This Old Library: How to Revamp, Reimagine and Revitalize Your Library Diana Rendina
Many of us work in school libraries that were built in the 20th century. Our collections are a hodge-podge of different collection development strategies (or lack thereof) over the decades. Whether you’re taking over a new-to-you library program or you’ve been at your school for years, there are probably neglected spaces you would like to spruce up, programs you would like to create and new books that need to be added. It can be overwhelming to try to figure out where to get started. In this session, you’ll learn strategies for tackling that weeding project, improving usability in your space, changing up your furniture, building collaboration with teachers and more. No matter your grade level, years of experience or the age of your library space, you will come away from this session excited to reimagine your library.

Care and Feeding of a Vibrant Library CollectionDiana Rendina
Depending on the age of your library, your collection is likely a mixture of different collection development strategies (or lack thereof) that have been used over the years. For most of us, our libraries could use a great deal of care and feeding to develop them into the vibrant, exciting collections that will have our students clamoring to read more. But it can be so overwhelming to figure out where to start. In this session, we’ll talk about developing weeding strategies and creating a collection development plan that will slowly but surely bring your collection up to speed. We’ll talk about the important of diverse books, graphic novels as well as other current topics like genrefication. Come to this session and get ideas and strategies that will help you tend to your library collection and make it amazing.

Stephanie Urban

To Whom it May Concern,
My name is Stephanie Urban. I started my own small business, Little Lion Designs, in October of 2009 after a mass layoff
at my previous company. While unemployed, I decided to take some time and follow a dream I’ve had for a long time. That
dream was to successfully work for myself, creating fabric collage art for nurseries, weddings, birthdays and the like. After
suffering the loss of my daughter to a congenital heart defect, I was given the inspiration and time to follow that dream.
Named after my daughter’s nickname, Little Lion Designs was then born. Through my work, I am able to spread awareness
and raise funding for research of congenital heart defects while providing beautiful artwork for happy customers. I also
continue to do design work as a freelance artist and have welcomed some really exciting projects, during this time.
Prior to Little Lion Designs, I was an Art Director at Advanstar Communications for two B2B magazines for five
years. While employed at Advanstar, I single-handedly revamped both of those magazines (samples to follow) from the
ground up, taking tired old trade magazines and giving them the “wow” factor they deserved. Before that, I worked in
an advertising agency, which gave me a strong design background filled with variety from several well-known clients,
including Kendal Motor Oil, Kumho Tires, Moen and White Diamonds Perfume. I’ve designed and produced many pieces
in that time for print (collateral, POP, image, packaging, etc.), and a few for web (base art for clients and our company’s
website). I take pride in every project I get my hands on, stretching and expanding my knowledge and control of design
with each piece, as I attempt to reach outside of the box. Consistent and devoted to my work, I’ve helped boost sales
and continuity of image with the clients I’ve been lucky enough to work with. I take extreme pride in my work.
My goals are simple, to work doing what I love and to love my work. I believe each day that I do not learn something
to be a waste. I look forward to growing creatively daily and seeing what comes out of my hands next. I take a lot of pride
in my work and in my positive working environment. Attached are my resume and samples. I hope you enjoy. Thank you for
taking the time to review my information. Have a great day.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Urban
