MEANING
Impossible to comprehend in one English word:
1. Patience
2. Forbearance/Self-control
3. Perseverance
4. Endurance
5. Steadfastness;
6. Restraint
Whatever you have will end, but what Allah has is
lasting.
And We will surely give those who were patient
their reward
according to the best of what they used to do.
(Surah An-Nahl:96)
O you who have believed, seek help through
patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the
patient.
(Surah Al-Baqarah:153)
TYPES OF SABR
APPLICATION OF SABR –
OBEDIENCE OF ALLAH
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is
between them - so worship Him and have patience for
His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?“
(Surah Maryam:65)
APPLICATION OF SABR – SAVING
ONESELF FROM DISPLEASURE OF
ALLAH
“So be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not
obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful
[disbeliever].”
(Surah Al-Insan:24)
APPLICATION OF SABR – SAVING
ONESELF FROM DISPLEASURE OF
ALLAH
“Paradise is surrounded by things which are difficult,
whereas hellfire is surrounded by things which are
pleasing and glittering”
(Tirmidhi)
APPLICATION OF SABR –
PRESERVANCE IN THE FACE OF
CALAMITY
“O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid
what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you.
Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring]
determination.”
(Surah Luqman:17)
APPLICATION OF SABR –
PRESERVE GOOD FRIENDSHIP
“And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who
call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening,
seeking His countenance. And let not your eyes pass
beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life,
WHY CALAMITY ON MUSLIMS?
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and
hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but
give good tidings to the patient,”
(Surah Al-Baqarah:155)

Say, “O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord.
For those who do good in this world is good, and the
earth of Allah is spacious. Indeed, the patient will be
given their reward without account.”
(Surah Az-Zumar:10)
VIRTUES OF SABR
“How excellent is the case of a faithful servant, there is
good for him in everything and this is not the case with
anyone except him. If prosperity reaches him, he
expresses gratitude to Allah and that is for him and if
adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is
better for him.”
(Muslim)
SO A MUSLIM CANNOT COMPLAIN?
1. Complain to Allah

WHAT SHOULD BE OUR ATTITUDE?
1. Strengthen, faith and trust in Allah, as the owner and
possessor of the entire universe. He who has knowledge,
wisdom and justice totally beyond our comprehension.
2. Have the idea that Allah gave everything and so if He wills, he
can take this property back.
3. Everything that happens, has been decreed by Allah before the
creation of the earth, and so, even if the whole world gathered
to benefit or harm a person, it would not happen unless Allah
so willed.
4. Realize that difficulties may be an atonement for sins and so
persevere through them.
5. In all cases of difficulty, turn to Allah and pray to Him for
