3. UNIT -1 KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA (KVK)
INTRODUCTION
The first KVK was established in 1974 at Puducherry. The number of KVKs has risen to 645 and 106
more KVKs are to be established in the newly created districts and some larger districts.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Narayangoan was established on 1st June 2010 for the 6 Tahsil (AREA OF
WORKING) in Pune district i.e. Junnar, Ambegaon, Khed, Shirur, Maval, and Mulshi for implementing
various agricultural activities as per the needs of farmers of different localities.
The Gramonnati Mandal Institute of Narayangoan was founded by the late Guruvarya R P
Sabnis.
4. UNIT -1 KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA (KVK)
OBJECTIVE
KVKs activities are being focused to increase the crop production levels of local farmers. KVK also
provides various Inputs and services to farmers such as Soil / Water/ Plant / Fertilizers testing /Bio-
Fertilizers and bio-pesticides, Vermicompost, Vermiwash at a reasonable rate.
KVK also function in various crop production technical trainings, crop demonstrations and on farm
trials and organizes training for the rural youth for self employment and working as an extension
functions for a new agricultural production Technologies.

FUNCTIONING
To produce high-quality planting material.
To organize training for farmers.
To develop and maintain crops.
Conducting skill demonstration.
Conducting need-based and monthly zonal workshops with Extension functionaries.

PROBLEMS
Poor knowledge of recommended technologies for farmers creates difficulty while guiding the farmer.
Also in different villagers, there is a lack of transportation facilities and network issue creates between
KVK and FARMERS.
SUGGESTIONS
Organization of different awareness programs in villages for solving the problems of the farmers.
To create contact with farmers create different WhatsApp groups.

To Improve the Standard of living of Small Farmers by providing improved technology of Vegetable
Production Processing Techniques.
To motivate the vegetable growing groups through Training Camps, Workshops.

Activities Conducted by NGO:
Established 25 FPOS in Maharashtra and 17 FOPs in Punjab and Haryana State.
More than 20000 farmers were trained up to 2019.
Conducted Demonstrations on various farms.
Open Auction Tomato Market was opened in Narayangoan as a part of Social Activity.
PROBLEMS
Lack of Funding and Strategy.
Absence of Networking.
Negligible response from Farmers.

14. HISTORY
ICAR Established a national research center for ONION and GARLIC in VIIIth Plan with its
headquarters at NASHIK in 1994.
Due to some working constraints the center was shifted to Rajgurunagar on 16 June 1998.
December 2008- the center has been upgraded.

FUNCTIONING
The villages were surveyed as per the guidelines of the scheme. The major problems in these villages
were the shortage of irrigation water, lack of guidance about organic farming, etc.
The activities to be undertaken in the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav project have been discussed with village officials
and the Sarpanch of the respective villages.
