ccScan Advanced for DropBox is best explained with some examples: run unattended jobs to import electronic faxes, upload them to automatically selected DropBox folders, and automatically name the document, all based on information extracted from barcodes and text pattern searches in text obtained through OCR. Or scan documents and automatically create document names and descriptions. Since ccScan is highly configurable it can be applied to many scenarios where opportunities for automation and large time savings are present.
ccScan Advanced features are based upon sophisticated technologies such as barcode detection, OCR, and Text Pattern search with Regular Expressions. These capabilities are applied to both the scanning of paper documents in the paper-based office and the processing of electronic documents in the paperless office.
ccScan Standard for DropBox is similar to ccScan Advanced without the automation capabilities. ccScan Standard is typically used in a paper-based office to efficiently scan paper documents to DropBox. Use ccScan Standard to eliminate wasted time and the following extra steps: scan a document to your PC using any Twain scanner, name the document, create a folder in DropBox, upload the document to DropBox, and finally setting up DropBox document properties such as Description, Visibility, and Sharing mode. Instead, ccScan Standard does all of the above in a single-step operation.

Running Spark In Production in the Cloud is Not Easy with Nayur KhanDatabricks
Apache Spark is the engine powering many data-driven use cases, from data engineering to data science and machine learning applications. At QuantumBlack, Spark is considered a key technology and used in a number of client engagements, from a Data Engineering, Data Science and Platform Engineering point of view. This talk will be around the lessons learned after running successfully Apache Spark workloads in production in the cloud for a number of years. As public cloud adoption grows in the enterprise, more and more organizations are choosing to run Apache Spark workloads on cloud infrastructure. While the cloud presents many benefits, there are a number of challenges that aren’t obvious until you start and require sometimes different approaches or thinking.
This talk will look into a few different areas, starting with the Jigsaw pieces you face with Open Source software, balancing a platform for stability along with allowing innovation. The talk will then look at approaches used to combat the not so obvious challenges and trade-offs of using cloud scalable storage backends for storing/retrieving data. Finally, there’ll be a section on the considerations needed for reliability and manageability of robust analytic pipelines.
Containers allow multiple isolated user space instances to run on a single host operating system. Containers are seen as less flexible than virtual machines since they generally can only run the same operating system as the host. Docker adds an application deployment engine on top of a container execution environment. Docker aims to provide a lightweight way to model applications and a fast development lifecycle by reducing the time between code writing and deployment. Docker has components like the client/server, images used to create containers, and public/private registries for storing images.

All Things Containers - Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Istio, GitOps and moreAll Things Open
Presented by: Brent Laster, SAS
Presented at All Things Open 2020
Abstract: In this workshop, students will get a quick overview of what containers are and why they form the basis for many of the key technologies that we use today in cloud environments.
We’ll explore what makes up a container and how they are managed and leveraged in key industry tooling including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and Istio. You’ll also learn the basics of these technologies, what they are used for, and see some simple examples of how to use them.
This workshop will include hands-on labs where you will get experience:
Building container images, running them as containers, and tagging and pushing them into a Docker repository.
Creating deployments, services, and pods for containers and instantiating and running those in Kubernetes.
Working with Helm to leverage templates for Kubernetes objects and managing releases in Kubernetes.
Working with Istio to do traffic shaping between multiple versions of your app, fault and delay injection for testing and validation in Kubernetes.
We’ll also briefly cover GitOps – the recommended Git-based way to manage infrastructure like your Kubernetes cluster.
The Future of Web Application ArchitecturesLucas Carlson
This document discusses emerging trends in web application architectures and how Docker and microservices are shaping the future. It begins with an introduction to the author and then covers:
1) How architectures are shifting from monolithic backends to distributed, share-nothing systems.
2) The benefits of microservices architectures that use REST APIs and other techniques like asset hosting, session management, and asynchronous processing.
3) How Docker and containers allow applications to be packaged and distributed more easily while maintaining consistency across environments.
The document concludes that automation, containers, and microservices are dominating future web application architectures.

In this deck from the Docker Workshop at ISC 2015, Andreas Schmidt from Cassini Consulting describes Docker in a Nutshell
"As the newest flavor of Linux Containers, Docker gained a lot of momentum in the last 12 months. With a very convenient and open API-driven architecture Docker is able to help decrease the complexity of operations and increase the productivity of computation. During the last two years Andreas, Christian, and Wolfgang gained a lot of experience with Docker and were thrilled by its possible impact early on. Andreas started working with Docker in mid-2013 and is interested in developing tools for solving Enterprise IT requirements on networking and security. In 2014 he held talks and workshops about these topics. Christian started using Docker in 2013 to virtualize a complete HPC cluster stack and since then held multiple talks about how Docker might impact HPC. Wolfgang and his partner Burak Yenier introduced Docker as a corner-stone of the UberCloud Marketplace to drastically improve and simplify access to HPC cloud resources. UberCloud just announced their new containers for computational fluid dynamics software like Fluent, STAR-CCM+ and OpenFOAM."
