1. Rochester Rally Press Release
After 6 weeks of hard work, local FIRST Robotics teams will be bringing their
robots to Penfield High School on Sunday, February 21st from 11am to 3pm to test their
robots on a full scale replica of the competition field built by Team 1511.
Rochester Rally is a mock scrimmage of 2010 game Breakaway designed by
FIRST. Local teams will compete against each other in this mock competition to test out
their robots, refine their designs, and enjoy some friendly competition. This is the 6th
annual rally that Penfield Robotics team 1511 Rolling Thunder has hosted at Penfield
High School
Robotics is a high school level program created by the organization FIRST For
the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST has, over the years
created a game to be played by robotics teams of each high school. Each of these games
is designed to test the engineering ingenuity of the teams that participate.
Breakaway is a highly interactive game, with robot collisions common. The goal
of the game is to have robots shoot balls into four goals in the corners of the field. The
field is divided into three sections by 13.5” tall bumps. Robots can climb over these, or
drive through the tunnel that divides each of the bumps to reach other sections of the
field. At the end of each 2 minute and 15 second match, robots can hang themselves from
the seven foot tall bars connected to the tunnels that bisect the bumps of the field.
Breakaway, is a highly interactive game that’s main basis is off of soccer. The
goal of robots is to go around kicking balls into any one of the four goals in each corner
of the field. Divided into three sections, the field has 13.5” bumps that robots can choose
to overcome over, or under!
