Research Interests: Materials Science, particularly for solar energy applications; superlattices and multiple band gap materials for
applications to novelopto-electronic devices; atomic force and scanning tunneling microscopy, biological physics,carbon
nanotube thin films, cellulose fibers and space sciences.
Research Experience:
2003-present Conducting research in the Thin films and Microscopy Laboratory on carbon nanotube thin films and cellulose
fibers in collaboration with the division of Biotechnology. Undergraduate students are an integral part of all
research projects.
2001-2003 Atomic Force Microscopy In A Reduced Gravity, Vibration Intensive Environment. This was an undergraduate
student project designed to test the performance of an Atomic Force Microscope in a reduced gravity, n oisy
environment. It was conducted through the Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program (RGSFOP).
The project flew on NASA’s KC-135 aircraft in Aug.2001.
1998-present Established new Thin Films and Microscopy Laboratory at SFASU. Research areas include electrodeposition of
semiconductive thin films, scanning probe microscopy and scanning electron microscopy of electrodeposited
thin films and self assembled molecular thin films, carbon nanotubes and cellulose fibers.
June 1998 Visiting Scientist, NASA Glenn (formerly Lewis) Research Center. Electrodeposited Cu(In,Ga)Se2
polycrystalline thin films characterized by X-ray diffraction and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy.
1996-1998 Genotoxicology & Radiation Experiment (G743): Collaborated with other researchers and institutions on a
payload project to investigate toxicological effects of space radiation on genomic DNA samples. Participating
institutions included Broward Community College, Brevard Community College, Texas A&M University &
University of Miami. Successfully flew on the STS-91 Space Shuttle Discovery mission on June 02, 1998.
1995-1998 Visiting Scientist. Harris Semiconductor Microanalytical Laboratory, Palm Bay, FL. Performed Energy
Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), SEM imaging and ion beam Auger spectroscopy ofelectrodeposited thin films.
1994, 1995 (Summer)-Visiting Scientist, Oak Ridge National Laboratories (ORNL), Oak Ridge, TN. Scanning Probe
Microscopy characterization of electrodeposited Multilayer thin films synthesized at the Florida Tech
Nanofabrication Laboratory.
1993 Graduate Research, Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, FL. Performed calibration of (PZT) piezo-
electric tube using Michelson Interferometer. This PZT tube was used as an STM scannerfor my masters thesis
project at Florida Tech.
Personally Owned Research Equipment: Keithley 2400 Source/Measure Unit, Buehler Ecomet IV metallurgical polishing
systemwith controlled force power head, STM head (D.I. Nanoscope II) and adapterbase, Lindberg temp erature controlled tube
furnace, VWR Ultrasonic Cleaner, Denver Instruments M-220 microbalance, temperature controlled water chiller.
Programming/Software: Programming Languages include Basic, Qbasic, Pascal, C, C++, Fortran, Visual Fortran, Assembly and
Debug. Software includes: Most Windows applications software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Familiar with Lab-View.

Research Experience: 2003-present Conducting research in the Thin films and Microscopy Laboratory on carbon nanotube thin films and cellulose fibers in collaboration with the division of Biotechnology. Undergraduate students are an integral part of all research projects. 2001-2003 Atomic Force Microscopy In A Reduced Gravity, Vibration Intensive Environment. This was an undergraduate student project designed to test the performance of an Atomic Force Microscope in a reduced gravity, n oisy environment. It was conducted through the Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program (RGSFOP). The project flew on NASA’s KC-135 aircraft in Aug.2001. 1998-present Established new Thin Films and Microscopy Laboratory at SFASU. Research areas include electrodeposition of semiconductive thin films, scanning probe microscopy and scanning electron microscopy of electrodeposited thin films and self assembled molecular thin films, carbon nanotubes and cellulose fibers. June 1998 Visiting Scientist, NASA Glenn (formerly Lewis) Research Center. Electrodeposited Cu(In,Ga)Se2 polycrystalline thin films characterized by X-ray diffraction and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy. 1996-1998 Genotoxicology & Radiation Experiment (G743): Collaborated with other researchers and institutions on a payload project to investigate toxicological effects of space radiation on genomic DNA samples. Participating institutions included Broward Community College, Brevard Community College, Texas A&M University & University of Miami. Successfully flew on the STS-91 Space Shuttle Discovery mission on June 02, 1998.

Performed calibration of (PZT) piezo- electric tube using Michelson Interferometer. This PZT tube was used as an STM scannerfor my masters thesis project at Florida Tech.
