Sabarimala is a Hindu temple complex located in Kerala, India that receives millions of pilgrims annually. The temple is dedicated to the deity Ayyappan. Traditionally, women between 10-50 years old were banned from entering the temple. In 1991, the Kerala High Court upheld this ban. However, a recent Supreme Court ruling overturned the ban and allowed women of all ages to enter, sparking protests from devotees. On the first day of the temple opening after the ruling, several protesters clashed violently with police as women journalists trying to enter were beaten.
