WHAT ARE WE GOING TO
DO ABOUT IT?
WELCOME TO YOUR FIRST ROLE CLASSROOM!
R: Results
O: Only
L: Learning
E: Environment
An environment where student performance is evaluated on end results and skill mastery rather than
when and how the task was completed. It’s a sort of ROLE REVERSAL where the student becomes the
active and inquiring learner instead of the receiver of lectures and notes, and the teacher becomes the
guiding facilitator of education instead of the holder and distributer of all knowledge.
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Learner Centered (not teacher centered)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Collaboration (talking, sharing, helping)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Cooperation (group work)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Technology (integration, experimentation, creativity)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Year-long Projects, mini-lessons, and PBL’s (project-based learning)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Autonomy (independence with less supervision)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Learners choose HOW to demonstrate learning (choice and voice)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• There are no grades, points, or percentages assigned to learning (no grades!
What?)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Learners get detailed, narrative feedback (true learning and growth….not
one and done!)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• Evaluation is collaborative between the learner and educator (Prove what
you learned!)
WHAT IS A ROLE?
• SE2R: Summarize, Explain, Redirect, Resubmit (you’re not done until you
really get it!)
