Objective: To apply my knowledge, experience and leadership skills with Facilities
Management in order to make sustainable, environmental facility improvements
for the well being of the people who interact with the landscape on a daily basis.
Summary: 1989 – 2016 University of North Texas, Denton Texas
Facilities Manager for Grounds, Waste Management and Recycling
 Scheduled, managed and cared for 450+ acres of turfgrass, 2500 trees, 16 acres of
landscape beds, 115 irrigation systems and sidewalks on a very busy campus.
 Coordinated and managed 35 acres of sports fields to NCAA standards.
 Concentrated on using sustainable, natural/organic products in order to create a
healthy balanced environment for 30,000+ campus visitors.
 Designed flowing, inventive landscapes with native plants and color.
 Co-authored a complete set of landscape, irrigation and turfgrass specifications for
all campus construction plans and projects.
 Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and inspecting the work of 57 full time
employees through direct input to 4 supervisors in all facets of their work.
 Reviewed and approved employee evaluations and disciplinary measures.
 Developed and applied staff safety protocols and safe equipment use.
 Created a tree care program for the campus and became one of the first 29 schools
to become accredited as a Tree Campus USA through the Arborday Foundation and
Texas Forest Service. This has been maintained for the last 8 years.
 Wrote a ‘Snow Plan’ for UNT detailing processes for staff to reopen the university as
soon as possible and reviewed both performance and plan annually.
 Set up emergency response teams for storm related inspection and cleanup
processes.
 In 1991, created the campus wide recycling program for 30,000+ campus users.
 Created, managed and scheduled the campus solid waste collection system
featuring Big Belly compactors and Wabash Valley receptacles.
 With help of the GPS/GIS department, created the following inventories: acreage
broken down by use, landscape beds and plants, irrigation systems, trees, tree
dedications, waste receptacles, and bench/swing/table locations.
 Interacted and coordinated grounds maintenance related work with all phases of
University life including maintenance shops (plumbers, electricians, structural),
campus construction, athletics, purchasing agents, and all student and faculty
activities.
 Regularly reviewed all new/upcoming construction projects to insure they met our
specified landscape guidelines, specifications and plans.
 Responsible for M&O and payroll budgets well in excess of $1.5 million.

 Excellent troubleshooting skills for any variety of issues.

 Proficient in reviewing, evaluating, interpreting and applying
landscape/irrigation/site details shown on blueprints for a variety of applications.
 Very experienced with installation practices of landscapes, hardscapes and
irrigation systems.
 Proficient in the operation of a variety of grounds equipment from trucks/trailers,
dump trucks, tractors, Bobcat skid steer, backhoe, trackhoe, sprayers, mowers and
hand tools.
 Computer: MS Word, excel, email and effective internet research for applicable job
information.
 Excellent in spotting and recording general building and site issues needing repair.
 Experienced in setting site and drainage grades.
 Have professionally built many landscape walls including railroad tie, dry stack stone
and Pavestone products.
