6. During and After Reading Informational Books and Graphic Organizers
After students complete a web passage, the teacher introduces
the students to the book that the passage is from through guided
reading sessions and/or one-on-one reading conferences.
Developing student’s strategies and skills for reading nonfiction
texts is an essential part of the independent reading component.
Before students read the book, the teacher should assign an
appropriate vocabulary application or comprehension activity that
scaffolds students in developing critical reading for meaning skills.
As students read independently, they should be encouraged to
take notes that will assist them with the task they will complete
after reading the book.
7. Teacher Resources and Assessment:
Teacher’s Resource Guide
The web-based Teacher’s Resource provides support for student’s web-based practice, partnering, teacher
supported instruction, independent student practice, and assessment.
FREE professional development is offered to provide access to information and training specific to strategies used
to differentiate instruction for reading intervention and English language learners.
Teacher’s Guide
includes reading
conference prompts
and mini-lessons to
support instruction.
After reading a book,
comprehension reproducibles
reinforce content reading
strategies and demonstrate
students’ content knowledge.
8. Progress Monitoring
The teacher tools in the web-based portion of the Reading Web are designed to give the teacher
flexibility in grouping students and in assigning passages for students to read. Teachers can add and
edit students, create groups, review student data, listen to student’s recorded passages, and print
reports at any time from any computer.
