Over the past 15 years, the EDF has invested 450 million euros in Cameroon's road network, rehabilitating and constructing over 1000km of paved roads. While this contributed significantly, a financing gap of 100 million euros per year remained. Road maintenance budgets increased but execution capacity was limited, leading to delays. EDF conditions focused on increasing road funds and reducing overloading, with some success. Overall, EDF engagement helped the sector but its influence decreased as other donors grew and institutional weaknesses limited progress. Continued dialogue is needed to address long-term funding and performance issues.

1) Public transportation such as buses account for 1.7% of all vehicles but consume 25% of transportation energy and emit 30% of transportation emissions due to their high fuel usage.
2) A single diesel bus consumes as much fuel and emits as much emissions daily as 30 gasoline cars. Electric buses provide significant fuel and emissions savings compared to diesel buses.
3) Switching from diesel to electric buses provides daily savings on fuel costs and reduces daily CO2 emissions. The economic and environmental benefits can be substantial at a city-wide scale.
This document discusses methods for measuring transport energy use. It outlines four key ways that energy use statistics can be misleading or incomplete. Specifically, it notes that (1) upstream energy use is often ignored, (2) averages hide differences in operating conditions, (3) other energy needs like infrastructure are excluded, and (4) other impacts beyond energy use alone are not considered. The document advocates using lifecycle analysis and considering a broader set of factors to obtain a more accurate and complete picture of transportation system impacts.
Mitsubishi Motors is committed to increasing electric vehicle production and reducing carbon emissions from vehicles and factories. Their goal is for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to make up 20% of global vehicle sales by 2020, and reduce carbon emissions from vehicles and factories by 50% and 20% respectively compared to 2005 levels. Mitsubishi has launched the i-MiEV electric vehicle based on over 40 years of electric vehicle development experience and 500,000km of real world testing. They are working to expand quick charging infrastructure and see opportunities in markets with incentives and regulations supporting electric vehicle adoption.

In 1986, European leaders agreed to open up their borders to the free movement of goods, capital, people and services. Ever since, the European single market has ensured trade, competition, consumer choice, employment and prosperity in Europe. Yet 25 years later, there is still no single market in electricity. Consumers are supplied with electricity that is generally produced nationally, and as competition is ineffective, electricity suppliers can pass any price increase onto that same consumer.
In order to achieve a single market in electricity, Europe needs both the electricity network to transport electricity from one part of Europe to another, and a common set of market rules. April 2011.

The Rise and Fall of Ponzi Schemes in America.pptxDiana Rose
Ponzi schemes, a notorious form of financial fraud, have plagued America’s investment landscape for decades. Named after Charles Ponzi, who orchestrated one of the most infamous schemes in the early 20th century, these fraudulent operations promise high returns with little or no risk, only to collapse and leave investors with significant losses. This article explores the nature of Ponzi schemes, notable cases in American history, their impact on victims, and measures to prevent falling prey to such scams.
Understanding Ponzi Schemes
A Ponzi scheme is an investment scam where returns are paid to earlier investors using the capital from newer investors, rather than from legitimate profit earned. The scheme relies on a constant influx of new investments to continue paying the promised returns. Eventually, when the flow of new money slows down or stops, the scheme collapses, leaving the majority of investors with substantial financial losses.
Historical Context: Charles Ponzi and His Legacy
Charles Ponzi is the namesake of this deceptive practice. In the 1920s, Ponzi promised investors in Boston a 50% return within 45 days or 100% return in 90 days through arbitrage of international reply coupons. Initially, he paid returns as promised, not from profits, but from the investments of new participants. When his scheme unraveled, it resulted in losses exceeding $20 million (equivalent to about $270 million today).
Notable American Ponzi Schemes
1. Bernie Madoff: Perhaps the most notorious Ponzi scheme in recent history, Bernie Madoff’s fraud involved $65 billion. Madoff, a well-respected figure in the financial industry, promised steady, high returns through a secretive investment strategy. His scheme lasted for decades before collapsing in 2008, devastating thousands of investors, including individuals, charities, and institutional clients.
2. Allen Stanford: Through his company, Stanford Financial Group, Allen Stanford orchestrated a $7 billion Ponzi scheme, luring investors with fraudulent certificates of deposit issued by his offshore bank. Stanford promised high returns and lavish lifestyle benefits to his investors, which ultimately led to a 110-year prison sentence for the financier in 2012.
3. Tom Petters: In a scheme that lasted more than a decade, Tom Petters ran a $3.65 billion Ponzi scheme, using his company, Petters Group Worldwide. He claimed to buy and sell consumer electronics, but in reality, he used new investments to pay off old debts and fund his extravagant lifestyle. Petters was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 50 years in prison.
4. Eric Dalius and Saivian: Eric Dalius, a prominent figure behind Saivian, a cashback program promising high returns, is under scrutiny for allegedly orchestrating a Ponzi scheme. Saivian enticed investors with promises of up to 20% cash back on everyday purchases. However, investigations suggest that the returns were paid using new investments rather than legitimate profits. The collapse of Saivian l
