Difference Between Starbucks And Tata
Process of Negotiation
The negotiation between Starbucks and Tata began in January 2011, this carried on for a period of
one year where they both discussed the terms and conditions of the agreement. During the period of
the negotiation, both the parties had discussed their interests.
The Government of India at that time had loosened the regulations where foreign single brand
companies could start investing in India, but, despite the norms being more relaxed, Starbucks had
decided to use other ways of entering into India. Starbucks had met up with Tata Global Beverages
whereby they had both discussed their interests to enter into a partnership to operate Starbucks in
India. Starbucks had considered a partnership with Tata because they knew ... Show more content

For Starbucks this was a good thing for them because in this way, they get access to the high quality
Arabica coffee beans produced by Tata with in India itself and at the same time they also cut down
on import costs. As for Tata they get an opportunity with Starbucks to invest jointly on other
additional facilities to export to other potential foreign markets.
Starbucks and Tata had also negotiated on the location for the outlets, Starbucks partnership with
Tata means tapping into prime location. However, Tata Global Beverages Ltd. had to discuss this
further with the Tata Group and finally settled that Starbucks outlets would be opened in the Tata
properties such as the Taj chain of Hotels which were in prime locations across the country, but the
relationship with the other Tata Group brands are kept at arms length and rent will have to be paid
for using the property.
Starbucks and Tata had also decided that Starbucks would provide new technologies to the coffee
growing communities that helps in the promotion of responsible practices of agronomy with in

Sex Offender Notification System
Since 1994 nationwide laws have been put into an effect nationwide asking for those convicted
of a sexual crime be placed on a registered list. In the 20 years since its implementation, the
registry has added several caveats such as a tier based registry where the violent offenders were
kept at a higher more prominent level. As well as public notice every few months of an offender
relocating or living in your area. While some low levels offenders must relinquish 15 years of their
life notifying the public and remaining on this list, those on the higher tier of the list must
reregister more often and for the rest of their lives. While on the surface it would seem that having
such a list, coupled with a lifetime of notification to residents in... Show more content on

Since it s their enactment however some states have seen a dramatic increase in sex offenders
whether due to the expansion of the definition of a sexual crime, or the reclassification of some
convicts as a result of this law. An example of this would be prior to the law if a teenager was
tried as an adult in their state, served time but under the state s legislature was not required to
register as an offender. Under the current law, there is a possibility this teenager will have to
register for the rest of their life every 3 months. Failure to do so may result in a felony charge or
possible life sentence. If they were to go to college they would need to reregister with the state they
reside in as well as their home state, and would likely also be rejected for federal aid as the
classification may have already pegged him as a convicted

Harry Erskine Series Essay
The Harry Erskine series is a set of novels by renowned British horror novelist Graham
Masterton. Given that Graham dabs in so many other genres and has many other series under
his belt, the publication of the six novels in the series has been sporadic. That being said the bulk
of the novels have been published between 1976 and 2009. The lead character in the series is the
self styled psychic Harry Erskine. When we first come across the enigmatic Erskine, he is a
shaman earning his living through providing psychic reading to an assortment of old rich ladies in
New York City. Nonetheless, given the high demand for his services, he frequently travels to other
cities on the Eastern seaboard such as Miami. Harry Erskine had been skeptical of the... Show more

powerful Native American Medicine Men who ever lived who makes his first appearance in the
first novel, The Manitou. An ancient Arabian genie is the main antagonist in the Djinn, the
second novel of the series. The Harry Erskine series of novels has variously been described as
one of the best fiction novels that you could ever read. Masterton creates a brilliant supernatural
threat, lovable, memorable characters, and fantastic pacing that provides an ever increasing sense
of dread. The novels provide some good descriptions where you just need them and are vague
enough to leave you in suspense, which is what you would want from a horror novel. The
antagonist Misquamacus is a frightening though vague figure that has the power to conjure the
most frightening of North American demons. With such a formidable foe, you are left wondering
if Harry Erskine and his sidekick could ever learn enough, to stop the

Mcdonald s and Hotels
McDonald s Hotels
Written Case Analysis
By
Sean Bibbey
SWOT Analysis
External Environment
The external environment of the hotel industry in is very competitive and already well established.
Trends in the market include promotional campaigns to customers using the more bang for your
buck, method. There are several different segments of the hotel industry including: luxury, upscale,
mid market with food and beverage, mid market without food and beverage, economy, and budget.
Each different segment offers certain amenities to appeal to consumers depending on what they are
looking for in an over night stay away from home. As McDonald s looks at entering the hotel
industry they have looked at several important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, McDonald s could create a totally brand name driven hotel enterprise by using the same
type of direction Disney did when they created their own cruise line. Strategy Recommendations
General Recommendations
McDonald s should use their brand name to create a McDonald s experience in the hotel industry
just like Disney did with cruises. They should also incorporate their food service experience with
their hotels and create new menus for them just like they do when they enter a new country.
Specific Recommendations
McDonald s should enter the mid market with food and beverage segment. In this segment they
can take advantage of what they already know in the food service industry while avoiding the
high cost and inexperience of luxury accommodations. These hotels should be directed at
children and families. They could incorporate the McDonald s Play Place and other fun activity
rooms like arcades or maybe something more adult like a game room with pool tables and
electronic darts. Using a more family oriented direction will also allow them to avoid the high cost
of liquor licenses and trying to compete with something that is already being done.
Rationale behind Recommendations
If McDonald s wants to take part in the hotel industry using the strength of their brand name it is
important that they differentiate themselves from all the other hotel chains. If

English as The Official Language of the United States Essay
The debate of instituting English as the official language in the United States is a debate that has
been going on for centuries. Many people believe that English should be the official language
because we are American, and Americans speak English. However, many of those people fail to
realize that we all come from different heritages and corners of the world. Language should be an
art of expression, one where people of all heritages and backgrounds can speak in the language that
they have learned. Implementing English as the official language in the United Stateswould be to
essentially ignore and disrespect all of the heritages, nationalities, and religions that make the United
States a unique place to live. The United States is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tactic is effective because not only are the students getting used to the language, but, they are
not being forced to speak English regularly. They can speak whatever language they like around
their friends or family, but when it comes down to business, they better know how to use the
English language.
Many people in the United States have a sense of comfort with their own culture and language to
the point where they will not abandon those things in order to pick up a new language and
lifestyle. In the article named, Why and When We Speak Spanish in Public, written by Myriam
Marquez, she explains how her family continues to use the Spanish in public in the United States,
even though they have lived in the United States for over 40 years. Marquez explains, For me
and most of the bilingual people I know, it s a matter of respect for our parents and comfort in our
cultural roots (542). People are simply not going to change who they are and where they come from
just so they can conform to the normal population of the United States. For the most part, people
who come the United States are happy that the country has not implemented a national language
law because the people who come here can

Symbolic Ethnicity Essay
Symbolic ethnicity is a term coined by Herbert Gans. It refers to ethnicity that is individualistic in
nature and without real social cost for the individual. These symbolic identifications are essentially
leisure time activities, rooted in nuclear family traditions reinforced by voluntary enjoyable
aspects of being ethnic (Gans 424 429). Symbolic ethnicity is practiced and enjoyed by white
Americans. It is a way for descendants of white Europeans to learn about and be proud of their
heritage. That is not the case for non whites who are grouped together by the white majority making
ethnic identity difficult . This type of ethnicity is rooted in immigrants of European descent. It
could be the Feast of Saint Anthony or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a situation where Caribbean blacks who are steeped in heritage are typically unable to
partake in their own ethnic celebrations like their white counterparts. When Caribbean blacks
arrive in America, they attempt to distance themselves from the American black (Ogbu, J.U. 425
429). When a black group attempts to celebrate its heritage, other groups march in order to disrupt
these types of celebrations. Every time a black organization wants to march or celebrate, the KKK
or other white supremacist group alternatively marches to cause conflict. When this type of
celebration does take place, it is typically limited locally to black neighborhoods with no media
coverage. Asians are treated in a similar fashion being grouped together as one nation. There are
Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean and Cambodian to name a few. These people when
assimilated into American culture become one group, Asian, which in many cases offers no
opportunity to express their own national heritage or culture in America. Grouping of these
minorities puts all blacks whether American or otherwise and Asians under the same umbrella and
therefore dealing with the same stereotypes. These images

Analysis Of Etgar Keret sWhat Of This Goldfish Would You...
It is usually a challenge to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. Ordinarily, one has to
consider one s values as well as preferred consequences in order to make the better or best choice.
In the short story, What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish? by Etgar Keret, Sergei Goralick faced
a similar conundrum. As an aloof Russian expatriate fisherman in Jaffa, Israel, his only company is
a magic three wishgranting fish. But having impulsively murdered Yonatan, Goralick had to
decide whether to use his last wish to save the boy or keep his magic goldfish companion.
Though he would have preferred the latter, Goralick made the better choice saving Yonatan as it
matches his established humaneness and the consequences attached were more reasonable.
Before he arrived at this decision, Gorelick considered covering up the murder to keep the fish.
He said, Fixable... I ll just mop up the blood... When I m fishing,...I ll tie the kid to a rock and
dump him in the sea. Not a chance, not in a million years, will anyone ever find him. ( lines 164
171) His stubbornness started surfacing, obstructing his sound reasoning. Goralick tried to find
excuses in order not to use his last wish. For example, he said that he was saving it for something
important.Goralick was ambivalent.Whilst suggesting this, he forgot how scared he was to even
touch Yonatan s blood(lines 124 127). That along with his statement, He can t be dead (110 113)
proves that had he chosen otherwise, Goralick would have suffered from guilt. In fact, even the
goldfish asserted, You killed him, Sergei, ... but you re not a murderer. ... If, on this, you won t
waste a wish, then tell me, Sergei, what is it good for? Though what immediately happened after
this question was skipped, one can infer that Sergei thought thoroughly during that time. He
rightfully chose to save Yonatan. His actions such the uses of his first two wishes reveal his
character traits.
When he heard of the critical conditions of his sister and Sveta s boy respectively, he did not
hesitate to use his first two wishes to save them respectively. His sister had a fatal lung cancer; The
fish undid it in an instant the words barely out of Sergei s mouth. .(lines 135 137) And

Chewing Gum Should Be Allowed In School
How many times have you been asked to spit out your gum in class? Countless, I bet. Most
teachers at Episcopal abide by the policy that gum chewing in class is not allowed. They say it s
inconsiderate. They say it s distracting. They say it has no place in the classroom. These teachers,
however, are overlooking the countless benefits of gum chewing. Chewing gumin class can help
students stay focused, can help students stay active, and can help students perform betteroverall.
Banning gum in school more often than not can cause more harm than good. Gum chewing should
be allowed in class.
Sitting in five classes a day for times ranging from 55 to 70 minutes, it is a battle of the will to
stay on task. Whether distracted by the middle schoolers playing, carefree, on the green or the
clicking of someone s pen, it takes true willpower to not shift focus. What if there was a simple way
to help students with this? It turns out, there is: gum. Kate Morgan, the author of a gum chewing
study in British Journal of Psychology, proved that Interestingly participants who didn t chew gum
performed slightly better at the beginning of the task but were overtaken by the end. This suggests
that chewing gum helps us focus on tasks that require continuous monitoring over a longer amount
of time. It is a true enigma that despite scientific results, Episcopal still bans chewing gum in
school. This year, a plethora of students have aimlessly drifted through never ending science and

Reflective Essay On Professionalism
Professionalism can be defined as the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a
profession or a professional person. (Merriam webster) My interpretation of this definition is that
professionalism is a standard that we must hold ourselves accountable to in order to provide the
best service. How do we get from a basic understandingof this definition, to practicing and applying
professionalism? Major attributes that lead to professionalism can include accountability,
communication and reflective practice. Reflective practice in the healthcare system is when
practitioners engage in a continuous cycle of self observation and self evaluation in order to
understand their own actions and the reactions they prompt in themselves (becoming a better
university teacher...). In the day to day life, everyone performs a type of reflection whether it is by
unconscious thought or by habit. When it is unintentional it is hard to learn and grow from the
knowledgethat can potentially be gained. Therefore we need to find a way to effectively
incorporate reflective practice into our daily lives, especially as radiation therapystudents.
There is a simple three step framework for practical, structured reflection by Dr. Natius Oelofsen
that really stood out to me. Reflective practice should not be complicated or time consuming or
else it will not be done efficiently or effectively. We need reflective practice to become habit during
our school years in order for it to be

In 2003, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) released a campaign called

Isaac Bashevis Singer, who wrote: In relation to them [animals], all people are Nazis; for them it

ethically wrong. The mass murder of millions in a catastrophic historical event should not be
appropriated as a tool to gain support for an organization s agenda. The comparison is disgustingly
insensitive and takes advantage of others suffering to make a statement. PETA should utilize a
different strategy to convey their message. The CEO of PETA will receive better press, and the

The Greek Parthenon vs the Roman Pantheon Essay
The Greek Parthenon vs the Roman Pantheon
Imagine asking a five year old to draw a picture of a house. A native Floridian probably wouldn t
draw the typical split plan design with a tile roof and a screened in lanai. The extent of the child s
artistic ability would probably consist of a box with a triangle on top of it. As fundamental as it
sounds, the use of this structure has a long history dating back to ancient Greece. The classical
Greek temple, the Parthenon, made use of this design and influenced (the still rather different)
Roman Pantheon.
These buildings are excellent examples of how architectural style reflects the culture of its creators
and studying their relationship highlights how the ancient Mediterranean world ... Show more

The Parthenon was made entirely out of marble, but it was either cheaply made or the technology
was not advanced enough to make it smooth and time resistant. Today, the temple lies in ruins. The
foundation and many of the columns still stand, but the roof and carved designs are all but missing.
The Pantheon, built in Rome around AD 126, is in great condition yet today. More massive than
the Parthenon, the exterior of the Pantheon still looks smoother. The eight Corinthian columns that
line the front entrance are not as intrusive as the Doric columns of ancient Greece. They are thinner
and ornately decorated. Also, the Pantheon gains its giant size because of its high walls, not by
resting its foundation on a mountainous staircase. Again, this makes the temple more delicate than
the Parthenon and this difference also infers that the Romans felt much more secure from the
dangers of invasion. Unlike the Parthenon that was destroyed by enemies, the Pantheon still stands
content. Continuing inside, the walls of the Pantheon are intrinsically a genius of splendor. They
are decorated with ornate designs of Corinthian columns and mock windows. The beauty of the
three dimensional wall fixtures is exemplified by sunlight let in by the large oculus at its zenith.
Although the Parthenon has not survived time, its design has greatly affected our modern world.
The children s design mentioned earlier

The disease spread through eight districts in the Chinese and Mongol dynasties. The deaths were
so severe that some areas didn t even have time to bury all the bodies, so they just stacked them
up against the city walls. Next, the plague spread to Europe, it arrived in Europe through trading
ships. By the time the ships landed in Messina. Most of the crew members on the ships were
either dead or infected. The abandon ships peaked a lot of interest and since the ships were
infested with rodents, the locals that looted from the ships helped the disease spread even
further. By 1348 the disease spread all the way to Genoa and Venice. Then the disease went from
Italy and spread northwest France, Spain, Portugal, and England by June 1348. This is a rapid
spread rate since six countries in less than a year. Although the disease was not yet done with
Europe, it then spread east through Germany and Scandinavia through 1350. The last stop in
Europe was Russia in 1351. The last stop for the Black Plague was the Middle East. The
outbreak in the Middle East led to serious depopulation and economic structures just like the other
countries. When the disease reached Mecca, the people of Mecca tried to blame it on non

have even been isolated cases as recent as 1980 (Black Death). The Black Plague had many

Electroconvulsive therapy consists of an electrical shock, which is used to produce a seizure.
Many people experience seizures due to some other type of illness or illnesses, and in these cases
there is medicine taken in order to prevent these occurrences. In deciding my opinion on the topic
of ECT I asked myself would I want to put myself or a loved one through what others are trying

Prior to the actual treatment, the patient is given general anesthesia and a muscle relaxant.
Electrodes are then attached to the patient s scalp and an electric current is applied which causes a
brief convulsion. Minutes later, the patient awakens confused and without memory of events
surrounding the treatment. This treatment is usually repeated three times a week for two to four
weeks. The number of treatments varies from six to twelve. It is often recommended that the
patient maintain a limited intake of medication, after the ECT treatments, to reduce the chance of
relapse.
Electroconvulsive therapy is a very controversial issue.
Much of the controversy surrounding this topic revolves around its effectiveness vs. the side
effects, and the recent increase in ECT as a quick and easy solution, instead of long term
psychotherapy or hospitalization. Because of the concern about permanent memory loss and
confusion related to ECT treatment, some researchers recommend that the treatment only be used
as a last resort. It is also unclear whether or not ECT is effective. However, other studies indicate
that the relapse rate is high, even for patients who take medication after ECT. Some researchers
insist that no study proves that ECT is effective for more than four weeks.
The side effects were also what strongly aided in helping

17th century .Shockingly these sports are still around today and are still being played all over the
world. Most of these sports that were enjoyed and loved by people prior to now are basically the
same. Sports will always be enjoyed and are a good form of enter tainment to people all around the
globe.
By the 16th Century Calcia Fiorentino is an early form of football that orginated in Italy. The sport
was played in the Piazza Santa Croc Which was there football stadium and there where hundreds
of people could watch. Mostly Calcia was reserved for the rich and it would be played every
night from Janurary 6 March 24. The game was played on a field of sand quite diffrent from
today s matches and was played for 50 mintues. Goals were scored by throwing the football over
the netting on the oppenents side of the field and the winning teams were the team who had the
most goals scored. There was 1 main refferee and 1 field master watching the game. Both Teams
were very competitive and the people enjoyed it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Marshfield Fair Reflection
My 4 H story starts at the Marshfield Fair. I used to visit the fair every year, and dreamed about
having an animal like the big kids . Then, as I got older, I stopped visiting the fair. The idea
slowly faded from my mind. Then, when I was in fifth grade, ne of my friends came in wearing a
shirt that had the 4 Hclover on it. When I asked her about it, she explained that 4 H members are
the kids who bring the animals to the Marshfield Fair. I instantly knew that I wanted to join 4
H.So when I was 12, I joined the Muddy Buddy swine club. Ever since that first meeting, I realized
that 4 H is my niche. I was never really into sports. I tried everything from soccer to basketball, but

So far, I have started to meet my goals. part of my goal of placing well at the Marshfield Fair has

can now identify more breeds and diseases that I could not before. If I were to try my project
again, I would have spent even more time training my pig to trust me as the bond is good now
but could be stronger. Through my pig project, I have developed more independence. I can solve
my own problems with the pigs nw. I have also gained more intelligence and communication
skills after teaching the public during Weir River Farm visiting hour. I have also developed a
skill of training pigs as my pig cooperates now more than my pig from last year. A few people in
particular have helped me to become successful this year. First, Meg Connolly has helped to
teach and take care of my pig. Also, Dean Powers and Ava Barzowski have taught me more about
swine and livestock. Finally, Jenn Moyer has helped me as being my leader and helping with the

Potential Life Savers Essay
Just about everyone in the world today knows either a loved one or a friend that is dying of a fatal

knowledge or the lack of treatment for their disease. Imagine if there was a cure or an answer to
save your loved ones or friends life, wouldn t you want to give them a second chance at living
life? In the recent scientific world there has been research done on stem cells. Stem cells are

Yet if scientists would be able to receive federal funding then social and ethical issues could be
monitored. The practices in which researchers are using in order to obtain new information would
have to be consistent with the moral values and legal requirements of Americans.
Recently there have been significant advances in the world of stem cell research through lab
testing. In the beginning days of research, stem cells were obtained from aborted embryos. Even
though receiving the cells from embryos is more efficient, controversy through the ideas of
obtaining the stem cells has occurred. Some arguments have supported the idea saying that the
fetuses are no longer living anyways; why not donate them to scientific research. In order to relieve
the controversy of using aborted fetuses there have been new studies done on adult stem cells
through lab testing on mouse embryos. In an article, Adult Stem Cell Study Promising, scientists
proved that the mice injected with stem cells, specialized to fit in with the tissues where they
appeared, a list that includes the brain, retina, lung, heart, muscle, liver, intestine, kidney, spleen,
marrow, and skin. This concludes that stem cells can be used to treat if not cure illnesses
involving the organs affected by diseases. Also there has been research done on an infected mouse
where stem cells were injected into their blood stream. The donor cells

On Yellow Paper Or Work It Out For Yourself Essay

Smith is a semi autobiographical modernist text that is set up as a stream of consciousness of the
musings of Pompey Casmilus. It is the first of Smith s three novels, and often considered a part of
the second generation of Modernist writings. Other critics like Kristin Bluemel consider it to be an
intermodernist text. Throughout Novel, Smith brings in modernist staples such as references to
other texts, different languages, stream of consciousness style, quotations, allusions, myth making,
and nationalism. While there are no chapters in the book, spaces between paragraphs determine

Anti Semitism runs throughout Novel, according to Kristin Bluemel, plays an important role in
Smith s purpose to show the fickleness of English anti Semitism. Pompey continues on with
another flashback about how when she was at a party thrown by Leonie and was suddenly
struck by the notion that she was the only goy or a Gentile. The line Hurrah to be a goy! is used,
and has become one of the more referenced lines in criticism and reviews (11). She continues by
saying, A clever goy is cleverer than a clever Jew (11). She expresses how lucky she is to be a
goy in London, but of course she is clear to explain that she has Jewish friends. Pompey states
that it makes her feel doublefaced (13). At first, Pompey expresses her love of Germany: the art,
the music, and the atmosphere. While reminiscing about her trip to Germany, Pompey talks about
how deeply neurotic the German people are (119). She talks about Hitler in an almost mocking
voice, and Severin explains: ...begins with a blatantly anti Semitic statement, from a simple anti
Other stance. But it does so by mimicking the language of imperialism and anti Semitism, slowly
exposing the dangers of any language of domination (Severin 471). Therefore, by using anti
Semitic language, and using it as a focal point in the novel, Smith is able to convey the importance
of unity and respect. The rise of

Precious finds the love that she was searching for when she meets her teacher, Ms. Rain, her

self identity, but just learns to accept it. He then later, at the end of the book, makes a home
underground, invisible to those above him, even to the power and electric company who he s
stealing electricity from to power his underground domain. There are people in our society
today who are supposedly similarly invisible. Those who are homeless or disabled are
sometimes accused of not affecting the world in any way. Those without a college education, let
alone a high school diploma, are also generally thought of to have no impact on the world.
However, I do not believe in these accusations. Every living person has the ability to leave an
impression on the world, no matter how small the impression is. It all depends on the person s
willingness to change the world. Homeless or uneducated people could make impressions by
joining in protests, marches, and walking for funds; those are only three ways out of many more
various ways to make an effort to change the world. One specific individual that changed the world

This passage, consisting of three paragraphs, out of Lorna Sage s Bad Blood, is presented by an
all knowing first person narrator. It revolves around a young girl s, the narrator s, school life and
childhood experiences. It follows the evolution of a friendship between the narrator and her dear

Gail s ascendancy is further demonstrated at the beginning of the third paragraph, Once she d
thoroughly trounced me in public, Gail ignored me and held court in her own corner every
playtime. (ll 21 22). This also represents Gail s physical advantage and her independent ability of
holding court in her own corner .
Regardless of their conflicts, however, the narrator seems to admire Gail, which further
demonstrates the idea of Gail s supremacy; describing her as, wiry and graceful (l 19) and she
was so physically confident, in charge of her body even when she was five. (ll 14 15). The
narrator s reverence is emphasized through the use of words such as so and even highlighting that
it is unusual and extraordinary of a child of five to be so physically confident. The narrator is not
the only one who looks up to Gail, Other little girls might admire the ringlets and the dresses with
smocking on the yokes, and the white socks that stayed up... (ll 22 24).
In the second paragraph we read that the narrator eventually becomes friends with Gail, In fact, she
did become my very best friend, years later, (ll 9 10). Instead of constantly arguing and fighting
with each other they; went round holding hands painfully fast and giggling together hysterically, (ll

Ford feels that although steps have been taken to lower their health care expenses, the cost to
the company will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. Foreign car manufacturers have on
average lower health care and employee costs, giving them an advantage over Ford, GM, and
Daimler Chrysler. Ford Motor Co is hoping to take steps to offset the costs of employee benefits;
however, this could also lead to negative publicity for the company. Foreign auto makers are able
to maintain lower costs with non unionized and on average, younger employees. The next risk
factor for the auto industry is commodity and energy price increases. Steel and resin (plastic) are
the two most used commodities for auto manufacturers, and they are products in high demand for
many industries. Rising awareness of sustainability and rising demand for these products has lead
to recent price increases, and it is estimated to continue this trend. This factor targets all of the auto
industry, but again hits the big three and other auto manufacturers harder then it does some of the
foreign car manufacturers. Japanese auto makers have long been seen as efficient smaller car
manufacturers, where the big three have moved to the larger SUV type vehicle. By building
smaller vehicles, Japanese auto makers reduce their dependency and therefore their costs on steel
and resin. The second risk coming from the comparative sizes of vehicles being manufactured by
the auto makers is the cost

He is scared by the pressures of power and is intimidated based off his past experiences. Earlier in
the novel, while talking to the badger he says, I should have liked to go to war (White 187).
Through his experiences with Merlin, he now believes that ruling in a noble way is more
important than intimidating the people one rules over. He adapts the mind set and ideals of his
teacher, Merlin. Merlin consistently believes that jousting and tilting are foolish and childish. He
passes his ideals on to Wart through showing him how foolish it is to joust when he takes Wart to

By the time the original 1999 film The Matrix came out in theaters, film critics and moviegoers
were fascinated by the unique style of the film which complimented the story and development of
the main character Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, through his changing sense of fashion, from
simple t shirts he sleeps in to long elegant coats which cloak new found abilities.
When we first meet Neo, his clothing emulates his position in life and his attitude towards it.

in 1959. This early statement did not use the term control, but controlling financial interest. This
was generally evidenced by ownership of a majority of the voting shares, and over time, majority
ownership became the de facto indicator of control. Within the last five years, the FASB has

Brechtian Alienation in Theater Performance Essay
Brechtian Alienation in Community Performance
Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht, (b.1898 d.1956), known commonly as Bertolt Brecht, was a
German poet and playwright. One of his major contributions to theatre history was the alienation
effect (From the German, Verfremdungseffekt ). Brechtian alienation requires the removal of the
fourth wall. This is a term that describes the suspension of disbelief by the audience that takes place
during a performance. It is often thought that the audience looks in on the play s action through an
invisible wall, just as the audience during a performance is focused upon a procenium stage. This is
a literal and figurative term. The audience pretends that the characters in the story are actually alive,

The performers know that what they have to say is rehearsed and is for the benefit of the
audience. The political message is of great importance. However, the entire event has an air of
surrealism.
A second example of community performance that utilizes the effect of Brechtian Alienation is
the work of the late monologist, Spaulding Gray. Spaulding Gray (1941 2004) was the author
and performer of monologues such as Swimming to Cambodia (1987) and Monster in a Box.
(1992) During his performances, Spaulding sat serenely behind a desk, sipping water as he
related stories of his life, satirized for the benefit of an audience. No subject was taboo. He spoke
candidly about puberty, sex and suicide. His monologues contained many messages, some quite
political. Although he portrayed himself as a character, disassociating himself from many of the
painful memories he shared (such as dealing with the suicide of his mother and his subsequent
depression), the audience was always keenly aware that his work was a reflection of his
experience, not a factual reporting of the experience itself. His words made audiences introspective,
leading them to mull over issues of social justice. His final performance was his own suicide in
2004, pointedly highlighting the issues facing the mentally ill.
The next example is not motivated by any political agenda. Renaissance

Dynamic Characters In The Office
If there is one thing that I have learned through this whole experience, it s that if you film
anybody long enough, they re going to do something stupid. It s only human natural. Kevin sums
up the gist of the television series, The Office, in the final episode. The series is filmed like a
documentary and follows a cast of dynamic characters through everyday life working at a fictional
paper company called Dunder Mifflin. Two of the quirkiest characters in the show are Michael Scott
, the regional manager, and Dwight Schrute, a paper salesman. At first glance, these characters seem
to share nothing in common; however, when taking a closer look, Dwight and Michael have many
similarities including social abilities, work lives, and emotional connectivity. Michael and Dwight
are similar in that they are both mildly socially detached. This trait contributes to the humor in their

Summary Of A Song For A Barbarian Reed Pipe
In the article, A Song for A Barbarian Reed Pipe was written by Maxine Hong Kingston. She
talked about a story in her childhood, and how she had difficulty challenge by learning to speak
English. Since Maxine grouped up in an immigrant family and her homeland language was
Chinese, she did not feel comfortable to communicate with people who spoke English. Even
though her mother cut her tongue when she was a baby, she still could not be able speak
fluently. Therefore, she tried to keep silence when she needed to speak English. In the other
article, The From Poets in the Kitchen was written by Paule Marshall. She talked about her
childhood experience with a bunch of black women workers. Marshall was a West Indian girl
who was born in New York, and she growed up in a working class family. When Marshall was a
kid, her mother usually chatted with her workers in the kitchen after work. Since they all spoke
dialectal English in the kitchen, the kitchen became a place that helped Marshall to build up the
languageand make a process to become a successful writer in her life. These two articles had the
similar way to show language could influence a person s behavior and characteristic. As
CzesЕ‚aw MiЕ‚osz mentioned that Language is the only homeland. Language can be a bridge to
communicate with each other, but when we did not know how to express ourselves by using other
language, we would feel helpless and embraced. Maxine was cut her tongue by her mom when she

cultures when obtaining an identity in American culture. As first generation Chinese Americans
both Tan and Kingston faced many obstacles. Obstacles in language and appearance while
balancing two cultures. Overcoming these obstacles that were faced and preserving heritage both
women gained an identity as a successful American.

My mother was in the room. And it was perhaps the first time she had heard me give a lengthy

assimilate into American culture while also keeping familial culture. A piece of heritage that uses a
language of intimacy, a different sort of English that relates to familytalk. Tan grew up with this
language and she still uses it with her mother, husband and in her books. (418) Another method to

Kingston ideals in appearance were passed from generation to generation. Altering ideals when
creating identity is noticed in Kingston s essay. A long held tradition in many Chinese families is
that many generations live under the same roof and this can cause a conflict in ideals. Conflicting
ideals between generations is shown as Tan tells how the younger generation hid the identities of

Speech Team Discussion
So, you have how many kids on your speech team? 65!?! How do you have 65 kids on your
team? This question is a common question I am asked by my colleagues and friends on the
speech circuit and one that I was posed with again this past weekend. Having a large team is
certainly a wonderful situation. We fill a bus (sometimes two buses), practices are lively and busy,
and finding an audience to practice in front of is never a problem. A team this sizable requires A
LOT of coaching time (each studentneeds to perform individually), organization, effort, and careful
planning. To compensate for the lack of time and multiple myself, I watch film most mornings,

people who will make a positive impact on this world and find the right students to establish
traditions, a culture that celebrates hard work, and loves to have fun. I am so grateful to have
watched students grow as performers and speakers, discover the ability to stand tall in the face of

messages that they hold close to their hearts. Our words are powerful. Our connections and the

found in the Gospel of Luke, it is either God/Jesus, or their respective actions that bring salvation.
Tax Collectors fall under that category of those that believed in the time of Jesus that salvation was
not quite available to them.
Tax Collectors were not highly respected in Roman Territories. The people hated the tax
collectors for several reasons. First and foremost, they were tax collectors. And that meant in
Rome you could tax whatever amount you wanted as long as Rome got their base taxes. So
often, as I m sure most of you may know, they would abuse that power and get a lot of money
that way. It s like if you got a $500 tax bill and you could barely pay that, but you understand taxes
are taxes even though you don t like having to pay them. And then someone like Zacchaeus comes
along and says actually that bill is gonna ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, several were Jews so it was like they shared in the Roman domination. A lot of people
didn t like Rome, but couldn t do anything about it. So that s like a double negative for tax
collectors in the Roman Empire. Imagine if you were a civilian in this empire at that time.
Where a foreign nation takes over and makes you pay them once they conquer you. And you
weren t even bothering them. Jericho is a long ways away from Rome by the way. It is 2,316
kilometers from Jericho to Rome. That s 1,439 miles away. Imagine how far that is 2,000 years ago

Lab Report On Search For Things On A Day
Julia Monaco
Cog Lab #1
Introduction: We use our attention to search for things on a day to day basis, whether complex or
basic. Items we are searching for are noticed easier when there are many of the same different
items (distractors) around the one we are searching for. It helps the item we are searching for stand
out. When there is more than one different, kind of distractor around the item (target) it makes it
harder for us to find to find it. Mackintosh (1975) states, in order to have selective attention we learn
to watch or ignore the stimuli depending on its relevance to what we are looking for. We also learn
inverse relationship between the different stimuli. If stimuli increase the other, stimuli will
decrease and vice versa. We use these ideas when we were looking for a certain stimulus and we
have to find it in different scenes of varied other stimuli (distractors). According to Treisman and
Gelade (1980), the theory tells us that attention has to be individually directed to each dependent
stimulus regardless of the distractions surrounding it. One stimulus has to be easily distinguishable
to be detected as different. In order to find the target crowded by the various distractors, we have to
make sure we specifically focus our attention on just finding that one stimulus and not the
distractors. According to Treisman (1982), when searching for the dependent stimulus in a scene
with other different stimuli, we scan the scene in groups rather than by each

Greco Roman Impact On Rome
PaperGreco Roman impact
Potty talk let s talk about the john, the lou, the porcelain throne the thing we used every day. Some
people call it their happy place but for others it s the fantastic innovation that rome has given us.
Some people don t know but the toilet originated in rome, it may not have been clean but it was the
only way at the time to do your business. If you were rich you would have our own private toilet
made of limestone, but for the poor you would have to use a communal bathroom made of wood.
they had no toilet paper they used a sponge on a stick submerged in a bucket. The communal
toilets were believed to have spread diseases which does not surprise me at all but i think the

In Rome, large urinal pots typically were put on street corners. Periodically, fullers (the Roman
version of a not so dry cleaner) would empty them and use the contents in the process of laundering
and bleaching togas, tunics, and other clothing.
In many Roman cities there were public toilets. Such facilities were typically just rectangular
shaped rooms (some seating as many as 100 people). Arranged along several of the walls of these
rooms were long stone benches each with a row of keyhole shaped openings cut into it. Water
running down drains underneath the benches would flush waste away into the sewers.
Conclusion on how all of these innovations impact us
As you know we currently don t have wooden toilets but if it weren t for Romans we probably
would not have toilets at all, the innovation of toilets and sewage is only possible because of the
Romans. toilets would be useless without sewage system or aqueducts and since the Romans did
that we don t have to worry about having to take our poop down to the river or cesspit. Now in
today s modern world we have a much more advanced fuller whom does a better job than Roman

Nietzsche s On The Genealogy Of Morals
Why do we punish ? Why do we feel guilt ? How do we define what is good , bad or evil ? What
moves us to make a judgement? In On the Genealogy of Morals, Friedrich Nietzsche makes use
of three different essays ( Good and Evil , Good and Bad , Guilt , Bad Conscience , and the Like
, and What is the Meaning of Ascetic Ideals? ) that examine similar forms of his major
philosophical worry: the various origins and definitions of our different moral concepts and ideas,
persistence and progressively grave effects of Christian morality. It is generally hard to evaluate
Nietzsche because he displays such an authentic approach to value theory that it is easy to get lost
in his vast collection of ideas. In the first essay, Good and Evil,... Show more content on

He attempts to show the relationship between guilt and punishment. In history, punishment did not
promote guilt, rather it inhibited it. The punished person pays off his/her debt through punishment,
thereby nullifying all reasons to feel guilt. The moral concepts only gained their present meanings
through the rise of slave morality . Also, Nietzsche tries to determine the actual origin of
conscience. He constantly refers to this moral concept as bad conscience . To support his opinion,
he provides an example of previous times when man had no moral values and basked in his
instinctive animal nature. All of this is just an assumption of Nietzsche. Again, he fails to provide
background history on his claims on events not within his

Essay The Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda and South Sudan
Introduction In the African countries of Uganda and South Sudan, thousands of men, women and
children are being brutally murdered and mutilated in their own villages. Children are being
kidnapped by the thousands. Women are being brutally raped. Shockingly, the assailants in these
heinous crimes are children, armed under the leadership of a military madman named Joseph Kony.
Calling themselves the Lord s Resistance Army, they are considered one of the most vicious
terrorist groups in the world.
Beginning of the LRA The Lord s Resistance Army (LRA) was originally founded in 1986 by Alice
Lakwena in northern Uganda under the name the Holy Spirit Movement Forces. Subsequently, the
group was taken over in 1987 by Joseph Kony after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

also been listed as global terrorist by the State Department since 2008. Subsequently, the LRA was
officially listed as a terrorist organization by the African Union in 2011.
Kony Under the leadership of Joseph Kony, the LRA has become increasingly violent, often
towards the Acholi people, who they claim to protect. Kony uses scriptures taken from the
Pentateuch to convince his followers that they are doing the will of God by murdering and
mutilating innocent people. Moreover, while declaring he follows both Christianity and Islam, he
also maintains that he receives guidance from the spirits of the dead through black magic rituals. A
warrant was issued for Kony along with four of his commanders by the International Criminal
Court in 2005, for crimes against humanity and related war crimes. According to the U.S. State
Department, two of the commanders are assumed dead, while the whereabouts of Kony and the
two others remain unknown. Currently, the United States has offered a reward of five million
dollars for information leading to Kony s arrest and capture. In 2006, the government of Uganda
arranged for peace talks with Kony and the LRA. However, although Kony originally agreed to the
negotiations, he repeatedly refused to come out of hiding to sign the agreements. It has been
reported that in 2007, he murdered his second in command Vincent Otti during

Postpartum Depression In Fathers Poem Meaning
Being inside the working force isn t all fun and games for everyone, especially people who aren t
living the American Dream . The dream that every American has; this dream may be different
for a lot of people, but to me it means getting a career that you love to wake up to everyday that
also pays the bills. Jan Beatty s poem My Father Teaches Me to Dream describes a working class
man who just doesn t enjoy the lifestyle that he has. He isn t living the American Dream because
he doesn t love what he does as a job. The artwork Postpartum Depression in Fathers shows a
father holding his baby son looking as if he is about to cry, staring deep into his son s eyes. This
work of art represents the poem My Father Teaches Me to Dream perfectly by having this father
venting to his son about his horrible job, but inadvertently using reverse motivation hoping that his

Jan Beatty begins to leave little hints in the poem that show signs of hope that this poem isn t
just about a depressed father complaining. These signs aren t easily found, because they are
rather inferred by the author. These signs show that this father actually loves his son very much
and is saying this speech as if to motivate his son to work towards his dreams and put in the effort
to excel in the job market. Once this idea is in mind, the title of the poem begins to make sense
by how his father is teaching him to dream, just in a different way that is unique and that not a lot
of people are familiar with. This strategy is called reverse motivation, its similar to someone
saying to the reader that you can t accomplish something, which in turn just ends up motivating the
reader to prove him or her wrong and do it anyways. Similar to the famous quote, Tell me I can t,
then watch me work twice as hard to prove you wrong from Inspiring Quotes via Twitter. (cite

Kurt Warner Case Study
Kurt Warner would be rated in the cheerleader quadrant on the scale of managerial incompetence.
The season after Super Bowl XXXVI, Kurt injured his hand. He was able to recover but still
struggled. In the 2003 Season Opener game Kurt fumbled six times and was benched for Mark
Bulger. Even though Kurt was benched he still encouraged the team and kept a positive
environment. Kurt worked within this quadrant because even though he wasn t playing he was
always supportive of Mark. Kurt would be as excited about Mark as he d be for himself. Another
example is during the 2003 playoffs. The Rams began to fall apart and during this scene #81
Torry Holt became frustrated but Kurt was able to talk him down. The next scene Torry said Kurt

the Giants but was later benched for Eli Manning. Eli Manning had lost 8 games in a row, but Kurt

out Manning for Kurt. Later after the game Kurt said he didn t think that the Giants should turn to
him in a relief situation. This showed that even though he was able to play, Kurt still supported Eli
Manning when he wasn t at his best. Kurt Warner s 3 significant bases of power are referent,

team started to fall behind. Throughout the game Kurt took his hits from the defense and his team

Essay on Antibiotic Usage
This optimism has been dissipated long before the 20th century when the proliferation of antibiotic
resistance bacteria became evident as Fleming predicted earlier. With the rapid development of
infectious disease associated with antibiotic resistance forced us to change the way we view
disease and the way we treat patients.
However, antibiotic use has not been without consequence and several factors had contributed to
the development of resistance. Some resistances are due to spontaneous mutation and these
mutations are for select antibiotic resistance whilst other bacteria tend to steal the deoxyribonucleic
acid (DNA) from their counterparts who are already familiar with antibiotics (Mims, 2004;
Tenover, 2006).
Antibiotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can argue that antibiotics resistance was seen from a distance with the rapid development of
antimicrobial resistance, however, the treatment of animals and humans worldwide is evident that
we breed these animals for human consumption therefore the resistance of transferring through the
food chain is likely (Livermore, 2006). More meals are prepared outside the home and
contamination will go un noticed until infection started, example the outbreak of Escherichia coli
O157 (DOH, 2006).
As food borne infections increases, so does the use of antibiotics. Social change increased with a
number of immunocompromise people who helped to increase the use of antibiotic fostering
development of resistance. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a multi drug resistance organism had
become a major global threat to control tuberculosis, limiting treatment options and shortening of
lives (WHO, 2001).
The development of bacterial resistance left one to think how the human body reacts to antibiotics
and the more antibiotic used the quicker resistance occur. It is important that we understand how
bacteria are classified, their structure, physical appearance, ability to grow in the human body, their
relationship in response to antibiotics and the immune system (Fraise and Bradley, 2009). Chalmers
and Straud (2006) explained that in order to understand bacteria behavior it is vital to consider the
chain of infection whilst some organisms have

In the tv series Jason Street begins the season, until he suffered a career ending hit that
paralyzed him for his life. This paved the way for no name Matt Saracen, a sophomore backup
who had never seen the field and had very limited athletic ability. Where as, the movie features
Mike Winchell a senior, receiving his first start ever as a panther. The hard working, small and
determined quarterback faces adversity and leads his panther team to victory even without star
running back and offensive juggernaut Booby Miles. Winchell takes it upon himself to lead his
team and show them what he can do. On the other hand, in the tv series, Matt Saracen is
struggling to find confidence in his new role on the team. I just want to be back up again. He
pleads. This is where coach Eric Taylor steps in and teaches the young quarterback how to work
with what he s got, and how to manage a football game. Saracen in his first start only threw the
ball four times, but one pass was a completion for the game winning touchdown. Mike Winchell
and Matt Saracen are your average, home grown, Texas boy, who grew up without a father or a
mother. Both Saracen and Winchell are without parents, but still have loving grandmas that
attend/watch every game. The two have very similar backgrounds but opposite demeanor,
Winchell always worked hard and never was handed anything. Saracen was handed the starting
quarterback job after Jason was paralyzed, and he didn t want the responsibility. This adds to his
uprising throughout the next couple of weeks. After he won the first game at quarterback, people
said, Jason Street who? He didn t know Jason before the injury and he didn t know what to do, so

The Last Post And Dolce Et Decorum Est
Wilfred Owen s Dolce et Decorum Est and Carol Ann Duffy s The Last Post are both refusals of
war propaganda and intended to convey an anti war message to populations at war. Both texts
use the point of view of a poet Wilfred Owen s being from a veteran. However, both speaks clearly
convey a message desiring change, and a greater understanding of the horrors of warwithin the
general population. Owen s first stanzais a myriad of techniques, beginning with similes and
metaphors describing the worn out soldiers firstly as beggars then as hags , dehumanizing them
just as the war does. Similarly, Duffy s poem in which she directly quotes from Dulce et Decorum

Duffy uses the image, of the boys , kissing photographs from home along with the repeated lists
of either family members, common names, or aspirations in order to create an emotive link

men such as himself. Using Hyperbole s like all of my dreams to make the reader compassionate
towards the speaker. Owen s next lines appeal to the reader to reflect on their own experiences by
direct address, alliteration, imagery, asking the reader to personally stop telling the lie that are is
honorable and noble. Contrastingly, Duffy strongly utilizes repetition to summarize the main
theme in her poem. The final two lines are the same as two earlier lines making the reader dwell
on why she has made this recurrence. In Duffy s poem with focuses heavily on the rewinding of
time and the changing of history, she repeats this phrase to illustrate the fact that nothing has
changed. Both poems are rejections of war propaganda and reflections on how even after the
tragedy and sorrow in both poems war are still fought daily and nothing has changed in the

Pygmies In The Middle Ages
The philosophers and theologians of the Middle Ages were aware of the limits of their Western
European geography. Possessed with the knowledge of other countries and empires, but unable to
actually travel there, these thinkers were tormented by their lack of information. Relying on
stories told by merchants and sailors, local tales and legends, as well as varied and inaccurate
ancient histories, they tried to cobble together maps, travelogues, and books detailing as much of
the world as they knew, or believed existed. From these sometimes accurate and often fanciful
accounts of mythical beasts and cities, one can see the development of many elements of modern
day thought on race and racial origin. Reports of giants, of pygmies, of people... Show more content

There are many important thinkers, such as St. Augustine, who emerged during and after the fall of
the Roman Empire and the Dark Ages that ensued, from roughly 476 1000, and their contributions
will be addressed. However, it is with the advent of the High Middle Ages that books, philosophy,
theology, and maps blossomed along with expanded ambitions of capturing all of the knowledge
possible at the time. The paper will first explain the foundations of medieval race thought and cover
some of the important philosophers, before moving on to discuss how these ideas were represented
throughout the broader culture of the times. The second half of the essay will focus on several of
the highlighted themes and how they have survived, and thrived, in modern racial thought.
Entering the High Middle Ages, Western Europe had figured out most of its inner power struggles
and the beginnings of nation states had emerged. The dust had settled, relatively speaking, for a
society that was built around a ruling warrior class. Monarchies in England, France, and the Holy
Roman Empire ruled with absolute and in some cases divine authority, and the encroachment of the
Moors in Spain had reached a standstill. In these comparatively calm times, Western European men
were free to turn their attention to the development of culture and the cultivation of knowledge. Old
Roman and Greek histories were dragged out of

The Science Of Entomology
Entomology is an area of forensics that studies insects. The science is mainly applied to
murders, since insects are often the first at the crime scene (Discovery Network, 2015). The
bugs can be used to analyze a body, especially to determine when and where the murder occurred
(Environmental Science, 2017). Entomologists are able to do so by analyzing the age and species
of a bug (Discovery Network, 2015). While this does not always provide necessary evidence, it
often gives police a lead in a case (Discovery Network, 2015). Ultimately, entomologyis a science
that works due to biology, can serve as strong evidence, and has multiple requirements in order to
go into the field. In order to be an entomologist, one must meet multiple requirements.... Show more

Entomologists are people who have worked very hard to meet all the requirements for the job
(Study, 2017). They have gone through years of college, and developed the right aptitude as well
(Study, 2017). The insects the entomologists study give multiple clues with their actions (Crime
Museum, 2017). By simply living out their life, the bugs can provide entomologists with the time a
murder occurred (Crime Museum, 2017). This can then be used to put together a report against
someone, and from there, hopefully accuse the correct person (Discovery Network, 2015).

  • 2. Difference Between Starbucks And Tata Process of Negotiation The negotiation between Starbucks and Tata began in January 2011, this carried on for a period of one year where they both discussed the terms and conditions of the agreement. During the period of the negotiation, both the parties had discussed their interests. The Government of India at that time had loosened the regulations where foreign single brand companies could start investing in India, but, despite the norms being more relaxed, Starbucks had decided to use other ways of entering into India. Starbucks had met up with Tata Global Beverages whereby they had both discussed their interests to enter into a partnership to operate Starbucks in India. Starbucks and Tata had also negotiated on the location for the outlets, Starbucks partnership with Tata means tapping into prime location. • 3. Sex Offender Notification System Since 1994 nationwide laws have been put into an effect nationwide asking for those convicted of a sexual crime be placed on a registered list. In the 20 years since its implementation, the registry has added several caveats such as a tier based registry where the violent offenders were kept at a higher more prominent level. As well as public notice every few months of an offender relocating or living in your area. While some low levels offenders must relinquish 15 years of their life notifying the public and remaining on this list, those on the higher tier of the list must reregister more often and for the rest of their lives. Since it s their enactment however some states have seen a dramatic increase in sex offenders whether due to the expansion of the definition of a sexual crime, or the reclassification of some convicts as a result of this law. An example of this would be prior to the law if a teenager was tried as an adult in their state, served time but under the state s legislature was not required to register as an offender. Under the current law, there is a possibility this teenager will have to register for the rest of their life every 3 months. Failure to do so may result in a felony charge or possible life sentence. • 4. Harry Erskine Series Essay The Harry Erskine series is a set of novels by renowned British horror novelist Graham Masterton. Given that Graham dabs in so many other genres and has many other series under his belt, the publication of the six novels in the series has been sporadic. That being said the bulk of the novels have been published between 1976 and 2009. The lead character in the series is the self styled psychic Harry Erskine. When we first come across the enigmatic Erskine, he is a shaman earning his living through providing psychic reading to an assortment of old rich ladies in New York City. Nonetheless, given the high demand for his services, he frequently travels to other cities on the Eastern seaboard such as Miami. Harry Erskine had been skeptical of the... The crimes that were committed by the early settlers are now coming back to haunt their children in the form of a Manitou spiritual bodies of the Native Algonquin peoples. In the Graham Masterton novels, the Manitou is Misquamacus one of the most powerful Native American Medicine Men who ever lived who makes his first appearance in the first novel, The Manitou. An ancient Arabian genie is the main antagonist in the Djinn, the second novel of the series. The Harry Erskine series of novels has variously been described as one of the best fiction novels that you could ever read. Masterton creates a brilliant supernatural threat, lovable, memorable characters, and fantastic pacing that provides an ever increasing sense of dread. The novels provide some good descriptions where you just need them and are vague enough to leave you in suspense, which is what you would want from a horror novel. The antagonist Misquamacus is a frightening though vague figure that has the power to conjure the most frightening of North American demons. • 5. Mcdonald s and Hotels McDonald s Hotels Written Case Analysis By Sean Bibbey SWOT Analysis External Environment The external environment of the hotel industry in is very competitive and already well established. Trends in the market include promotional campaigns to customers using the more bang for your buck, method. There are several different segments of the hotel industry including: luxury, upscale, mid market with food and beverage, mid market without food and beverage, economy, and budget. Each different segment offers certain amenities to appeal to consumers depending on what they are looking for in an over night stay away from home. As McDonald s looks at entering the hotel industry they have looked at several important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, McDonald s could create a totally brand name driven hotel enterprise by using the same type of direction Disney did when they created their own cruise line. Strategy Recommendations General Recommendations McDonald s should use their brand name to create a McDonald s experience in the hotel industry just like Disney did with cruises. They should also incorporate their food service experience with their hotels and create new menus for them just like they do when they enter a new country. Specific Recommendations McDonald s should enter the mid market with food and beverage segment. In this segment they can take advantage of what they already know in the food service industry while avoiding the high cost and inexperience of luxury accommodations. These hotels should be directed at children and families. They could incorporate the McDonald s Play Place and other fun activity rooms like arcades or maybe something more adult like a game room with pool tables and electronic darts. Using a more family oriented direction will also allow them to avoid the high cost of liquor licenses and trying to compete with something that is already being done. Rationale behind Recommendations If McDonald s wants to take part in the hotel industry using the strength of their brand name it is

  • 7. English as The Official Language of the United States Essay The debate of instituting English as the official language in the United States is a debate that has been going on for centuries. Many people believe that English should be the official language because we are American, and Americans speak English. However, many of those people fail to realize that we all come from different heritages and corners of the world. Language should be an art of expression, one where people of all heritages and backgrounds can speak in the language that they have learned. Implementing English as the official language in the United Stateswould be to essentially ignore and disrespect all of the heritages, nationalities, and religions that make the United States a unique place to live. This tactic is effective because not only are the students getting used to the language, but, they are not being forced to speak English regularly. They can speak whatever language they like around their friends or family, but when it comes down to business, they better know how to use the English language. Many people in the United States have a sense of comfort with their own culture and language to the point where they will not abandon those things in order to pick up a new language and lifestyle. In the article named, Why and When We Speak Spanish in Public, written by Myriam Marquez, she explains how her family continues to use the Spanish in public in the United States, even though they have lived in the United States for over 40 years. Marquez explains, For me and most of the bilingual people I know, it s a matter of respect for our parents and comfort in our cultural roots (542). People are simply not going to change who they are and where they come from just so they can conform to the normal population of the United States. For the most part, people who come the United States are happy that the country has not implemented a national language law because the people who come here can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Symbolic Ethnicity Essay Symbolic ethnicity is a term coined by Herbert Gans. It refers to ethnicity that is individualistic in nature and without real social cost for the individual. These symbolic identifications are essentially leisure time activities, rooted in nuclear family traditions reinforced by voluntary enjoyable aspects of being ethnic (Gans 424 429). Symbolic ethnicity is practiced and enjoyed by white Americans. It is a way for descendants of white Europeans to learn about and be proud of their heritage. That is not the case for non whites who are grouped together by the white majority making ethnic identity difficult . This type of ethnicity is rooted in immigrants of European descent. This creates a situation where Caribbean blacks who are steeped in heritage are typically unable to partake in their own ethnic celebrations like their white counterparts. When Caribbean blacks arrive in America, they attempt to distance themselves from the American black (Ogbu, J.U. 425 429). When a black group attempts to celebrate its heritage, other groups march in order to disrupt these types of celebrations. Every time a black organization wants to march or celebrate, the KKK or other white supremacist group alternatively marches to cause conflict. When this type of celebration does take place, it is typically limited locally to black neighborhoods with no media coverage. Asians are treated in a similar fashion being grouped together as one nation. There are Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean and Cambodian to name a few. These people when assimilated into American culture become one group, Asian, which in many cases offers no opportunity to express their own national heritage or culture in America. Grouping of these minorities puts all blacks whether American or otherwise and Asians under the same umbrella and therefore dealing with the same stereotypes. These images ... • 10. Analysis Of Etgar Keret sWhat Of This Goldfish Would You... It is usually a challenge to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. Ordinarily, one has to consider one s values as well as preferred consequences in order to make the better or best choice. In the short story, What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish? by Etgar Keret, Sergei Goralick faced a similar conundrum. As an aloof Russian expatriate fisherman in Jaffa, Israel, his only company is a magic three wishgranting fish. But having impulsively murdered Yonatan, Goralick had to decide whether to use his last wish to save the boy or keep his magic goldfish companion. Though he would have preferred the latter, Goralick made the better choice saving Yonatan as it matches his established humaneness and the consequences attached were more reasonable. Before he arrived at this decision, Gorelick considered covering up the murder to keep the fish. He said, Fixable... I ll just mop up the blood... When I m fishing,...I ll tie the kid to a rock and dump him in the sea. Not a chance, not in a million years, will anyone ever find him. ( lines 164 171) His stubbornness started surfacing, obstructing his sound reasoning. Goralick tried to find excuses in order not to use his last wish. For example, he said that he was saving it for something important.Goralick was ambivalent.Whilst suggesting this, he forgot how scared he was to even touch Yonatan s blood(lines 124 127). That along with his statement, He can t be dead (110 113) proves that had he chosen otherwise, Goralick would have suffered from guilt. In fact, even the goldfish asserted, You killed him, Sergei, ... but you re not a murderer. ... If, on this, you won t waste a wish, then tell me, Sergei, what is it good for? Though what immediately happened after this question was skipped, one can infer that Sergei thought thoroughly during that time. He rightfully chose to save Yonatan. His actions such the uses of his first two wishes reveal his character traits. When he heard of the critical conditions of his sister and Sveta s boy respectively, he did not hesitate to use his first two wishes to save them respectively. His sister had a fatal lung cancer; The fish undid it in an instant the words barely out of Sergei s mouth. .(lines 135 137) And ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Chewing Gum Should Be Allowed In School How many times have you been asked to spit out your gum in class? Countless, I bet. Most teachers at Episcopal abide by the policy that gum chewing in class is not allowed. They say it s inconsiderate. They say it s distracting. They say it has no place in the classroom. These teachers, however, are overlooking the countless benefits of gum chewing. Chewing gumin class can help students stay focused, can help students stay active, and can help students perform betteroverall. Banning gum in school more often than not can cause more harm than good. Gum chewing should be allowed in class. Sitting in five classes a day for times ranging from 55 to 70 minutes, it is a battle of the will to stay on task. Whether distracted by the middle schoolers playing, carefree, on the green or the clicking of someone s pen, it takes true willpower to not shift focus. What if there was a simple way to help students with this? It turns out, there is: gum. Kate Morgan, the author of a gum chewing study in British Journal of Psychology, proved that Interestingly participants who didn t chew gum performed slightly better at the beginning of the task but were overtaken by the end. This suggests that chewing gum helps us focus on tasks that require continuous monitoring over a longer amount of time. It is a true enigma that despite scientific results, Episcopal still bans chewing gum in school. This year, a plethora of students have aimlessly drifted through never ending science and math ... • 14. Reflective Essay On Professionalism Professionalism can be defined as the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. (Merriam webster) My interpretation of this definition is that professionalism is a standard that we must hold ourselves accountable to in order to provide the best service. How do we get from a basic understandingof this definition, to practicing and applying professionalism? Major attributes that lead to professionalism can include accountability, communication and reflective practice. Reflective practice in the healthcare system is when practitioners engage in a continuous cycle of self observation and self evaluation in order to understand their own actions and the reactions they prompt in themselves (becoming a better university teacher...). In the day to day life, everyone performs a type of reflection whether it is by unconscious thought or by habit. When it is unintentional it is hard to learn and grow from the knowledgethat can potentially be gained. Therefore we need to find a way to effectively incorporate reflective practice into our daily lives, especially as radiation therapystudents. There is a simple three step framework for practical, structured reflection by Dr. Natius Oelofsen that really stood out to me. Reflective practice should not be complicated or time consuming or else it will not be done efficiently or effectively. This display compared pictures of animals in a slaughterhouse against pictures of Nazi concentration camp. This campaign stemmed from Nobel Prize winning author Isaac Bashevis Singer, who wrote: In relation to them [animals], all people are Nazis; for them it is an eternal Treblinka a death camp in Poland (CNN, 2003). It s meant to emotionally target the viewer, similar to a scare tactic. It was also deeply insulting to many holocaust survivors. A mix of legal questioning, high emotional ties, and extremely poor taste make this an ethical case of high stakes and varied opinions, but one thing is clear: PETA s Holocaust on a Plate is ethically wrong. The mass murder of millions in a catastrophic historical event should not be appropriated as a tool to gain support for an organization s agenda. The comparison is disgustingly insensitive and takes advantage of others suffering to make a statement. PETA should utilize a different strategy to convey their message. The CEO of PETA will receive better press, and the overall reputation of the already controversial organization will improve. • 17. The Greek Parthenon vs the Roman Pantheon Essay The Greek Parthenon vs the Roman Pantheon Imagine asking a five year old to draw a picture of a house. A native Floridian probably wouldn t draw the typical split plan design with a tile roof and a screened in lanai. The extent of the child s artistic ability would probably consist of a box with a triangle on top of it. As fundamental as it sounds, the use of this structure has a long history dating back to ancient Greece. The classical Greek temple, the Parthenon, made use of this design and influenced (the still rather different) Roman Pantheon. These buildings are excellent examples of how architectural style reflects the culture of its creators and studying their relationship highlights how the ancient Mediterranean world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Parthenon was made entirely out of marble, but it was either cheaply made or the technology was not advanced enough to make it smooth and time resistant. Today, the temple lies in ruins. The foundation and many of the columns still stand, but the roof and carved designs are all but missing. The Pantheon, built in Rome around AD 126, is in great condition yet today. More massive than the Parthenon, the exterior of the Pantheon still looks smoother. The eight Corinthian columns that line the front entrance are not as intrusive as the Doric columns of ancient Greece. They are thinner and ornately decorated. Also, the Pantheon gains its giant size because of its high walls, not by resting its foundation on a mountainous staircase. Again, this makes the temple more delicate than the Parthenon and this difference also infers that the Romans felt much more secure from the dangers of invasion. Unlike the Parthenon that was destroyed by enemies, the Pantheon still stands content. Continuing inside, the walls of the Pantheon are intrinsically a genius of splendor. They are decorated with ornate designs of Corinthian columns and mock windows. The beauty of the three dimensional wall fixtures is exemplified by sunlight let in by the large oculus at its zenith. Although the Parthenon has not survived time, its design has greatly affected our modern world. The children s design mentioned earlier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The line Hurrah to be a goy! is used, and has become one of the more referenced lines in criticism and reviews (11). She continues by saying, A clever goy is cleverer than a clever Jew (11). She expresses how lucky she is to be a goy in London, but of course she is clear to explain that she has Jewish friends. Pompey states that it makes her feel doublefaced (13). At first, Pompey expresses her love of Germany: the art, the music, and the atmosphere. Part 2 The Control Question The next set of questions will put you in the auditor s chair, as you will judge whether Pharmco controls Disco using current GAAP guidance; these questions will also ask you to determine the motivation for creating Disco. 1. The concept of control has a long and storied history, starting with the Committee on Accounting Procedure s (CAP) Accounting Research Bulletin No. 51, Consolidated Financial Statements issued in 1959. This early statement did not use the term control, but controlling financial interest. This was generally evidenced by ownership of a majority of the voting shares, and over time, majority ownership became the de facto indicator of control. Within the last five years, the FASB has addressed some of these issues regarding Variable Interest Entities and Research and Development Arrangements. Utilizing the FASB Accounting Standards Codification (which may be accessed at http://aaahq.org/ascLogin.cfm using the USERNAME AAA52114 and the Password Skt1wI3), identify the current definition of control, and evaluate whether Pharmco controls Disco after the LPO. ... • 32. Brechtian Alienation in Theater Performance Essay Brechtian Alienation in Community Performance Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht, (b.1898 d.1956), known commonly as Bertolt Brecht, was a German poet and playwright. One of his major contributions to theatre history was the alienation effect (From the German, Verfremdungseffekt ). Brechtian alienation requires the removal of the fourth wall. This is a term that describes the suspension of disbelief by the audience that takes place during a performance. It is often thought that the audience looks in on the play s action through an invisible wall, just as the audience during a performance is focused upon a procenium stage. This is a literal and figurative term. The audience pretends that the characters in the story are actually alive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The performers know that what they have to say is rehearsed and is for the benefit of the audience. The political message is of great importance. However, the entire event has an air of surrealism. A second example of community performance that utilizes the effect of Brechtian Alienation is the work of the late monologist, Spaulding Gray. Spaulding Gray (1941 2004) was the author and performer of monologues such as Swimming to Cambodia (1987) and Monster in a Box. (1992) During his performances, Spaulding sat serenely behind a desk, sipping water as he related stories of his life, satirized for the benefit of an audience. No subject was taboo. He spoke candidly about puberty, sex and suicide. His monologues contained many messages, some quite political. Although he portrayed himself as a character, disassociating himself from many of the painful memories he shared (such as dealing with the suicide of his mother and his subsequent depression), the audience was always keenly aware that his work was a reflection of his experience, not a factual reporting of the experience itself. His words made audiences introspective, leading them to mull over issues of social justice. His final performance was his own suicide in 2004, pointedly highlighting the issues facing the mentally ill. The next example is not motivated by any political agenda. Renaissance ... It s only human natural. Kevin sums up the gist of the television series, The Office, in the final episode. The series is filmed like a documentary and follows a cast of dynamic characters through everyday life working at a fictional paper company called Dunder Mifflin. Two of the quirkiest characters in the show are Michael Scott , the regional manager, and Dwight Schrute, a paper salesman. At first glance, these characters seem to share nothing in common; however, when taking a closer look, Dwight and Michael have many similarities including social abilities, work lives, and emotional connectivity. Michael and Dwight are similar in that they are both mildly socially detached. This trait contributes to the humor in their everyday interactions. It also explains why both men struggle with making connections within the office. The approval of others is very important to Michael, and he desperately tries to be the friends with his employees, despite the fact that he is their boss. On the... The only opinions that matter to Dwight are the opinions of those he views as his superiors, which in the office is his boss, Michael. • 34. Summary Of A Song For A Barbarian Reed Pipe In the article, A Song for A Barbarian Reed Pipe was written by Maxine Hong Kingston. She talked about a story in her childhood, and how she had difficulty challenge by learning to speak English. Since Maxine grouped up in an immigrant family and her homeland language was Chinese, she did not feel comfortable to communicate with people who spoke English. Even though her mother cut her tongue when she was a baby, she still could not be able speak fluently. Therefore, she tried to keep silence when she needed to speak English. In the other article, The From Poets in the Kitchen was written by Paule Marshall. She talked about her childhood experience with a bunch of black women workers. Marshall was a West Indian girl who was born in New York, and she growed up in a working class family. When Marshall was a kid, her mother usually chatted with her workers in the kitchen after work. Since they all spoke dialectal English in the kitchen, the kitchen became a place that helped Marshall to build up the languageand make a process to become a successful writer in her life. These two articles had the similar way to show language could influence a person s behavior and characteristic. As CzesЕ‚aw MiЕ‚osz mentioned that Language is the only homeland. Language can be a bridge to communicate with each other, but when we did not know how to express ourselves by using other language, we would feel helpless and embraced. This question is a common question I am asked by my colleagues and friends on the speech circuit and one that I was posed with again this past weekend. Having a large team is certainly a wonderful situation. We fill a bus (sometimes two buses), practices are lively and busy, and finding an audience to practice in front of is never a problem. A team this sizable requires A LOT of coaching time (each studentneeds to perform individually), organization, effort, and careful planning. And then proceeds to insist that the gospelproclaimed is a message of hope for all people. Salvation is a huge part of the Gospel of Luke, there are a plethora of examples of what it means to be saved. And in the many examples found in the Gospel of Luke, it is either God/Jesus, or their respective actions that bring salvation. Tax Collectors fall under that category of those that believed in the time of Jesus that salvation was not quite available to them. Tax Collectors were not highly respected in Roman Territories. The people hated the tax collectors for several reasons. First and foremost, they were tax collectors. And that meant in Rome you could tax whatever amount you wanted as long as Rome got their base taxes. So often, as I m sure most of you may know, they would abuse that power and get a lot of money that way. • 39. Lab Report On Search For Things On A Day Julia Monaco Cog Lab #1 Introduction: We use our attention to search for things on a day to day basis, whether complex or basic. Items we are searching for are noticed easier when there are many of the same different items (distractors) around the one we are searching for. It helps the item we are searching for stand out. When there is more than one different, kind of distractor around the item (target) it makes it harder for us to find to find it. Mackintosh (1975) states, in order to have selective attention we learn to watch or ignore the stimuli depending on its relevance to what we are looking for. We also learn inverse relationship between the different stimuli. If stimuli increase the other, stimuli will decrease and vice versa. We use these ideas when we were looking for a certain stimulus and we have to find it in different scenes of varied other stimuli (distractors). According to Treisman and Gelade (1980), the theory tells us that attention has to be individually directed to each dependent stimulus regardless of the distractions surrounding it. One stimulus has to be easily distinguishable to be detected as different. In order to find the target crowded by the various distractors, we have to make sure we specifically focus our attention on just finding that one stimulus and not the distractors. Water running down drains underneath the benches would flush waste away into the sewers. However, it is with the advent of the High Middle Ages that books, philosophy, theology, and maps blossomed along with expanded ambitions of capturing all of the knowledge possible at the time. The second half of the essay will focus on several of the highlighted themes and how they have survived, and thrived, in modern racial thought. Entering the High Middle Ages, Western Europe had figured out most of its inner power struggles and the beginnings of nation states had emerged. • 51. The Science Of Entomology Entomology is an area of forensics that studies insects. The science is mainly applied to murders, since insects are often the first at the crime scene (Discovery Network, 2015). The bugs can be used to analyze a body, especially to determine when and where the murder occurred (Environmental Science, 2017). Entomologists are able to do so by analyzing the age and species of a bug (Discovery Network, 2015). While this does not always provide necessary evidence, it often gives police a lead in a case (Discovery Network, 2015). Ultimately, entomologyis a science that works due to biology, can serve as strong evidence, and has multiple requirements in order to go into the field. Entomologists are people who have worked very hard to meet all the requirements for the job (Study, 2017). They have gone through years of college, and developed the right aptitude as well (Study, 2017). The insects the entomologists study give multiple clues with their actions (Crime Museum, 2017). By simply living out their life, the bugs can provide entomologists with the time a murder occurred (Crime Museum, 2017). This can then be used to put together a report against someone, and from there, hopefully accuse the correct person (Discovery Network, 2015). References Crime Museum. (2017). Forensic Entomology.
