Rich Marine Grade Aluminum Alloys
Abstract: There are rich marine grade aluminum alloy including marine
aluminum sheet and marine aluminum extrusions. The alloys are 5083, 5086,
5052, 1561, 5059, 5456 6082, 6063,etc.
Aluminum 5083 for Fishing Boat
Aluminum alloy fishing boats have obvious weight advantages. Its weight is
only one-quarter of that of other materials, so its fuel consumption will also be
saved by one-fifth. Generally speaking, the usable area of the inner deck of an
aluminum alloy fishing boat is larger.
In the ship design industry, aluminum 5083 is mostly used for the main deck
of the ship, the diesel engine pedestal and the hull of the ship. The chosen
tempers are H116, H321 and H112. 5083H111 and 5083H112 themselves
belong to the same 5083 aluminum alloy. They are essentially the same and
have no difference in chemical composition.
5086, 5083 and 5052 aluminum alloys are recognized as marine grade
aluminum. They have excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, surface
treatment and medium strength. The difference in chemical composition also
makes the mechanical properties different between 5083 and 5052 alloy.
Whether it is tensile strength or yield strength, 5083 aluminum plate is much
stronger than 5052 aluminum plate.
Aluminum alloy yachts for freshwater lakes are mostly made of 5052-H32 or
5052-0 aluminum plates, while luxury yachts at sea are generally made of
high-magnesium alloy 5083H116 or 5083H321 aluminum plates. They
undergo special processing techniques and have good corrosion resistance.
5083 aluminum alloy is a typical alloy among Al-Mg alloys. It cannot be
strengthened by heat treatment. It has the characteristics of medium strength,
good corrosion resistance, weldability, and easy processing and forming. 5083
alloy plates in different heat treatment states are the main raw materials used
in armored vehicles, ships, automobile manufacturing, and canning industries.
Any type of aluminum small boat with 5083 aluminum plate will last for
decades without suffering any significant corrosion. Retirement of such
vessels is usually due to technological obsolescence rather than the
deterioration of the aluminum structure.
Marine Grade Aluminum 5086 and 1561
5059 and 1561 aluminum plates are the highest-end marine aluminum alloys
and are currently recognized as the most technically difficult high-end marine
aluminum alloys in the industry. 1561 aluminum plate is an aluminum alloy with
low density, high specific strength and good elongation.
1561 aluminum alloy is a new type of anti-rust aluminum alloy developed on
the basis of the existing Al-Mg series to increase the Mg and Mn content and
reduce the content of impurity elements to meet the needs of high
corrosion-resistant load-bearing components.
Compared with 5083 aluminum alloy, 1561 aluminum alloy has higher strength.
With the trend of high-speed, lightweight and large-scale ship manufacturing,
1561 aluminum alloy will become the preferred material to improve the quality
and performance of ships.
After the 1561 aluminum alloy undergoes solution treatment, the precipitated
phase and the segregated Mg element at the grain boundary are dissolved
back into the aluminum matrix. The alloy's resistance to intergranular corrosion
is improved and the susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking is reduced. The
dispersed phase Al_6 (Fe, Mn) phase in the alloy, as a cathode phase, can
cause corrosion of the nearby aluminum matrix, which is the main form of
pitting corrosion in 1561 aluminum alloy.
Marine grade aluminum 5086 is the the recommended hull material for small
aluminum boats and large yachts. Its high strength and excellent corrosion
resistance make it ideal for yachts. The tensile strength of 5454 aluminum
alloy sheet is the same as that of 5086 aluminum alloy. The United States
mainly uses 5456 aluminum alloy, but recently used 5086-O aluminum alloy
plates and 5086-H111 aluminum alloy extruded profiles on high-speed boats.
5086 aluminum plate belongs to the 5xxx Al-Mg alloy. The magnesium content
generally does not exceed 7%. As the magnesium content increases, the
strength of the alloy will increase, while the plasticity will decrease. is usually
used in the annealed state, cold work hardening or semi cold work hardening
state. Due to the role of magnesium, 5086 anti-rust aluminum plates have a
much higher density than other aluminum plates and have very good corrosion
resistance.
Marine Grade Aluminum 5086 5456
Marine grade aluminum 5086 is an aluminum-magnesium alloy. It is
strengthened not by heat treatment, but by strain hardening or cold working of
the material. 5086 alloy is easily welded and retains most of its mechanical
strength. 5086 aluminum s the recommended hull material for small aluminum
boats and larger yachts. Its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance
make it ideal for yachts. 5086 h116 aluminum is a popular choice.
A tugboat refers to a ship used to tow barges and ships. It has firm structure,
good stability, small hull, large main engine power, large traction force and
good maneuverability. Tugboats can also be made of aluminum alloy. The hull
of the American "Sauter" tugboat is welded with 5083 and 5086 alloys, and the
manufacturing time is about 30% shorter than that of steel barges.
Al-Mg alloys are used in many countries as hull structural materials. From
1966 to 1971, the United States built 14 "Ashville" class high-speed gunboats.
The main deck and bottom plate were made of 12.7mm thick 5086-H32
aluminum alloy, and the profiles were made of 5086-H112 aluminum alloy.
The United States mainly uses marine grade aluminum 5456. The Mg content
of 5456 alloy is 5 wt%, which is much higher than 3 wt%. This
corrosion-sensitive alloy is susceptible to stress corrosion both in plate
fabrication and in service. Sensitive stress corrosion can only occur under the
combined action of three factors: organizational structure, corrosive medium,
and stress.
The 5456 aluminum alloy plate can adapt to the long-term humid marine
environment, has good corrosion resistance, vibration resistance, and
excellent low temperature performance, and the price of the 5456 aluminum
plate is relatively reasonable, and the shipbuilding cost is low. 5456 aluminum
alloy plate is widely used in shipbuilding, which shows its excellent
characteristics.
In shorter aging time, the weight loss of 5456-H116 alloy is almost twice that of
5083-H116 alloy. When the aging time exceeds 150 h, the weight loss of the
5083-H116 alloy is much higher than that of the 5456-H116 alloy, indicating
that after the aging time is >100 h, the corrosion sensitivity of the 5456 alloy is
much lower than that of the 5083-H116 alloy.
6082 6063 Aluminum Alloys for Ships
For the ships, the largest amount of metal material is hull structural steel,
which is the key structural carrier of the entire ship, followed by aluminum alloy.
Compared with steel, aluminum alloy has the characteristics of low density,
high specific strength, non-magnetic, high electrical and thermal conductivity,
etc. It is the first choice material for manufacturing small and medium-sized
ship hulls, superstructures and other warehouse surface equipment.
6063 aluminum belongs to the 6 series alloy, which is an alloy of aluminum,
magnesium and silicon. The magnesium content is between 0.45-0.9%, and
the silicon content is between 0.2-0.6%. Although the alloy content is very
small, it greatly changes the properties of aluminum. Silicon increases the
hardness of aluminum alloys, and magnesium increases the corrosion
resistance of aluminum alloys.
The hardness of 6063-t6 aluminum is slightly lower than that of 6061T6
aluminum plate. Usually the hardness of 6063T6 can reach around 85HB, but
6063 also has many superior features, such as excellent extrudability and
weldability. Applications requiring higher strength often use 6061 or 6082
instead.
6082 aluminum alloy aluminum plate has medium strength and good corrosion
resistance, and is light in weight. It is an ideal material for manufacturing
high-speed ship parts. Its composition contains Mn, so its corrosion resistance
and welding performance are better. The use of 6082 is more common in
marine ship plates and components.
6082 aluminum alloy is mainly available in four states: O, T4, T6, and T651.
They have very good anode reaction properties. Commonly used anode
reaction properties include the removal of impurities and variegated colors.
The air conditioning ducts we use are made of 6082 aluminum alloy plates.
6082-O and 6082-T4 are suitable for bending and forming applications while
6082-T5 and T6 are suitable for good machinability requirements. Some
specific processing requires the use of chip separators or other special
processes to help separate chips.

Rich Marine Grade Aluminum Alloys

  • 1. Rich Marine Grade Aluminum Alloys Abstract: There are rich marine grade aluminum alloy including marine aluminum sheet and marine aluminum extrusions. The alloys are 5083, 5086, 5052, 1561, 5059, 5456 6082, 6063,etc. Aluminum 5083 for Fishing Boat Aluminum alloy fishing boats have obvious weight advantages. Its weight is only one-quarter of that of other materials, so its fuel consumption will also be saved by one-fifth. Generally speaking, the usable area of the inner deck of an aluminum alloy fishing boat is larger. In the ship design industry, aluminum 5083 is mostly used for the main deck of the ship, the diesel engine pedestal and the hull of the ship. The chosen tempers are H116, H321 and H112. 5083H111 and 5083H112 themselves belong to the same 5083 aluminum alloy. They are essentially the same and have no difference in chemical composition.
  • 2. 5086, 5083 and 5052 aluminum alloys are recognized as marine grade aluminum. They have excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, surface treatment and medium strength. The difference in chemical composition also makes the mechanical properties different between 5083 and 5052 alloy. Whether it is tensile strength or yield strength, 5083 aluminum plate is much stronger than 5052 aluminum plate. Aluminum alloy yachts for freshwater lakes are mostly made of 5052-H32 or 5052-0 aluminum plates, while luxury yachts at sea are generally made of high-magnesium alloy 5083H116 or 5083H321 aluminum plates. They undergo special processing techniques and have good corrosion resistance. 5083 aluminum alloy is a typical alloy among Al-Mg alloys. It cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. It has the characteristics of medium strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability, and easy processing and forming. 5083 alloy plates in different heat treatment states are the main raw materials used in armored vehicles, ships, automobile manufacturing, and canning industries.   • 3. decades without suffering any significant corrosion. Retirement of such vessels is usually due to technological obsolescence rather than the deterioration of the aluminum structure. Marine Grade Aluminum 5086 and 1561 5059 and 1561 aluminum plates are the highest-end marine aluminum alloys and are currently recognized as the most technically difficult high-end marine aluminum alloys in the industry. 1561 aluminum plate is an aluminum alloy with low density, high specific strength and good elongation. 1561 aluminum alloy is a new type of anti-rust aluminum alloy developed on the basis of the existing Al-Mg series to increase the Mg and Mn content and reduce the content of impurity elements to meet the needs of high corrosion-resistant load-bearing components. Compared with 5083 aluminum alloy, 1561 aluminum alloy has higher strength. With the trend of high-speed, lightweight and large-scale ship manufacturing, 1561 aluminum alloy will become the preferred material to improve the quality and performance of ships.
  • 4. After the 1561 aluminum alloy undergoes solution treatment, the precipitated phase and the segregated Mg element at the grain boundary are dissolved back into the aluminum matrix. The alloy's resistance to intergranular corrosion is improved and the susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking is reduced. The dispersed phase Al_6 (Fe, Mn) phase in the alloy, as a cathode phase, can cause corrosion of the nearby aluminum matrix, which is the main form of pitting corrosion in 1561 aluminum alloy. Marine grade aluminum 5086 is the the recommended hull material for small aluminum boats and large yachts. Its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance make it ideal for yachts. The tensile strength of 5454 aluminum alloy sheet is the same as that of 5086 aluminum alloy. The United States mainly uses 5456 aluminum alloy, but recently used 5086-O aluminum alloy plates and 5086-H111 aluminum alloy extruded profiles on high-speed boats. 5086 aluminum plate belongs to the 5xxx Al-Mg alloy. The magnesium content generally does not exceed 7%. As the magnesium content increases, the strength of the alloy will increase, while the plasticity will decrease. is usually used in the annealed state, cold work hardening or semi cold work hardening state.   • 5. much higher density than other aluminum plates and have very good corrosion resistance. Marine Grade Aluminum 5086 5456 Marine grade aluminum 5086 is an aluminum-magnesium alloy. It is strengthened not by heat treatment, but by strain hardening or cold working of the material. 5086 alloy is easily welded and retains most of its mechanical strength. 5086 aluminum s the recommended hull material for small aluminum boats and larger yachts. Its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance make it ideal for yachts. 5086 h116 aluminum is a popular choice. A tugboat refers to a ship used to tow barges and ships. It has firm structure, good stability, small hull, large main engine power, large traction force and good maneuverability. Tugboats can also be made of aluminum alloy. The hull of the American "Sauter" tugboat is welded with 5083 and 5086 alloys, and the manufacturing time is about 30% shorter than that of steel barges.
  • 6. Al-Mg alloys are used in many countries as hull structural materials. From 1966 to 1971, the United States built 14 "Ashville" class high-speed gunboats. The main deck and bottom plate were made of 12.7mm thick 5086-H32 aluminum alloy, and the profiles were made of 5086-H112 aluminum alloy. The United States mainly uses marine grade aluminum 5456. The Mg content of 5456 alloy is 5 wt%, which is much higher than 3 wt%. This corrosion-sensitive alloy is susceptible to stress corrosion both in plate fabrication and in service. Sensitive stress corrosion can only occur under the combined action of three factors: organizational structure, corrosive medium, and stress. The 5456 aluminum alloy plate can adapt to the long-term humid marine environment, has good corrosion resistance, vibration resistance, and excellent low temperature performance, and the price of the 5456 aluminum plate is relatively reasonable, and the shipbuilding cost is low. 5456 aluminum alloy plate is widely used in shipbuilding, which shows its excellent characteristics. In shorter aging time, the weight loss of 5456-H116 alloy is almost twice that of 5083-H116 alloy. When the aging time exceeds 150 h, the weight loss of the 5083-H116 alloy is much higher than that of the 5456-H116 alloy, indicating that after the aging time is >100 h, the corrosion sensitivity of the 5456 alloy is much lower than that of the 5083-H116 alloy. 6082 6063 Aluminum Alloys for Ships For the ships, the largest amount of metal material is hull structural steel, which is the key structural carrier of the entire ship, followed by aluminum alloy. Compared with steel, aluminum alloy has the characteristics of low density, high specific strength, non-magnetic, high electrical and thermal conductivity, etc. It is the first choice material for manufacturing small and medium-sized ship hulls, superstructures and other warehouse surface equipment.
  • 7. 6063 aluminum belongs to the 6 series alloy, which is an alloy of aluminum, magnesium and silicon. The magnesium content is between 0.45-0.9%, and the silicon content is between 0.2-0.6%. Although the alloy content is very small, it greatly changes the properties of aluminum. Silicon increases the hardness of aluminum alloys, and magnesium increases the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys. The hardness of 6063-t6 aluminum is slightly lower than that of 6061T6 aluminum plate. Usually the hardness of 6063T6 can reach around 85HB, but 6063 also has many superior features, such as excellent extrudability and weldability. Applications requiring higher strength often use 6061 or 6082 instead. 6082 aluminum alloy aluminum plate has medium strength and good corrosion resistance, and is light in weight. It is an ideal material for manufacturing high-speed ship parts. Its composition contains Mn, so its corrosion resistance and welding performance are better. The use of 6082 is more common in marine ship plates and components.
  • 8. 6082 aluminum alloy is mainly available in four states: O, T4, T6, and T651. They have very good anode reaction properties. Commonly used anode reaction properties include the removal of impurities and variegated colors. The air conditioning ducts we use are made of 6082 aluminum alloy plates. 6082-O and 6082-T4 are suitable for bending and forming applications while 6082-T5 and T6 are suitable for good machinability requirements.
