This document is a student assignment on the role of jasmonate against insect herbivory. It discusses several topics: 1) how airborne signals from damaged plants can prime other plants against insect attacks, 2) the specificity of jasmonate-based defenses in plants, and 3) the jasmonate signal pathway and how jasmonic acid regulates plant defenses through the JAZ repressors. It also explores jasmonate-inducible enzymes that degrade amino acids to harm insect guts.
