Lab42 - A Closer Look at Millennials & HousingRobert Maihofer
- Millennials are less likely to own homes than previous generations due to high college debt, difficult economic conditions, and a preference to rent. While most Millennial renters and homeowners are satisfied with their current housing arrangements, nearly 70% of renters plan to purchase a home.
- Housing is considered affordable for the majority of Millennial renters and homeowners based on their reported monthly costs. However, renters are more likely to have lower monthly costs and incomes.
- The top reasons for both renting and owning are affordability and location preferences. Millennials also value flexibility when renting but financial security when owning. Most Millennials plan to self-fund down payments without family assistance.
To supplement Qorvis MSLGROUP's Guide to the Trump Administration, we have created a set of appendencies highlighting expected cabinet and staff appointments as of 12/1/2016.

Issue Tracking: How News 'Moves' Through the Mediaevolve24
Target experienced a data breach in late 2013. Within a few minutes of the first blog post, the story spread like wildfire and placed Target in the national spotlight -- and not for a good reason.
This presentation demonstrates how an issue can be tracked by evolve24 to mitigate issues, manage communications and monitor reputation loss.
Political sites and blogs are increasingly influential in elections by providing relentless coverage of campaigns. They engage users through commenting features, allowing people to post entries and comments. This fosters debate and keeps discussions alive. Data shows some political sites now get as many visitors as mainstream news sites. Their partisan commentary may contribute to an "echo chamber" effect where like-minded views reinforce each other. Campaigns are recognizing the importance of these sites and targeting them with online ads.
The document discusses how Barack Obama successfully leveraged social media in his 2008 presidential campaign. It describes how his campaign used platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter to share its message, organize supporters, fundraise, and ultimately engage more voters than previous campaigns. The use of new media helped Obama connect directly with constituents, lower costs, and empower grassroots supporters to take ownership over the campaign. This level of online participation and continual engagement after the election represented a significant change from previous top-down campaign models.
The document provides an overview of communications strategies and tactics for the NAACP, including identifying goals and audiences, crafting messages and talking points, utilizing various media like press releases and advisories, pitching stories to reporters, conducting interviews, and holding meetings with editorial boards. It offers tips and examples for each strategy to help communicators effectively engage the media and public on issues.
1) Voxco was mandated to analyze the 2012 US elections on social networks, focusing on Indiana where telephone surveys were also conducted. The goal was to understand emerging themes and sentiments around candidates over time.
2) Using its Acuity4 Social platform, Voxco circumscribed relevant web content and tracked mentions of candidates to extract contextual data and sentiments. This allowed comparisons of topics associated with different candidates.
3) The analysis revealed changing themes around candidates like negative responses to comments about rape and abortion by Republican Richard Mourdock, contributing to the unexpected election of Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly in Indiana. Social network analysis can provide insights into political outcomes.
The document contains lecture slides from a textbook on American politics discussing the role of media in politics. It covers several topics: the different types of news media and their role as watchdogs; the rise of technology and regulation of broadcast media; the emergence of conglomerates and internet sources; how politicians use media and demands on reporters; and the effects of media on public perceptions through filtering, framing and priming. It also includes sample poll questions and additional slides with images.

The Obama 2008 presidential campaign utilized new media to build the Obama brand from low name recognition to the presidency over two years. [1] The campaign prioritized new media and staffed it equally with other divisions, gathering a database of 13 million supporters through compelling content on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, email and mobile. [2] Testing, measurement, and optimization were central to the data-driven new media strategy of fundraising, volunteer mobilization, and communicating a focused, consistent message of change. [3] Obama's grassroots, supporter-centered approach revolutionized political new media and helped him become the 2008 Marketer of the Year.
This document contains lecture slides from a textbook on American politics and public opinion. It discusses key topics around public opinion, including what public opinion is, how it is measured through polls and surveys, how opinions are formed through socialization and groups, and how public opinion can influence government policymaking. It also includes sample poll questions and additional slides with figures and photos illustrating public opinion on issues like the economy, immigration, and terrorism.

This document analyzes and compares the content of tweets from a 2011 Iowa Republican primary debate with news coverage of the debate and the actual debate transcript. A quantitative analysis found that tweets focused more on strategy and the media's role than policy issues, unlike the news coverage and debate transcript which centered more on policy. Qualitative analysis showed tweets heavily discussed Mitt Romney's $10,000 bet offer and the ABC moderators, indicating tweets prioritized strategy over substance and were more critical of the staged nature of debates. The implications are that tweets provided less policy discussion and could increase cynicism, and that news coverage is still needed for substantive discussion rather than relying solely on social media.
Public relations has evolved from press agents in the early 20th century to encompass relationship building and two-way communication. The profession aims to help organizations adapt to their various publics. There are over 275,000 PR professionals in the US working in fields like media relations, community outreach, and crisis management. While the job outlook is strong with a projected 24% growth rate, salaries range from $28,000 for entry-level to nearly $90,000 for top earners, with corporate communications paying more. The Public Relations Society of America is the major professional organization.
The document discusses the evolution of the public relations field over several decades from the 1940s to present day. It notes that PRSSA, the student arm of the PRSA, was established in 1968. It also discusses how public relations has grown to become a strategic function within organizations, with many PR leaders now reporting directly to the C-suite. The document concludes by discussing new opportunities for PR professionals in digital communications and highlights the importance of ethics in the field.

• In coverage, all the words are ranked in terms of frequency of mention. The words with the
highest frequency of mention are collected to build a keyword matrix to see which pairs of
keywords often appear together in the text.
• Words that appear together in sentences are given more weight than words that appear
together in paragraphs and articles. Network analysis software is used to create a network
of keywords.
• The size of the links and nodes represent the salience of the keywords in the text.
• Keywords in the same color form a main concept/theme that consistently appears together
