2. On Saturday, June 7th at Rockwood Park, Madd Saint John & Area Chapter held our
9th annual STRIDES FOR CHANGES walk. We had one of our largest turn outs to date.
A barbeque sponsored by Sobeys and a large silent auction table was open for bids.
The walk was lead by the Saint John and Kennebecasis Police Forces on
motorcycles, and also by MLA Carl Killen a longtime supporter of our walk.. We’d
like to thank all those who attended or sponsored our walkers. All money raised will
stay locally and will help us educate our youth and support our victims. We’d like to
also thank our major sponsors: Sobeys, AllState, Leisure Time Sales, Wyndam,
Aarons, Downey Ford, K100, Fundy Physiotherapy, and many other local businesses
that made this a huge success.

3. This past year has been quite busy yet exciting for us here at Madd Saint John
& Area Chapter, with lots of events, fundraisers and public awareness
appearances happening . We have done many roadsides this year, encouraging
drivers to Drive Safe & Sober. There has also been some new changes that have
happened. Your local Madd Saint John Area Chapter presented new benches all
across the province from Sussex, to Saint John, to Quispamsis, and to Grand Bay.
These are placed in honour and memory of victims of impaired driving. A special
Thank you to Brenan’s Funeral Homes and Smet Monuments for their involvement
with this project. As you saw in our President’s Note, Gina Hooley is our new
President for our Chapter. She is a hard worker and a well deserved President.
Jennifer Letson, who has been with Madd for over a year, is a great addition to
Our new benches going all across
New Brunswick
this Chapter.
Facts&Information
We need your continued
support to provide education
and prevention in the greater
Saint John area!
MADD Canada estimates there are somewhere between 1,250 and
1,500 impairment-related crash deaths in Canada alone each year
(3.4– 4.1 deaths per day).
43% of all deaths by car crashes are caused by impaired drivers
Impaired driving is 100% preventable! It is a choice, not an accident.
All funds raised stay in the local chapter area!
Madd Canada has a long way from ending impaired driving so we
need YOUR help!
4. Hi Everyone,
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself, my name is Gina Hooley
and I will be the President of the MADD Saint John and Area Chapter for the
upcoming year. I was born and raised in Saint John. I have three small children,
and a wonderful partner Tim. I work full-time for Park Place Apartments. I,
myself, was personally impacted by impaired driving, December 2010. And, if
you're wondering, yes, life is crazy busy.
Regardless of how busy life is today, we must never forget about
tomorrow. I feel it is very important to take the time in life for the small things
and to not forget about others, even if they are not a direct impact on your own
life.
With that being said I became involved with MADD in 2010. I was guided
through many processes by Karen Dunham, both as a victim and as a volunteer. I
have spent the past few years co-coordinating and collecting for the annual
strides fundraiser, as well as participating in grocery bagging days and project red
ribbon.
For those of you who have busy lives, as myself, I want to take this moment
to deeply thank you for attending and participating in Strides 2014. Whether it
was as a participant, a donor, a pledge, or just simply purchasing a ticket. At that
moment you stood above and beyond and took a step in helping us towards our
mission to stop impaired drivers and to support victims of this violent crime. I
look forward to working together with all of you again next year. Together we can
reach for the moon and land on the stars.
Sincerely,
Gina Hooley
The President’s Note
Help your Saint John
community: NVER dink and
