SlideShare a Scribd company logo
Rob Fyfe was appointed a Chief Executive Officer of Air New Zealand in
2005. Mr Fyfe was born in New Zealand in 1961. He was educated at
the University of Canterbury and holds a Bachelor of Engineering
(Mechanical) degree.

Mr Fyfe is married with two children and is a resident of Auckland.

He started his career with the Royal New Zealand Air Force as an officer
cadet. Since leaving the Air Force and before joining Air New Zealand
in 2003, Mr Fyfe has worked in management roles at PostBank, Bank of
New Zealand, National Australia Bank, Telecom(NZ) and ITV Digital.
Rob Fyfe’s Main Role
   Leads Air New Zealand
   Set the strategy and vision for the company
   Builds a culture within the company
   Set goals for the company (both financial and
    productivity)
   Implement the requests of the Air New Zealand Board
Main Reason
        Interested in airplanes, flying and airlines

Other Reasons:
     Mr Fyfe leads by example
          Regularly spends a day doing various jobs within the airline
              Loading baggage
              Serving customers on plane

     Mr Fyfe listens and learns
          For example:- Early in 2005 the company was going to out source aircraft maintenance to overseas
           contractors. This would have meant a loss of a large number of jobs. Mr Fyfe and the Board
           listened to the workers and others and chose to reverse the decision in the best long-term interests
           of the workers and also the company.

     Mr Fyfe tackles difficult tasks
          Mr Fyfe was instrumental in making an apology for the company’s behaviour after the Erebus
           crash in 1979
          He was the face of the company after the crash of an Air New Zealand A320 off the coast of
           France in 2008. He showed sympathy and had empathy with family members and staff effected
           by the crash. He didn’t try and hide anything about the crash.

     Kept the Company profitable and going in very difficult economic times
You are invited to rub shoulders with our very own ‘Rock Star CEO’ Mr Rob Fyfe.
For aspiring leaders who want to understand if a team leadership role is the right career move
for them or for those in the position now to improve their understanding of their role.

What we will be doing for the day
    Have a leadership session with Mr Fyfe to hear his experiences on how to build team
     culture, how to rectify mistakes, actively listen to people and much more.
    During lunch you can meet with Air NZ Chief Pilot Captain David Morgan
    In the afternoon there is a team-building challenge between the present school staff
     members, Board of Trustee and the future leaders ‘students’ from Kohimarama School

All are welcome but special invitation for Mrs Diane Manners, Miss Meegan Hill, Mrs Lesley
Demler, Board of Trustees, Leadership Council, House Captains, Peer Mediators, Road
Patrollers.

Meet at Kohimarama School Hall on Saturday 31st March at 8.30am for a fun filled day of
activities.
