Together with our next
stop, this building was
part of the Aqua Nova
Domitiana Augusta
water main. It was built
in the Ist century, A.D.
It was a castellum aquae
to store water, which
was later delivered to
the city water tanks.

Aqva Nova
Domitiana Augusta
water main,
originally built in the
Roman times. It is a
cistern or water
tank with two
spouts, with its
current construction
dating back from
the XVIIIth century.

because there was a network of
communicating vessels.
It was posible thanks to a system
of:
(a) water tanks, pipes and spouts;
(b) water tanks, water towers and
spouts;
(c) aquaeducts, water tanks and

The iron bridge
It was opened to
traffic on the 5th of
September, 1873. It
was part of the track
that connected
Cordoba and Belmez
(mining area). Steam
locomotives serviced
this line. The bridge is
33 metres high from
the stream bed and it
has a span of 159
metres. It lies on two
central piers.

Los Velascos was the largest
country house in the area. It
is located at 252 metres
above sea level and it has a
large building containing a
large number of rooms, a
stable (West side), an inner
yard and,even, an oven. A
large threshing floor
occupied the Southern part
of the property. The
production of cereal was its
most important labour.

It is the place where
farmers used to separate
the grain from the cereal
plant by some mechanical
means. The grains fell on
the ground and the rest of
the plant was blown by
the wind.

  • 4. Castillo Maimón. Together with our next stop, this building was part of the Aqua Nova Domitiana Augusta water main. It was built in the Ist century, A.D. It was a castellum aquae to store water, which was later delivered to the city water tanks. 4

  • 6. Fuente de La Palomera It was part of the Aqva Nova Domitiana Augusta water main, originally built in the Roman times. It is a cistern or water tank with two spouts, with its current construction dating back from the XVIIIth century. 6

  • 14. A tributary It is also called a feeder. It is a stream that feeds another larger one. The stream on your right is Pedroches; the one on your left is Barrionuevo. Meseta Blanca This is its Southern most tip. It goes by different names: plateau, tableland or mesa. It is a V-shaped limestone plateau surrounded by two streams: Pedroches and Barrionuevo. 14

  • 16. Los Velascos Los Velascos was the largest country house in the area. It is located at 252 metres above sea level and it has a large building containing a large number of rooms, a stable (West side), an inner yard and,even, an oven. A large threshing floor occupied the Southern part of the property. The production of cereal was its most important labour. 16
  • 17. A threshing floor It is the place where farmers used to separate the grain from the cereal plant by some mechanical means. The grains fell on the ground and the rest of the plant was blown by the wind. 17
