In 2010 I COMMENCED STUDYING FOR MY Cert IV in OHS, MY
OBJECTIVE BEING TO REDIRECT MY CAREER TOWARD THE OHS
FIELD. I HAVE SUCCESFULY ACHIEVED THIS AND HAVE BEEN
ACTIVELY WORKING IN THE AREA FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS.
The information below relates to my previous career as a Counsellor and
Manager with the Western Australian Public Service specialising in the area of
Youth Justice. I held a number of positions over a 23 year period were I as

relating to offending and anti-social behaviour.
Note: In my work as Team Leader, Supervisor and Manager with the WA Public

positions did not exist. Working with people in the Justice System often involves
working with highly volatile individuals and groups often undergoing some sort
of crisis. Working in high risk situations is very much part of the work and this
requires working within very clear and prescribed boundaries processes and
procedures and risk identification, assessments and mitigation was part of our
5
day to day planning activity. In all work activities personal safety of workers, the
community as well as the protection of children were factors that always held top
priority and had to be considered at all time.

Summaryof PastExperienceand Recent Experience
As you can see from my Resume I have been involved in Juvenile Justice (JJ) for 25
years and have worked in most places across WA at one time or another. My
involvement in Community Based JJ Services is extensive and I have been involved
in most aspect of JJ including:
 Development and Implementation Prevention and Diversion programmes
 Development and Implementation of programmes working with and managing
the Most Serious Offenders in the State.
 Most of my work has in some way involved offering professional support to
young people their families, victims of crime, the Courts and other
Government and non-government agencies, either directly or indirectly as a
Supervisor and Manager.
 I have also had a great deal of experience in the implementation and
development of Policies, Procedures and Legislation in relation to Young
People and Crime.
 As a Supervisor and Manager I have also been involved in the implementation
and development of OHS related Policies and Procedures.
 In the various roles that I have held I have also had extensive experience in the
professional supervision and development of other staff members
8
Although I have in my working life made a huge personal investment and
commitment to the Juvenile Justice Field as is clearly evident, I have in the past 4
years made a career change in the direction of OHS. This decision is as a result of a
readjustment and reassessing of my life goals and interests and I would be more than
happy to discuss them further at an interview.
As I have found in the past 4 years, my training, skills and experience have been
easily transferable to my new career, although it has also involved a very significant
learning curve. This learning curve began with my enrolment to complete my
Certificate IV OHS with the NSW TAFE. This was closely followed by my
employment as a Health, Safety and Environment Advisor with my current Employer
ENERFLEX. More recently I successfully completed my Diploma in OHS and as
indicated above I have also completed a number of OHS related training courses.
My experience in the past 4 years has served to confirm that a BEHAVIOURAL
APPROACH to HSSE adds a great deal of value to the whole area. As a Human
Behaviour Specialist I am easily able to apply this approach to my day to day work
and provide a knowledge base for my colleagues and employer. My experience and
training in Human Behavioural Interventions gives me the tools and expertise not only
to get my message across but also to facilitate participation and to interact effectively
and positively with all people at all levels.
I believe I have become a very effective and knowledgeable I my chosen field of
HSSE. This may be partly illustrated by the fact that The GORGON DOMGAS
METERING STATION PROJECT which I was involved with from start to finish as
Principle Site HSSE Advisor, finished up with one of the best Safety Records, if not
the best, of the Chevron Gorgon Project as a whole. An Achievement I am personally
very proud of.
In my recent work assignment at the Abu Tubul Gas Plant in Oman we surpassed the
5 million man hours LTI Free milestone. Also working in Oman in a multi-cultural an
international environment was an extremely valuable and rewarding experience and as
a result I have achieved a great deal of professional and personal growth.
As a personal note I acknowledge that may age may be considered a disadvantage
by some recruiters when competing with other younger professionals for positions.
I however, reassure you that many of those negative stereotypical assumptions
about older people are not substantiated, in my case anyway. For instance, I am
very fit and healthy, not only do I still surf on a regular basis I train at the gym
regularly I also enjoy walking, cycling and jogging on a regular basis. Change and
new technology does not intimidate or scare me in the slightest in fact I embrace it
and seek it out myself. Hence, my mid-life careers change. I enjoy learning new
things and also sharing my experience and knowledge and remain highly motivated
to Work, Learn and Share. Moreover, I have no intention of retiring in the
foreseeable future.
In respect to my personal situation, I have a grown up family (5 children) that I
remain deeply committed to and involved with but I remain very flexible in terms of
where and how I work. I do not have to be in any specific place or situation and am
9
not tied down geographically and I love to travel and see new places. In short the
FIFO lifestyle suits me perfectly.
Please accept my resume for your consideration.

  • 8. 8 Although I have in my working life made a huge personal investment and commitment to the Juvenile Justice Field as is clearly evident, I have in the past 4 years made a career change in the direction of OHS. This decision is as a result of a readjustment and reassessing of my life goals and interests and I would be more than happy to discuss them further at an interview. As I have found in the past 4 years, my training, skills and experience have been easily transferable to my new career, although it has also involved a very significant learning curve. This learning curve began with my enrolment to complete my Certificate IV OHS with the NSW TAFE. This was closely followed by my employment as a Health, Safety and Environment Advisor with my current Employer ENERFLEX. More recently I successfully completed my Diploma in OHS and as indicated above I have also completed a number of OHS related training courses. My experience in the past 4 years has served to confirm that a BEHAVIOURAL APPROACH to HSSE adds a great deal of value to the whole area. As a Human Behaviour Specialist I am easily able to apply this approach to my day to day work and provide a knowledge base for my colleagues and employer. My experience and training in Human Behavioural Interventions gives me the tools and expertise not only to get my message across but also to facilitate participation and to interact effectively and positively with all people at all levels. I believe I have become a very effective and knowledgeable I my chosen field of HSSE. This may be partly illustrated by the fact that The GORGON DOMGAS METERING STATION PROJECT which I was involved with from start to finish as Principle Site HSSE Advisor, finished up with one of the best Safety Records, if not the best, of the Chevron Gorgon Project as a whole. An Achievement I am personally very proud of. In my recent work assignment at the Abu Tubul Gas Plant in Oman we surpassed the 5 million man hours LTI Free milestone. Also working in Oman in a multi-cultural an international environment was an extremely valuable and rewarding experience and as a result I have achieved a great deal of professional and personal growth. As a personal note I acknowledge that may age may be considered a disadvantage by some recruiters when competing with other younger professionals for positions. I however, reassure you that many of those negative stereotypical assumptions about older people are not substantiated, in my case anyway. For instance, I am very fit and healthy, not only do I still surf on a regular basis I train at the gym regularly I also enjoy walking, cycling and jogging on a regular basis. Change and new technology does not intimidate or scare me in the slightest in fact I embrace it and seek it out myself. Hence, my mid-life careers change. I enjoy learning new things and also sharing my experience and knowledge and remain highly motivated to Work, Learn and Share. Moreover, I have no intention of retiring in the foreseeable future. In respect to my personal situation, I have a grown up family (5 children) that I remain deeply committed to and involved with but I remain very flexible in terms of where and how I work. I do not have to be in any specific place or situation and am
