Industrial Training at PRECOT MERIDIAN Ltd. ,at
Kanjikode, Palakkad (Kerala) from 20th MAY 2015 to
20th JULY 2015.
An amazing experience I got to see how the software
plays an important role in the industry.
Main objective was to learn about the software used in
the Company(PRECOT MERIDIAN Ltd)

BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE COMPANY
• PRECOT MERIDIAN started its first production in 1964
with an initial capacity of 12,096 spindles at
Kanjikode, Kerala.
• The original name of the company was PREMIER
SPINNING COTTON MILLS, then it was changed to
PRECOT MILL LIMITED in 1984.
• Now the present name is PRECOT MERIDIAN Ltd. .

• PRECOT MERIDIAN Ltd. ,a leading manufacturer of Yarn and
Fabrics.
• It was established in the year 1962 by Mr.V.N.Ramachandran
and Mr.N.Damotharan, technocrats in the field of textile
technology.
• It has been in the field of yarn and fabric production for
nearly five decades and has gained extensive expertise and
knowledge across various verticals.
• Products manufactured include cotton yarn, sewing threads,
fabrics and garments.

 ERP is a process of managing all resources and their
use in the entire enterprise in a co-ordinated way.
 ERP is an industry term used for the broad set of
activities that helps a business to manage the
important parts of it’s business.
 In PRECOT MERIDIAN Ltd, SAP is the main ERP that is
used in the following departments :
• PRODUCTION
• QUALITY CONTROL
• ACCOUNTS
• MAINTAINANCE
• HR

SAP
 SAP stands for SYSYTEMS APPLICATIONS AND PRODUCTS IN
DATA PROCESSING
 About SAP: It was founded in 1972 by
Wellenruether, Hopp, Hector, Platner and Tschira.
 SAP system comprises of number of fully integrated modules,
which covers virtually every aspect of the business
management.
 SAP has more than 1,40,000 installations world-wide , over 25
industry specific business solutions and more than 75,000
customers in 120 countries.

Sap in PRECOT meridian Ltd.
• In PRECOT MERIDIAN Ltd., they use the SAP BUSINESS ALL-IN-
ONE for the mill production.
• The reason for using SAP in PRECOT is that the company
wanted more effective control and enhanced effectiveness,
but it’s many islands of software stood in the way . But the
company replaced them all with SAP BUSINESS ALL-IN-ONE
a few years ago , which is exclusively made for mill
production that enabled them to consolidate and
integrated operations across the board and react more
nimbly to business challenges.

SAP in production department
o SAP has highly integrated Production Planning System.
o The Production Planning module consists of master data
needed like Bill of materials, Routings and work centers and
store it in one separated component.
o For determining the quality of the row material for the
production of good quality yarns, ie it tests the quality and
separates the cotton as high quality and low quality.
o The targets for the day in the production department is been
checked with the help of SAP.
o The changes in the demand & supply are reflected in the real-
time systems and the Production Controller can react to these
changes using this SAP.

SAP in Quality Assurance
Department
 SAP supports the entire quality inspection process and allows
real-time access to quality related data.
 SAP is being armed with integrated data across the entire supply
chain , Quality Assurance managers can easily enhance the
quality of their operations with the SAP.
 SAP makes more pro active decisions in response to increasing
quality requirements leads to product consistency, shorter
inspection and issue processing time , as well as fewer defects
and less scrap and re-work.
 SAP plays a crucial role in the strengthening and protecting the
company name and the fame.

 SAP ALL-IN-ONE provides a wide range of financial reports
such as:

 FOXPRO is used to maintain the salary and attendance of the employees.

Conclusion
I acquired many new skills and developed many already existing
skills including testing methods, data flow diagrams, working in a
team based environment, dealing with management & customers,
creativity in design, presentation & communication skills.
Although these skills were developed in the work force, I
have found that my ability to absorb and learn material has
drastically improved, as well as my time management ability. My
experience at PRECOT MERIDIAN Ltd has been invaluable. I
thoroughly enjoyed my position and learned a great deal about
all the various aspect of a major manufacturing corporation.
