Time: 7:30pm
Please attend our meeting regarding the closure of The Pumphouse Educational
Museum at Lavender Pond in Rotherhithe
The Pumphouse Educational Trust at The Pumphouse Educational Centre will cease at the end of
September 2011, as they received no funding from Southwark Council
No “core” funding for the Pumphouse Educational Centre at Lavender Pond and Nature Reserve was
allocated by Southwark Council for 2011 - 2012, attempts have been made to secure its future as an
excellent educational and community facility but without success
Services for schools, families, older people with dementia related illness, nursing homes, care staff,
walking groups, special interest groups and local community will end in order to organise closure
The invaluable service the Museum provides on bringing local history to life is simply outstanding. The
wildlife garden supports enquiry and investigation in Science; the archive of resources and artefacts is
second to none. The workshops that Caroline Marais and her team provide are always appropriate and
stimulating. We are devastated to hear that we are losing this excellent well-loved resource
Sunday 12th June - 2pm.
The Pumphouse Educational Centre at Lavender Pond and Nature Reserve would like to also invite
you all to a celebration of 20 years’ service to the community when the Southwark Council Blue
Plaque Award (as voted by the people of Southwark) for ‘Outstanding Services to Schools, Youth
and Older People from 1989’ will be unveiled. This celebration will take place with music and
refreshments & Face Painting on Sunday 12th June at 2pm.
