MICROWAVE
MICROWAVE
MICROWAVES ARE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES WITH
WAVELENGTHS LONGER THAN THOSE OF TERAHERTZ
(THZ) WAVELENGTHS, BUT RELATIVELY SHORT FOR RADIO
WAVES.
ROBERT WILSON
ANDARNOLD PENZIAS
In 1965, the scientists
discovered the cosmic
microwave background
radiation. This radiation, which
fills the entire Universe, is
believed to be a clue to its
beginning, something known as
the Big Bang.
PERRY SPENCER
In 1945, Percy Spencer was
experimenting with a new vacuum
tube called a magnetron while doing
research for the Raytheon
Corporation. He was intrigued when
the candy bar in his pocket began to
melt, so he tried another experiment
with popcorn. When it began to pop,
Spencer immediately saw the potential
in this revolutionary process. In 1947,
Raytheon built the first microwave
•The frequency of microwaves typically ranges
from 3x10⁹ to 3 x 10¹¹ Hertz (Hz).
•The wavelength of microwaves is approximately
1x10^-3
•To 1x10^-1 meters (m).
•The photon energy of microwaves it ranges
from about
USES OF MICROWAVES
-Used in radar (weather forecast, military target
tracking)
-Transmitting info such as data or telephone
calls
-Cooking, drying, heating
-Direct broadcast satellite television
APPLICATIONS OF
MICROWAVE
SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS
It creates a communication channel between
a source transmitter and a receiver at
different locations on Earth.
SATELLITE COMMUNICATION
-Antenna
Receive the microwave signal
-Satellite
Amplifies the received microwave
signal
-Microwave Signal
To be emitted by the source
Other Satellites
Re-transmission of the amplified
microwave signal
RADAR
A system for detection by sending out
pulses of high-frequency electromagnetic
waves that are reflected off the object back
to the source
RADAR(RADIO DETECTION
AND RANGING)
-TRANSMITTER
Sends the microwave signal
-Object
Such as ships, planes, metals, etc. to
be detected
-Antenna
Scans the surrounding
-Receiver
Detects the signal reflected by the
APPLICATIONS OF
MICROWAVE
TERRESTRIAL COMMUNICATION
A communication system within the
geographical area
and with extremely large communication
channels being
made available.
TERRESTRIAL
COMMUNICATION
-STATIONS
Receives the microwave signals from
MVBS
-SATELLITE
Send the microwave signals from the
station
-MOBILE BROADCAST VEHICLE
Recipient of the microwave signals
aired live
-OTHER SATELLITE
MICROWAVE OVEN
A device that heats and cooks food by
exposing in an electromagnetic radiation in
the microwave frequency range.
MICROWAVE OVEN
The microwaves are
produced by electron tube
called magnetron. The
microwaves are reflected
within the metal interior of
the oven that are absorbed
by the food.
Microwaves are most
commonly used in
satellite
communications, radar
signals, phones, and
navigational
applications. Other
applications where
microwaves used are
medical treatments,
drying materials, and in
QUESTION

C. Traditional oven
3. This type of EM wave can penetrate the atmosphere of the
earth and is the reason why being used in satellite
communication.
A. Radio wave
C. Infrared
B. Microwave
D. Gamma ray
4. This depends on overlapping network of cells or areas of land
several kilometers in diameter.
A. Antenna
B. Amplifier
