This full-time position was responsible for bringing more theological
and ethical disciplines, both academically and clinically, to the study and
practice of nursing. The primary classroom teaching commitments were in
two courses: HEST-187: Problem of Suffering, Religious Perspectives
(undergraduate) and NURO-518: Health Care Ethics (graduate). NURO-
518 was regularly taught in both physical-campus and online classrooms.
This was a new position created to allow me to serve as the first theologian
to join the Department of Nursing faculty as a full-time professor. Along
with my primary teaching duties, I also served consulted with School of
Nursing & Health Studies faculty, staff, and students to increase
knowledge and application of the Ignatian principles within our particular
academic school and the larger Georgetown campus community. As part of
my work facilitating Ignatian formation, I gave regular talks on Ignatian
Spirituality to graduate nursing students during their campus intensives;
and researched and wrote an original faculty development training
resource, Ignatian Spirituality and Nursing Education at Georgetown
University, which is still utilized to orient our new on-campus and
distance-based nursing faculty. Additionally, I developed a reflective
learning, experiential curriculum resource for the NURO-518: Health Care
Ethics course now offered exclusively in online curricula. The course lead
professor, Carol Taylor, asked that I train other bioethics instructors to use
this original resource in their own teaching in our department.

committed Protestant Chaplaincy presence and ritual programming to
Georgetown’s Law and Medical School communities, with emphasis on
student population and needs. As the first Protestant clergy to serve in this
new role, I created, planned, and led weekly, monthly and semester-
specific Protestant-centric worship services, prayer groups, retreat days,
and weekend retreats for the law school community while also creating and
facilitating a weekly interfaith prayer and reflection service at the law
school. Worked in cooperation with my interfaith ministry colleagues on
both the law and medical school campuses on budget management and
spiritual care for all campus community members. Regularly served as a
spiritual director on the ministry team for Ignatian-based interfaith Prayer-
in-Daily-Life retreats at the law school. Additionally, provided
programming and presence during school-wide events on both campuses
(Match Day, New Student Orientation, Memorial Services, Anatomical
Donor Mass, etc.). Planned and led weekly Protestant prayer services and
regularly met with faculty and students for spiritual direction at the medical
school. Hired, trained, and supervised two different Georgetown students
who served consecutively as pianist/ music director for the law school’s
Sunday evening Protestant congregation. Regular availability and work in
ministerial presence, pastoral care, and spiritual direction were central to
