Shift is an employment practice designed to make use of, or
provide service across, all 24 hours of the clock each day of
the week.
The practice typically sees the day divided into "shifts", set
periods of time during which different groups of workers
take up their posts.
The term "shift " includes both long-term night shifts and
work schedules in which employees change or rotate shifts.

On everyday basis any plants operation generates a large amount of events and alarms that
need to be attended by plant resources.
Before and after they actually attend those complaints they need to document the whole
activity carried out by them (in a physical, tangible note book) – in their shift.

reminded or done on a regular basis – shift log book is an answer.
Carry forward tasks or unfinished tasks of a shift needs to be informed to the next shift
resources – shift log book is an answer.

SHIFT LOG BOOK – Problems with the current shift log book
A typical logbook from one of the thermal
plants in India.
It is very difficult to search for the actions
taken on an any event or alarm prior than
2-3 weeks.
The problem is he needs lot of time to
scan through all the pages back, manually.
Moreover there is no workflow in this
kind of manually maintained log book.
This kind of log book does not suggest or
provide any analysis which could lead to
process optimization.
