RIOXX in 6 Slides
2. What is RIOXX and where did it come from?
• a metadata application profile for institutional repositories, with some particular
features:
• unambiguous identification of repository full text
• explicit declaration of licenses
• expression of APC status
• use of persistent identifiers for authors (e.g. ORCID) and funders (e.g. DOI
or ISNI).
• current version 2.0
• released in January 2015
• developed by EDINA and Chygrove Ltd.
• sponsored by RCUK
• supported by HEFCE
• funded and supported by Jisc
Main Use case:
Reporting on OA status to
UK research funders
3. Where is RIOXX deployed and used?
• supported by DSpace with plugin developed by Atmire (all versions since v3)
• partially supported in ePrints
• implemented in > 60 UK repositories
• Recommended by the Core aggregation service as the best metadata profile
for harvesting records from repositories
• Used by Core for harvesting metadata from UK repositories to aggregate and
pass onto UK research funders (funded and supported by Jisc)
4. How is RIOXX managed and maintained?
• RIOXX is maintained by Antleaf Ltd as a free contribution to the community
• RIOXX website:
• RIOXX sources (specification, website etc.):
5. What are the next steps for RIOXX?
• Core have requested technical revisions to RIOXX
• will be discussed completely openly in the issue tracker on the Github
repository:
• if ratified by the RIOXX Governance Group, then implemented in the
specification by Antleaf
• Antleaf has asked the community to take governance responsibility, to
oversee and ratify technical revisions
• UKCORR has agreed to take responsibility for the governance of the RIOXX
specification
• new RIOXX Governance Group had first meeting last week
6. The RIOXX Governance Group
• UKCORR now has governance responsibility for RIOXX
• any revisions to the RIOXX standard must be ratified by the RIOXX
Governance Group
• membership:
• majority from UKCORR community, chaired by UKCORR member
• director of Antleaf
• possible inclusion of technical experts, including from Core
• the RIOXX Governance Group will be inviting new members from the wider
UKCORR membership in the next few weeks
• the membership, charter, meeting minutes etc. will be published openly on
the RIOXX website
7. Why should you care about RIOXX?
1. RIOXX is recommended by Core as the best standard for supplying
metadata from your institutional repository
2. RIOXX is already being used for this purpose, is implemented by >60
repositories in the UK, and is probably supported by your repository
platform already
3. RIOXX is now "owned" by the UK institutional repository (via UKCORR)
4. You now have the opportunity to directly influence the governance and the
development of the standard
RIOXX belongs to you!
