonesia became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1953. Pramuka and Hizbul Wathan are two of the main scouting movements in Indonesia. Pramuka aims to unite all Scout organizations and is open to all religions, while Hizbul Wathan is specifically for Muslim youth affiliated with Muhammadiyah schools. The movements have some differences in principles, uniforms, and oaths.

purpose, principles and method conceived by
its founder Robert Baden-Powell

3. THE FIRST SCOUT MOVEMENT IN INDONESIA
The first scouting organizations in
Indonesia are Javaansche Padvinders Organisati
e and was founded by SP Mangkunegara VII in
1916. then in 1920 a lot
of the scouting movement founded, for
example Hizbul watan, Padvinderij Nationale,
etc.

of several scouting movement in Indonesia, When
Indonesia became an independent country, there were
more than 60 separateBoy Scout and Girl Guide
organizations. Most were directly affiliated with some
certain political parties or social groups. Attempts were
made to unify all Scout organizations into one. on
august, 14th 1961 ( Anniversary of Pramuka )
• Its name Pramuka was derived from the abbreviation of
"praja muda karana", meaning "young people willing to
work".

MUHAMMADIYAH,
• HW one of the first Scout movement in Indonesia, Hizbul
Wathan was also dissolved and merged with
the scouts. but in 1999 because period
of reformation Hizbul Wathan was resurrected on
18 November 1999
• Hizbul Wathan name means defender of the homeland
• Hizbul Wathan emblem is jasmine underneath the words
"fastabiqu Khoirot“
