Psychological Autopsy: Consultative Tool for Suicide
Determination. Multidisciplinary Medico-Legal Death
Investigation: Role of Consultants, 119.
The book elaborates on psychological autopsy as a crucial way
of trying to make an informed decision on one's mode of death
more so where it is not determined. It entails physical and
laboratory examination of the materials collected at the scene of
death. The study and analysis of the victims’ behavior for a
period before the unfortunate incident. The specialist tries to
first figure out the personality of the individual to try and
compare such traits to those they’re where exhibiting at the
period they are investigating. They do also find out about the
environmental factors to try and understand any circumstance
that may have triggered the event of death. Psychological
autopsy is a very thorough exercise that also requires an
examination of the presence or absence of risk factors and the
degree to which the risk is a predisposing factor.
Meyer, T., Fries, G., Stertz, L., Dyukova, E., Soares, J.,
Sandberg, G., & Walss-Bass, C. (2018). T169. Are Impulsivity
and Gene Expression in Postmortem Brains Associated?
Preliminary Findings from the Psychological Autopsy
Interviews in the UTHealth Brain Collection. Biological
Psychiatry, 83(9), S193-S194.
A postmortem is a crucial aspect when finding out the cause of
death. However, the study of the brain by the autopsy
psychiatrist during a postmortem helps in determining whether
an individual had the tendency of indulging in behaviors and
activities without considering their consequences. For the
impulsivity technique to be more effective it involves the study
of the behavior of the next of Kin to the deceased. This is
because there exists a thin line between homicide and suicide
and you need to have your facts right when making a decision.
This technique is not only important for the forensic scientist
who aims at getting substantial evidence to help in the case of
getting justice for the deceased but also the Insurance
companies that ought to compensate the families of a person
with a life insurance policy.
Hjelmeland, H., & Knizek, B. L. (2016). Qualitative evidence in
suicide: Findings from qualitative psychological autopsy
studies. In Handbook of qualitative health research for
evidence-based practice (pp. 355-371). Springer, New York,
NY.
This book tries to clarify the context of suicide. In most
occurrence for the cases of suicide, much weight is placed on
the fact that one has a mental disorder for those patients who
suffer from bipolar. However, an in-depth survey to a number of
these cases indicates that lack of self-control triggered the
suicide. This is done by putting into consideration how frequent
an individual suffers from mental lapses the behavior they
exhibit and the activities they indulge in. This is compared
traits that one exhibit due to lack of self-control. The
understanding of qualitative research is very important more so
the family of the deceased when making claims to the insurance
companies. However, guidelines ought to be implemented to
avoid the insurance company taking advantage by use of this
model to deny people of their claims.
Bates, K., Sweeting, J., Yeates, L., McDonald, K., Semsarian,
C., & Ingles, J. (2018). Psychological adaptation to molecular
autopsy findings following sudden cardiac death. Genetics in
medicine: official journal of the American College of Medical
Genetics.
This journal tries to distinguish between suicide and natural
cause of death such as a sudden cardiac attack that claims the
life of an individual. In this case, the victims' death will be due
to unidentified conditions as past medical records of the
individual do not suggest an existing medical condition. The
molecular autopsy is then conducted to identify if the victims'
life was claimed by cardiac arrest. When such an investigation
is being carried out all are advised to remain neutral to accept
the results of the test. Insurance firms ought to respect the
findings of a molecular autopsy even when it's not in their best
interest as it will be honoring the agreement they made with the
diseased.
Leenaars, A. (2017). The Psychological Autopsy: A Roadmap
for Uncovering the Barren Bones of the Suicide's Mind.
Routledge.
This book aims at understanding what triggers suicide in
different individuals and the degree to which you ascertain a
death to have been attributed by suicide. It suggests the
guidelines and measures that should take place in autopsy in
determining suicide. This helps an individual family to best
understand and accept the result from this process more so as it
involves their loved one. It so useful when properly
implemented as it ensures that insurance meets their end of the
bargain of a policyholder upon their death. It avoids
unnecessary court cases where families feel that insurance
companies are taking advantage of a given situation as when as
there is profound evidence to back up why the death was
suicidal.

Scenario
You are currently working at NCLEX Memorial Hospital in the
Infectious Diseases Unit. Over the past few days, you have
noticed an increase in patients admitted with a particular
infectious disease. You believe that the ages of these patients
play a critical role in the method used to treat the patients. You
decide to speak to your manager, and together you work to use
statistical analysis to look more closely at the ages of these
patients.
You do some research and put together a spreadsheetof the data
that contains the following information:
· Client number
· Infection disease status
· Age of the patient
You need the preliminary findings immediately so that you can
start treating these patients. So, let’s get to work!
Background information on the Data:
The data set consists of 60 patients that have the infectious
disease with ages ranging from 35 years of age to 76 years of
age for NCLEX Memorial Hospital.
Requirements:
1) Answer the questions below in a PowerPoint presentation.
2) Include only the summary calculations in your slides (not
formulas).

above and the data set that you will be analyzing.
· Slide 3: Classify the variables in your data set.
· Which variables are quantitative/qualitative?
· Which variables are discrete/continuous?
· Describe the level of measurement for each variable included
in the data set (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio)
· Discuss the importance of the Measures of Center and the
Measures of Variation.
· Slide 4: What are the measures of center and why are they
important?
· Slide 5: What are the measures of variation and why are they
important?
· Slide 6: Calculate the measures of center and measures of
variation. Interpret your results in context of the scenario.
· Mean
· Median
· Mode
· Midrange
· Range
· Variance
· Standard deviation
4. Slide 7: Discuss the importance of constructing confidence
intervals for the population mean by answering these questions:
· What are confidence intervals?
· What is a point estimate?
· What is the best point estimate for the population mean?
Explain.
· Why do we need confidence intervals?
5. Slide 8: Construct a 95% confidence interval for the
population mean. Assume that your data is normally distributed
and σ is unknown. Include a statement that correctly interprets
the confidence interval in context of the scenario.
6. Perform the following hypothesis test:
· Original Claim: The average age of all patients admitted to the
hospital with infectious diseases is less than 65 years of age.
· Test the claim using α = 0.05 and assume your data is
normally distributed and σ is unknown.
· Answer the following:
1. Slide 9: Write the null and alternative hypothesis
symbolically and identify which hypothesis is the claim.
2. Slide 9: Is the test two-tailed, left-tailed, or right-tailed?
Explain.
3. Slide 10: Which test statistic will you use for your hypothesis
test; z-test or t-test? Explain.
4. Slide 10: What is the value of the test-statistic? What is the
p-value? What is the critical value?
5. Slide 11: What is your decision; reject the null hypothesis, or
do not reject the null hypothesis?
a. Explain why you made your decision, including the results
for your p-value and the critical value.
6. Slide 11: State the final conclusion in nontechnical terms.
7. Slide 12: Conclude by recapping your ideas by summarizing
the information presented in context of the scenario.
· Include the mean, standard deviation, confidence interval with
interpretation, and results of the hypothesis test.

Everything you do in psychology you have to write it down in
APA. The first insight therefor is reviewing all the resources
where you got your research from, where did you get the
evidence from, and if it was reliable or not? In the literature
review, one has to do a lot of background work. This is a high
demand field and therefore one has to get the empirical
evidence and this is what supports what you are saying on your
paper, such as where you got the evidence from. The second
insight is operationalizing the studies. Here, one needs to
collect the senses then start thinking it through. This is possible
through identification of the specific variables and finding a
way of listing them down. Then find out how the research was
operationalized, the methodologies used, the samples used and
finally look at which features are overlapping each other.
Another important insight is to understand the phenomenon
under consideration. Here the exact research question is
determined. After understanding the questions which need to be
addressed, one the makes sure that you give receptive
feedbacks. Using these insights will be helpful in finalizing my
final project for my course.
I have selected the Jodi Arias murder case. It is a case about
Jodi Arias who killed her ex-lover. The body of Alexander was
found five days disintegrated and it was 27 times stabbed with a
big gash across his throat and on the head a bullet had been
launched. The slayer, his former lover Jodi arias pretended
lacking knowledge about the matter and she pleaded not guilty
(Sarteschi, 2017). It was after the discovery of racy turned
violent encounter images between the two some few hours after
the death of Alexander that she changed the story.
On the 15th of May 2013, the aggravation phase of the case
started. First-degree murder is what Arias was found guilty of,
and the prosecution had to prove to the jury that the murder was
cruel or heinous to make her eligible for the death penalty.
On 16th of May 2013, the penalty phase began with the
prosecutors calling the family members of Alexander to give a
victim impact statement in an effort of convincing the jury that
the crime Aria’s committed merited a death sentence (Alt,
2015). On many of the same month, arias offered an allocation
where she pleaded for a life sentence. She said that she was
avoiding bringing more pain to the members of her family who
were present in the courtroom.
On April 13, 2015, Arias was sentenced to life imprisonment by
Stephens without the possibility of parole. It is said that until
March 5, 2015, her trials cost an estimated $3million. Arias is
expected to spend the rest of her life in Arizona state prison
complex
I propose to research biased which is witnessed in different
cases in the court of law. Taking, for instance, this case of Jodi
Arias, a defense expert who had diagnosed Arias with PTSD by
the name Richard Samuels was suspected by the prosecutor of
having feelings for his patient which made him be biased to his
diagnosis. He diagnosed Arias with post-traumatic stress
disorder and amnesia. This was to ensure that the bench was
more lenient on her side when pronouncing their judgment
Psychotherapist Alyce LaViolette was also accused of biases
concerning the issue about Arias having signed the manifesto
which was not explained in court and which had not been
entered into evidence. The reason for choosing this topic is
because of the increased biases in the court systems which have
diverted justice in the wrong direction.

I have selected the Jodi Arias murder case. The case was about
Jodi who took her ex- lover’s life by stabbing him 27 times and
later shooting him. At first, she pretended to have no idea
about what happened to her ex-lover and pleaded not guilty, but
after the discovery of images of her and the ex-lover few hours
before he died she changed the story.
I am going to use several strategies when conducting this
literature and finding peer-reviewed articles. The first strategy
is based on following the six steps involved in the literature
review process (Webster & Watson, 2016). These steps include
formulating the research questions and objectives, searching the
extant literature, screening for inclusion, assessing the quality
of primary studies, extracting data and finally analyzing it. For
this process to be a success, all these steps should be followed,
since each step plays a certain role in the next step. The first
step which is formulating the research questions, I am going to
develop the search terms to avoid searching for things that are
not relevant to the research. These terms will be based on Jodi
and her ex-lover. In the second step which is searching the
extant literature, I will focus on finding sources such as diaries
that will help me identify what truly happened between Jodi and
her ex-lover before they separated (Edwards, 2018). In the third
step, I will screen the inclusion then later assess the quality of
the first studies which will guide me in extracting data that I
will finally analyze.
The other strategy is based on sticking to the purpose of the
research. I will focus on the case study and avoid wasting time
on things that won’t help me with the case study (Leary &
Kowalski, 2017). The last strategy is avoiding predatory
publishers and journals when I will be carrying out the case
study.

(2018). Psychological Autopsy: Consultative Tool for Suicide Determination. Multidisciplinary Medico-Legal Death Investigation: Role of Consultants, 119. The book elaborates on psychological autopsy as a crucial way of trying to make an informed decision on one's mode of death more so where it is not determined. It entails physical and laboratory examination of the materials collected at the scene of death. The study and analysis of the victims’ behavior for a period before the unfortunate incident. The specialist tries to first figure out the personality of the individual to try and compare such traits to those they’re where exhibiting at the period they are investigating. They do also find out about the environmental factors to try and understand any circumstance that may have triggered the event of death. Psychological autopsy is a very thorough exercise that also requires an examination of the presence or absence of risk factors and the degree to which the risk is a predisposing factor. A postmortem is a crucial aspect when finding out the cause of death. However, the study of the brain by the autopsy psychiatrist during a postmortem helps in determining whether an individual had the tendency of indulging in behaviors and activities without considering their consequences. For the impulsivity technique to be more effective it involves the study of the behavior of the next of Kin to the deceased. This is because there exists a thin line between homicide and suicide and you need to have your facts right when making a decision. This technique is not only important for the forensic scientist who aims at getting substantial evidence to help in the case of getting justice for the deceased but also the Insurance companies that ought to compensate the families of a person with a life insurance policy. Hjelmeland, H., & Knizek, B. L. (2016). Qualitative evidence in suicide: Findings from qualitative psychological autopsy studies. In Handbook of qualitative health research for evidence-based practice (pp. 355-371). Springer, New York, NY. This book tries to clarify the context of suicide. In most occurrence for the cases of suicide, much weight is placed on the fact that one has a mental disorder for those patients who suffer from bipolar. However, an in-depth survey to a number of these cases indicates that lack of self-control triggered the suicide. This is done by putting into consideration how frequent an individual suffers from mental lapses the behavior they exhibit and the activities they indulge in. This is compared traits that one exhibit due to lack of self-control. The understanding of qualitative research is very important more so the family of the deceased when making claims to the insurance companies. However, guidelines ought to be implemented to avoid the insurance company taking advantage by use of this

Psychological adaptation to molecular autopsy findings following sudden cardiac death. Genetics in medicine: official journal of the American College of Medical Genetics. This journal tries to distinguish between suicide and natural cause of death such as a sudden cardiac attack that claims the life of an individual. In this case, the victims' death will be due to unidentified conditions as past medical records of the individual do not suggest an existing medical condition. The molecular autopsy is then conducted to identify if the victims' life was claimed by cardiac arrest. When such an investigation is being carried out all are advised to remain neutral to accept the results of the test. Insurance firms ought to respect the findings of a molecular autopsy even when it's not in their best interest as it will be honoring the agreement they made with the diseased. Leenaars, A. (2017). The Psychological Autopsy: A Roadmap for Uncovering the Barren Bones of the Suicide's Mind. Routledge. This book aims at understanding what triggers suicide in different individuals and the degree to which you ascertain a death to have been attributed by suicide. It suggests the guidelines and measures that should take place in autopsy in determining suicide. This helps an individual family to best understand and accept the result from this process more so as it involves their loved one. It so useful when properly implemented as it ensures that insurance meets their end of the bargain of a policyholder upon their death. It avoids unnecessary court cases where families feel that insurance companies are taking advantage of a given situation as when as there is profound evidence to back up why the death was suicidal.

Over the past few days, you have noticed an increase in patients admitted with a particular infectious disease. You believe that the ages of these patients play a critical role in the method used to treat the patients. You decide to speak to your manager, and together you work to use statistical analysis to look more closely at the ages of these patients. You do some research and put together a spreadsheetof the data that contains the following information: · Client number · Infection disease status · Age of the patient You need the preliminary findings immediately so that you can start treating these patients. So, let’s get to work! Background information on the Data: The data set consists of 60 patients that have the infectious disease with ages ranging from 35 years of age to 76 years of

  • 7. Running Head: SELECTION OF CASE STUDY AND FOCUS AREA 1 SELECTION OF CASE STUDY AND FOCUS AREA 4 Final Project: Selection of Case Study and Focus Areaa Jailya Wooden Walden University Intersection of Crime, Psychology and the Law March 24, 2019 Everything you do in psychology you have to write it down in APA. The first insight therefor is reviewing all the resources where you got your research from, where did you get the evidence from, and if it was reliable or not? In the literature review, one has to do a lot of background work. This is a high
  • 8. demand field and therefore one has to get the empirical evidence and this is what supports what you are saying on your paper, such as where you got the evidence from. The second insight is operationalizing the studies. Here, one needs to collect the senses then start thinking it through. This is possible through identification of the specific variables and finding a way of listing them down. Then find out how the research was operationalized, the methodologies used, the samples used and finally look at which features are overlapping each other. Another important insight is to understand the phenomenon under consideration. Here the exact research question is determined. After understanding the questions which need to be addressed, one the makes sure that you give receptive feedbacks. Using these insights will be helpful in finalizing my final project for my course. I have selected the Jodi Arias murder case. It is a case about Jodi Arias who killed her ex-lover. The body of Alexander was found five days disintegrated and it was 27 times stabbed with a big gash across his throat and on the head a bullet had been launched. The slayer, his former lover Jodi arias pretended lacking knowledge about the matter and she pleaded not guilty (Sarteschi, 2017). It was after the discovery of racy turned violent encounter images between the two some few hours after the death of Alexander that she changed the story. On the 15th of May 2013, the aggravation phase of the case started. First-degree murder is what Arias was found guilty of, and the prosecution had to prove to the jury that the murder was cruel or heinous to make her eligible for the death penalty. On 16th of May 2013, the penalty phase began with the prosecutors calling the family members of Alexander to give a victim impact statement in an effort of convincing the jury that the crime Aria’s committed merited a death sentence (Alt,
  • 9. 2015). On many of the same month, arias offered an allocation where she pleaded for a life sentence. She said that she was avoiding bringing more pain to the members of her family who were present in the courtroom. On April 13, 2015, Arias was sentenced to life imprisonment by Stephens without the possibility of parole. It is said that until March 5, 2015, her trials cost an estimated $3million. Arias is expected to spend the rest of her life in Arizona state prison complex I propose to research biased which is witnessed in different cases in the court of law. Taking, for instance, this case of Jodi Arias, a defense expert who had diagnosed Arias with PTSD by the name Richard Samuels was suspected by the prosecutor of having feelings for his patient which made him be biased to his diagnosis. He diagnosed Arias with post-traumatic stress disorder and amnesia. This was to ensure that the bench was more lenient on her side when pronouncing their judgment Psychotherapist Alyce LaViolette was also accused of biases concerning the issue about Arias having signed the manifesto which was not explained in court and which had not been entered into evidence. The reason for choosing this topic is because of the increased biases in the court systems which have diverted justice in the wrong direction. References Alt, W. (2015). Running Head: FINAL PROJECT: SOURCE STRATEGIES 1 FINAL PROJECT: SOURCE STRATEGIES 2 Final Project: Source Strategies Jailya Wooden Walden University 03/28/2019 I have selected the Jodi Arias murder case. The case was about Jodi who took her ex- lover’s life by stabbing him 27 times and later shooting him. At first, she pretended to have no idea about what happened to her ex-lover and pleaded not guilty, but after the discovery of images of her and the ex-lover few hours before he died she changed the story.
  • 11. I am going to use several strategies when conducting this literature and finding peer-reviewed articles. The first strategy is based on following the six steps involved in the literature review process (Webster & Watson, 2016). These steps include formulating the research questions and objectives, searching the extant literature, screening for inclusion, assessing the quality of primary studies, extracting data and finally analyzing it. For this process to be a success, all these steps should be followed, since each step plays a certain role in the next step. The first step which is formulating the research questions, I am going to develop the search terms to avoid searching for things that are not relevant to the research. These terms will be based on Jodi and her ex-lover. In the second step which is searching the extant literature, I will focus on finding sources such as diaries that will help me identify what truly happened between Jodi and her ex-lover before they separated (Edwards, 2018). In the third step, I will screen the inclusion then later assess the quality of the first studies which will guide me in extracting data that I will finally analyze. The other strategy is based on sticking to the purpose of the research. I will focus on the case study and avoid wasting time on things that won’t help me with the case study (Leary & Kowalski, 2017). The last strategy is avoiding predatory publishers and journals when I will be carrying out the case study. References Edwards, J. R. (2018).
