2. You Could Install This!
• circulator and radiant system
Injection
circulator in one
package
• Only 4
connections
• Must be
piped Primary
- Secondary
• Explain how variable
speed injection mixing works:
Injection circulator pumps hot primary water into
secondary to mix with cooler radiant return water.
The injection circulator will speed up or slow down
to reach the target temperature on the radiant side.
3. Do Some Math!
• Radiant system – 38,000 BTUH, 100 ΔT
1400 Radiant
Supply
– 7.6 GPM, 5’ head loss 1800 Boiler
Supply
– 1400 SWT, 1300 RWT
• Injection pipe sizing:
38,000
– GPM =
50 x 500
– GPM = 1.52
– What size injection legs? ½” copper

5. A Sizing Exercise
• 53,000 BTUH; 200 ΔT
1800 in
– 1150 SWT; 1050 RWT 1050 in
1800 primary
1150 out
• Radiant flow:
– GPM = BTUH ÷ ΔT X 500
– GPM = 53,000 ÷ 20 X 500
– GPM = 5.3 1150 out
• Injection flow:
• GPM = 53,000 ÷ 65 x 500
• GPM = 1.63
• What size pipe? ½” copper
6. Size The Circulators
• Injection legs : 22 feet total run
• Injection head loss: 1.32’
• Plot operating point:
• RFH head loss: 6’
• RFH supply pipe:
•
38 feet total run
• Supply head
loss: 2.3’
• Total head:8.3’
• Plot •
operating point:
7. General Sizing
Guidelines…
• RFH @ 100 ΔT:
– 15K to 45K BTUH
– 3 to 9 GPM
• RFH @ 200 ΔT:
– 30k to 90k BTUH
– 3 to 9 GPM
• What determines how big of a job the
RMB can handle? The injection Delta T – the
wider the injection Delta T, the more BTU’s the RMB
can deliver.
• Alternatives for larger jobs? Taco 00-VS
variable speed injection circulators with control built
in. Available in larger circulators.
• Alternatives for smaller jobs? Taco 3-way
iValve with reset control – great for jobs 3 GPM and
under
9. Easy Programming
• View screen &
programming buttons
• What does the “View”
menu do? Gives user
current information on
what system is doing.
• What does the “
Adjust” menu do?
It puts RMB into
programming mode
• How do you change settings? Press
Menu button until in Adjust Menu, then use arrow
keys to program setting. Press Item button to move
to next Item, continue programming.
10. Define The Items
• Define each item in View menu:
– OUT: Current outdoor temperature
– MIX TARG: Target temp for RFH supply water
– MIX SUP: Actual current RFH supply water temp
– BOIL: Current boiler return water temperature
• Define each item in the Adjust menu:
– OUT DSGN: Outdoor temp used for heat loss
– MIX DSGN: RFH supply temp wanted at Outdoor Design temp
– MIX MAX: Max RFH supply temp allowed
– MIX MIN: Minimum RFH supply temp wanted
– BOIL MIN: Min boiler return temp – to protect CI boilers
– WWSD: Warm weather shut down – disables system when
note needed
– UNITS: Fahrenheit or centigrade
