Software testing is the process of evaluating and verifying the functionality, performance, and quality of a software product or application. It involves identifying defects, errors, and discrepancies in the software and ensuring that it meets the desired requirements and specifications. The primary objective of software testing is to identify and fix defects before the software is released into production. This helps to reduce the risk of failures, errors, and security breaches that could result in damage to the organization or its customers. There are various types of software testing, including manual testing, automated testing, performance testing, security testing, and more. Each type of testing has its own unique set of tools, techniques, and methodologies to identify defects and ensure software quality. In addition to identifying defects, software testing also helps to improve the overall quality of the software product. By uncovering issues early on in the development process, developers can fix the issues and improve the software design, functionality, and usability. Overall, software testing is a critical component of the software development lifecycle, ensuring that software products are functional, reliable, and secure. It helps to reduce costs, improve customer satisfaction, and protect the reputation and brand of the organization.

Although software testers have the versatility, software testers must have both technical and non-technical skills to provide the best testing services as this skill helps the tester to fight against any circumstances.
Trends in Software Testing: There has been a slow realization among the top executives that simply outsourcing testing to the lowest bidder is not resulting in a sufficient level of quality in their software products. In this session, Paul Holland will discuss how American companies are starting to reconsider “factory school” testing and are no longer satisfied with the current situation of simply outsourcing their “checking”. As the development side of software continues its dramatic shift toward Agile development – what role can testers have and how can testers still add value?
The project title “SAP Development Object Testing” is a study of the software testing in the company. Software testers and QA Engineers play a vital role in any firm. And with time and practice, they will be able to aim for higher positions and pay cheques. Here are the pros and cons of choosing Software testing as a career path.
To begin a profession as a software tester one must take an appropriate training from an approved training and affirmation house. There are passable of associations taking a shot at manual testing techniques and they give assistant training to their representative, however, new settled or updated associations like to take a shot at automation testing techniques. There are awesome favorable circumstances of mechanization testing and supportive in expelling blunders better than manual testing.

APTRON offers testing courses that cover the whole testing spectrum and are all aligned with accepted industry certifications. Any organization depends on its software, which puts pressure on testing to get it right. In a world powered by software, these testing certification courses will be even more important. As a result, there is a huge need for specialists that possess all of the necessary software testing abilities.
Basically this slid will help to Learn software quality testing on scratch level.
Software testing is the quality measures conducted to provide stakeholders with information about the quality of the product or service. Test techniques include, but are not limited to, the process of executing a program or application with the intent of finding software bugs. It is an important part of the entire Software Development ensuring that the functionalities of the system are tested to the finest and assures the quality, correctness and completeness of the product. Software testing, depending on the testing method employed, can be implemented at any time in the development process.
Stages of testing:
o Test planning
o Test Analysis
o Test verification & Construction
o Test execution
o Defect tracking and management
o Quality Analysis Bug tracking
o Report
o Final testing & implementation
Most of the people might say that software test engineers do not write code. Testers normally need completely different skill set which could be a mix of Java, C, Ruby, and Python.
That is not all you require to be a successful tester. A tester requires having a good knowledge of the software manuals and automation tools.
Depending on the complexity of a project, a software testing engineer may write more complicated code than the developer.

Tools are my servants. and I am the master - By Santhosh TuppadSanthosh Tuppad
I am always excited about the tools which can aid me in my mission. And that mission is, to inject my test idea and produce effective results. Since my school days, I have been using various tools/utilities/plugins/extensions to execute my idea. To me, it is not about the tool only but also the idea that comes first to the brain from a variety of thinking skills. For instance, if I do not know how to drive a sports utility vehicle skillfully, I cannot harness the power of the machine offered to me.
You are going to join me in this workshop for these 3 reasons:
Usage of tools to perform better testing
Increase your productivity and invest more time in testing
Just because you can
In this tools demonstration, I will be focussing on a variety of aspects or ways in how a specific tool can be used in your testing activity. And remember that, a tool offers you more than what you think it can achieve if and only the fuel is the right one to feed the tool. And that fuel is your creative ideas. In my childhood days and adulthood, I have used tiny, teeny, and little tools or plugins to extract great results in my testing and achieving effective productivity. In short, tools are my slaves and I am a good master.
The first and foremost idea is to have blueprint/architecture of what you want to achieve and then the tools or frameworks or piece of code is a matter of connecting the wires to power the building. Welcome to this lightning powerful tools demonstration workshop.
Hacking - Bridging the Gap And Going Beyond to Fight Black-HatSanthosh Tuppad
Hacking is one of the areas which shall never stop until the software/hardware exists on this planet. Whatever is built can be compromised and its an order of nature. Some things will never change, but all we can do is protect ourselves from the majority of the attacks and also build solid secure layers around the software that we test. This helps in improving the privacy of our users and also protecting our businesses from the black-hat world. Alas! We have a massive skill shortage. Most white-hat hackers are script kiddies, toolsmith, checkers and someone who keeps running scanners only and then report them as vulnerabilities.
Santhosh Tuppad's question is, if black-hat hackers also use scanners or checkers to hack something, then why is that we have not been able to successfully stop them as we are also using scanners to identify vulnerabilities? Do you get his point? Think.
In this talk, Santhosh Tuppad is going to demonstrate the bad shape of software industry where security is not considered or taken seriously and how shallow or sloppy way of security testing is being done just for the namesake. Santhosh will not just be a pessimist, but also share his thoughts on how we can fix this problem of massive skill shortage and how one can foster their skills by upskilling themselves with characteristics of passion, self-educating, learning, digging deeper and more.
Are you ready for a jaw-dropping session? You bet.

ExpoQA 2018 - Why software security has gotten worse? And what can we do abou...Santhosh Tuppad
As technology evolved, software security faced huge challenges and as the years passed, the world has seen drastic changes far too quickly. And along with these advancements, even black-hat hackers or malicious hackers have evolved also very well. Today, the internet is the place for everyone where hackers dwell almost all the time. Every day new applications are released to the web and users start using them and even get addicted to them due to outstanding UX. But, wait! Did someone think about the "security" layer of these applications? Well, we often don’t and most of the applications today suffer from "beggarly / bad security".
In this talk, Santhosh Tuppad will focus on the pitfalls of bad security and why software security has failed in a pretty way. He will also shed light on how your users may be facing bigger problems than you can imagine due to bad software that lacks security testing. He will also demonstrate some of the lethal problems that exist in the industry and will talk about technical impact, business impacts like reputation damage, revenue loss and a lot more.
Not only that, Santhosh won’t end his talk without some hacking demonstrations that will for sure wow you. Finally, he will tell you how you can start security testing from day 1 and start contributing in terms of building secure software.
From this talk, you will gain an understanding about the problems that a lack of security testing presents and you find out about tool-assisted security testing; performing security tests through questioning. After the talk, you will be able to start identifying risks and report comm.on vulnerabilities giving you a feeling of “I can do this”
Testing IoT Security shouldn't fear you if you have got a hacker mindset - By...Santhosh Tuppad
Most of us have fear when we have spent so much of time in doing something and all of a sudden we are made to embrace a new change which could be in terms of technology. Recently, IoT, AI, ML and Automation have been great subjects and are made to be believed by testers as “Problem Solvers” for “Testing” problem which isn’t really true. They do add value, but let’s not compare them with testing because they are elements of testing while Testing still remains a profession which requires intelligence and is backed by Science.
In this talk, Santhosh Tuppad will try to help the testers to kick-out the fear and embrace the new technologies and learn them by helping them to understand Mindset concept and built their mindset very well. He shall also speak about IoT Security Elements and then relate them to daily life and and current web / mobile hacking. In short, “Once a tester has a mindset of Security or Hacking, it’s much easier to embrace new technologies or domains or software as most of the ideas from web/mobile hacking or life are relevant.
This talk relates very much too, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. ATTRIBUTION: Chinese proverb

Agile Testing Days Tutorial (Germany) 2017 - Web and Mobile Security Testing...Santhosh Tuppad
Not many slides as most of the workshop had an exploratory style and also hands-on after few slides. The description of this workshop goes as follows (This was done for Agile Testing Days - Potsdam in 2017): Most of the people speak about security testing being one of the priorities, but most of the people do not do. My workshop will not make you great hacker on Day 1, but enable you to do security tests on your web and mobile apps and find security vulnerabilities. I am going to focus on Web Security Attacks.
Your users are humans and let's live our promise of securing themSanthosh Tuppad
We have been in the software world for long now and I think still security is not given enough importance. Maybe lack of skills or lack of expertise? How about kickstarting your security testing learning after this talk? Santhosh Tuppad will demonstrate some quick hits (Well, the real hacks) to motivate you and also give you tips to kickstart your security testing learning. Ready for it? Let's do it and nail it down.
Passion is a free spirit, only you can cage it.Santhosh Tuppad
Passion can die and also can reincarnate. Only people who can cage it is people themselves. And they are the ones who can free their passion for being a free-spirit. Letting the passion be free can be done only through learning and continuous improvement (Kaizen in Japanese).
This presentation was delivered at Beyond Passion meetup organized by Accesa company in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Thanks to Diana Pomian and other organizers for providing me this opportunity.
Santhosh tuppad romanian testing conference 2017 - keynote presentationSanthosh Tuppad
I started my career in software testing as highly passionate and I was very aggressive in the things that I did. Well, the passion appeared to dwindle as the days passed and it was extremely boring for me and I did fear the consequences of letting go my passion. Nevertheless, I said this to myself — “When I started, I was highly passionate. And possibly, one of the reason was — “I did not know much and wanted to learn which was one of my highest priority in life”. And my journey of learning restarted from scratch and learning to do better testing.
This experiential story is about my journey where passion wanted to leave me alone, but I convinced passion to stay and now I am so occupied with the learning everyday and thriving for excellence in the things that I do in software testing craft.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

PRADEEP SOUNDARARAJAN
Founder of App Achhi & Moolya Testing
Santhosh has a class in testing that sets him apart from the world. For those who have sat next to him, watched him test, it
is a treat in itself. I have not just had the pleasure to watch him test but also pair test with him on several applications and
on several occasions covering all types of quality criteria that exists in this world. He is one tester I will miss the most.
Santhosh has created a niche for himself and shall continue to create niche that offsets him from the world. I am proud to
have worked with him closely in many ways. To whoever who gets this opportunity, they shall be lucky. I guess I consider
the most luckiest when it comes to Santhosh for the time he has spent for me. Check his blog and websites. There is
passion, and skill, always. Shine brother!

I am happy to recommend Santhosh Tuppad. He is more than an ideal tester to be part of any project. Few achievements
like the uTest Bug Battle Winner [multiple times], winner of Zappers event, regular contributor to various testing
magazines & communities speak of his passion & also highlight his strong skill-set. Once he became the core member of
WeekendTesting, he took up the responsibility of building the website, integrating Bug Repository with website &
continues to do a good job in maintaining the website as Webmaster. He also has a great repository of ideas to help
Weekend Testing grow. A great asset to any organization - I can assure you that 'Santhosh Tuppad' will achieve a lot
more. Best wishes!

Santhosh Tuppad is an exceptionally talented tester to have in any team. He always works towards the quality of product
by getting deeper into the product from technical aspect and explores innovative bugs. His positive attitude to learn and
also to educate team members is one of the best quality in him. As a core member and moderator of Weekend Testing,
he has faced many challenges and handled them with utmost ease. Extensive knowledge of technologies is a big plus for
him. He is involved in community work on many online testing forums like uTest where he has been delivering great
results consistently. He is a great asset to have in any testing team.

Santosh, is not a typical software tester. He has his own ideologies and practices towards software testing which was
definitely amazing and mindblowing for any developer to listen to. His passion and interests in software testing are
appreciable and it makes me feel proud to have worked closely with him. It was a good learning experience for both of us
during our tenure as colleagues. Really happy for him to have achieved his ambition/goal in starting a software testing
firm. He and his team are doing a fabulous job in the field of software testing and definitely with a totally different
approach. Wishing him all the very best in all his future endeavours. Way to Go Moolya!!

Whenever there is discussion around Security Testing, “Santhosh Tuppad” is one of the names which always come in my
mind. I always knew that Santhosh is passionate Ethical Hacker and Security Consultant but after attending his workshop I
realized what a good speaker he is. The workshop was full of exercises questions and puzzles which make audience to think
about the security as part of their lives. I feel that Critical Thinking is one of very important aspect of his workshop. The
learners come to get some knowledge from him and I didn’t see anyone going back without it. It was a wonderful workshop
and I am eager to attend more sessions from him. He is charismatic speaker who can bind the audiences with his
knowledge and witticism. Thanks Santhosh for sharing the knowledge with us.

13. // SKILLS THAT I POSSESS //
THINKER’S HAT
Thinking is greatness, and greatness is my choice.
I can think testing through Lateral Thinking, Critical Thinking, Cognitive Thinking. Also, apply Psychological Techniques
which helps me understand from a end-user perspective and add value to the project.
I read books on Thinking (For instance, I have read Lateral Thinking by Edward De Bono and also another book by him
which speaks about “Six-Hats of Thinking”. And one of the greatest book I have read is “General Systems Thinking”).
I am thankful to Mr. Plutchik’s for introducing Plutchik’s wheel of emotions which helps me derive tests and find bugs
through emotions based heuristics.
BUG FINDING SKILLS
I love bugs, but just loving is not sufficient. I gotta have skills!
I can find bugs across functional, security, user interface and user experience, automation scripts or code, scalability
issues and more. I wouldn’t call this as “Jack of all, master of none”, but my passion to learn anything related to
software.
FUNCTIONAL
Non-obvious bugs, debugger, great reporter
# finding non-obvious bugs
# reproducing the so called intermittent bugs
# debugging skills for web (using dev tools) and mobile (android and iPhone)
# log file analysis and capturing them
# reporting the functional bugs with appropriate evidence
14. // SKILLS THAT I POSSESS //
SECURITY
USER INTERFACE / USER EXPERIENCE
Certified Ethical Hacker (certification)
# finding web security vulnerabilities since my age 16
# amazing at finding OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities and also exploiting them
# expert at using Burp-Suite vulnerability finding assist tool
# great at using Mantra web browser and expert in usage of hacking web browser add-ons
# have (ethically) hacked tesco.com, myntra.com, hospitals chain in India who violated PHI / HIPAA
compliance, hacked utest.com (crowdsourcing testing company), flash games and more.
# great at finding vulnerabilities, but also more great at providing counter-measure
# bragging right: people know me for my credibility and reputation in security testing and here is one of the
example thread - https://www.stickyminds.com/question/what-are-top-security-testing-companies
First impression is the look and feel… Like Steve Jobs says, “design has to be functional”.
# Heuristic based UI / UX testing
# Closed user group approach to UI / UX testing
# Follower of Don Norman and follows his book “The design of everyday things”
# Follows Plutchik’s wheel of emotions in order to generate test ideas for software
# Well-versed with sketches / mockups / wireframes
15. // SKILLS THAT I POSSESS //
PERFORMANCE
Performance is what shoots up the user eXperience layer...
# not a great performance engineer, but a learner.
# follower of Scott Barber’s teachings in performance engineering.
# can do front-end performance testing and analyse the results.
# well-versed with the web browser add-ons and some of the open source testing tools
# ...and the journey of being a better performance engineer continues
NOTE TAKING SKILLS
Journalism in testing is one of the factor to successful project delivery
# good at making notes
# pay attention to detail and dig deeper to ask questions
# use paper to record notes or use audio recorder (with permission) to not miss any bits and pieces of
information which can invoke many questions to ponder on when listening
# share the notes with the team (this include dev, test, sales, marketing, business analyst, product owner
(if interested).
QUESTIONING SKILLS
Asking the right questions
# questions every bit of a software
# believes his obsessive compulsive disorder as a strength to obtain answers
# questions the software across various features and subfeatures in order to generate tests
# also questions, “Why is questioning skill required in testing?”
